Re: Fax vulnerability in HP all-in-one printers
One of my large medical accounts contacted me about this one. They were totally freaked out over this potential threat even though they had no machines in their fleet with the vulnerability. Meanwhile you could walk to almost any fax machine in any of their locations and grab patient info from the fax trays.

Re: A Few Copier Vignettes from the Late Eighties & Nineties
Art, You and I are from similar professional backgrounds and times. We started in 1980 selling Sharp and Juki typewriters. Everything sold near MSRP. Then the fax boom came and we caught that wave perfectly. We sold Ricoh thermal faxes for full list ($2995.00). The only issue was cash flow; we sold them faster than we could order and purchase them. Copier Maintenance agreements went from .022 up to .035 and did not include drums, developer, toner, fuser rollers or lamps! Also, like your...

Yup we have the same issues with cash flow. It was a great problem to have. The Hunt for Red October was a great book, even found the movie awesome too! Ty for the comment, we should connect for lunch one day

A few questions for the Canon experts! Can this system only scan to google docs? Can you get the bookletmaker on the 4225?

Hey Art, You can scan to Google Docs (now called Google Drive), Microsoft Exchange, Email, Shared Network, as per a regular imageRUNNER ADVANCE unit. Yes, you can get the booklet finisher on a 4225.

You can scan to Mailboxes (like Ricoh's document server, but better) and an Advanced Box as well (similar to dropbox). Anything else requires additional software.

How is scanning the document server pn the Canon better than the Ricoh?

Re: Canon U.S.A.'s imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4200 Series Brings Next Generation Platform to Midrange Black-and-White MFP Segment
From the Ricoh's I've played around with, you can see all of the file names in the document server, but require authentication to print/send the file. Canon's units can have up to 100 mailboxes that can be individually named. Files are then securely stored inside each mailbox so that non-authenticated users cannot see what's inside someone else's mailbox.

Re: MP C6004SP & Fax Routing to Folder
The short answer is yes. It would have to be initiated by someone at the point of failure. I would teach someone there how to change things in the event that the server goes down with the intent of switching things back once the server is back on line. The incoming fax can either go to the Fax Document Server or there is such a thing as "Locked Fax". Like Locked Print, it stores the incoming fax in the copier harddrive until an authorized code is entered to release them. Don't ask me how to...

Re: Fax Workflow with HIPAA
is there any type of link or article that you can refer me to? I mean, how do I prove that to an attorney?

Re: Fax Workflow with HIPAA
The real question is do they care. Try going to the OmTool AccuRoute site. There you will see Omtool's justification for their software using HIPPA compliance. It refers to hospitals but the concept is the same. You might even get your attorneys to consider OmTool AccuRoute to automatically route the incoming faxes based on their workflow.

A Few Copier Vignettes from the Late Eighties & Nineties
The picture in the header showed our demo room back in either 1989 or 1990, might have even been 1991. As you can see by the photo Atlantic Office Systems (the first one in NJ) was Authorized for Adler Royal, Brother, and Tele VaxaFax (facsimile). Sometime later Adler Royal was purchased by Mita and the Adler Royal brand was changed to Copystar. I thoroughly hated the name Copystar because there was no brand recognition, at least with Adler Royal, our clients knew about Royal typewriters. We...

Fax vulnerability in HP all-in-one printers
Fax vulnerability in HP all-in-one printers August 22, 2018 Ricoh Company Ltd. A vulnerability was recently disclosed by Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. wherein the fax protocol was exploited on a Hewlett Packard all-in-one printer to take control of the device by sending a crafted fax via telephone line and then gain access to the connected network. Below is probably one of the most mis-understood printers (well not actually a printer) of our time. The Seri Print 25 was a really cool in-line attachment to the Ricoh duplicators. You would replace the Ricoh ink with Seri Ink, and then you'd be able to print on any gloss coatings. The Seri printer used a UV light to cure the ink on the gloss coat. Alas the Seri is no more and Ricoh is just about out of the duplicator industry now. Enjoy the threads from ten years ago this week! Konica...

Re: This History of the Fax Machine According to Art
Loved the reflection on the history of fax. Although this was a relatively low residual product it offered a new way to get in the door. In the 80's, I would follow the fed ex delivery driver who often was delivering some printed pages (agenda's, schedules, documents) that needed to be there next day or sooner. It was an ear opener when you tell them you can them there next minute without the $12.00 fedex charge. Using afterhours timing for reducing long distance charges helped separate...
