The typical w3601 user doesn't need a robust software package to do small/medium jobs or walkup copying. The post script drivers work fine for all of my users. Tough sell now, forget about making any money.

Looks good. I beat Kip on price and kept a good commission in it for myself. Should be a done deal by the end of the week.

I haven't sold one since they raised the price and included plotworks. Has anyone done a street price comparison with the W3601, the PLotwave 350 and the KIP7100? Or can anyone report on what a recent OCE plotwave 350 or KIP 7100 sold for with a single roll feeder, scan and print?

I just got this from one web site for the KIP7100 with a dual roll feeder. I believe our MSRP is $2,000 or so higher (don't have my book on me).

Re: Plotworks batch printing issue (help)

Art, Sounds like you have an old school customer here. I have around 450 large format digital printers in the field 95% of which use AutoCAD and not one of them batch print dwg. files. What version of AutoCAD does he have? The reason I ask is most of the newer versions allow you to batch publish to pdf or dwf.

Art, This is very common in large format especially if the customer is creating the pdf’s in AutoCAD. Unfortunately I do not know the Plotworks software that well. I know that KIP has a transparency setting you can turn on that corrects the issue. Kip also has a free software on their website called KIP switch, this will flatten the print allowing it to print properly. Doesn’t, PLP offer support on this issue? Greg

That's what I was told by my service engineer, he stated it was because of the way the .pdf was created with layers. I'm no expert on this, that's why I reached out to everyone on the forums.

Open it photoshop and do a save as and save it as a pdf. I've also had limited success doing this procedure with eCopy to resolve the issue. This issue has been going on since the beginning of wide format printing. These un-flattend pdfs explode into an enormous data stream when you attempt to print them. Its not your fault or the machine you sold. One other thing to try with these problem pdfs is to print them using the webPrint tool built into the plotter.....I bet they will just work when...

Re: Plotworks Issues?

GR81 ·
Yes, all CAD software has the ability to flatten the pdf when published. However you would be amazed at how many engineers and architect do not know how to use their own software. At least once a week we are showing one of our customers how to print with AutoCAD, Soft plan, Revit, or any of the others. Also a lot of it is out of your hands as many of these print are posted on websites to be downloaded and it is left up to the downloader to flatten the pdf.

It's a problem with how the person who created the PDF created it. Think of a drawing in autocad as layer upon layer of transparency material......a drawing could be 20 layers thick with each layer having pieces of the drawing. Its up to the person saving it to flatten all those layers into a single sheet image so it can be easily viewed and...

Art- Why not browse over to the manufacturer's website for more features / benefits? I can tell you this: when we recently completed our first installation of Plotworks on a 3406WD, we needed technical assistance for updates and some deployment advice. The technical support offered to us from PLP was far superior to that of most vendors . Also, we were replacing an old Oce and the client's comment was that PlotWorks was the same (upgraded version) of Reprodesk. This is a good thing in my...

Hey, this really helps. I was on Ricohs AF league and there is one short ppt presentation that really doesn't tell you much. I've learned over the years that P4P members can give additional insight like you have with the OCE repro and that a user is plotting to hot folders. So, I guess this raises another question, are you stating that by printing to hot folders you can already have the specific paper sizes and reproduction ratios pre-set, thus all they have to do is send the print job to...

Excellent analysys Art, I appreciate your taking the time to let us know the latest on this fiasco. It makes sense why they did it now that you explained it so well, but I would wager it will bite them later when sales plummet. I kind of gave up selling wide format due to getting kicked by Oce a few times and then the price increase. I did sell a Savin 3406 before the software mandate and it replaced a 2404 with Ratio that they got tired of paying for updates. They do not need the benefits...

I totally agree with you on this one. As of this morning I am seeing the new CW2200 as it is being setup, I am thinking, is this the best that Ricoh can come up with? In my opinion it will only cheapen the Ricoh name with this unit that looks like it is several different pieces that are now married together to create this unit. As you stated, Ricoh made decisions without consulting any of the Rep's that are actual in the field listening to the end user. I started selling Ricoh's wide format...

Despite wide format volumes in the AEC world dropping the market still expects a certain level of job submission capability. It doesn't have to be at the level of PLP or ReproDesk, but I would hate to be going into a demo either: a) Justifying charging a significant % of the capital cost for something Xerox (AccXES), Océ (OPS) and others give away; or b) Trying to convince the customer he doesn't need job submission. I wrote a job submission tool (ReproRog.NET) some years ago and keep it up...
