Re: A Few Copier Vignettes from the Late Eighties & Nineties

George KRebs ·
Art, You and I are from similar professional backgrounds and times. We started in 1980 selling Sharp and Juki typewriters. Everything sold near MSRP. Then the fax boom came and we caught that wave perfectly. We sold Ricoh thermal faxes for full list ($2995.00). The only issue was cash flow; we sold them faster than we could order and purchase them. Copier Maintenance agreements went from .022 up to .035 and did not include drums, developer, toner, fuser rollers or lamps! Also, like your...

Yup we have the same issues with cash flow. It was a great problem to have. The Hunt for Red October was a great book, even found the movie awesome too! Ty for the comment, we should connect for lunch one day

Ten Copier & MFP Proposals for March 2015

Art Post ·
Thanks to the help from a few Print4Pay Hotel members, we're able to give our members access to some of the copier & MFP quotes that were presented in March of 2015. I had a great chuckle at some of the Sharp proposals. One, was the base quarterly charge of $30 per quarter for 3,000 pages. Overages were then billed at .01 for black. It's like WTF? It's only $120 for the year, just bill the annual cost!!You'll save the customer money and time...

Kyocera to assume Copystar brand as part of ambitious long-term marketing strategy

Art Post ·
Fairfield, NJ – Kyocera Document Solutions America, Inc. wishes to announce that, as of June 30th, 2023, Copystar will be replaced by the Kyocera brand. Until now the Copystar brand has been a sales division selling Kyocera-made devices under the Copystar name, this strategic decision demonstrates the organization’s ambition to combat uncertainty in the business landscape by further strengthening its brand. It also represents the next step of the long-term strategy that was unveiled as part...

Would it be safe to assume that all Copystar dealers will now be authorized for Kyocera? I'm sure this is not those on both sides of this. I haven't been a Copystar dealer for 25 years, however Copystar was a great option for those that wanted to start their own dealership. No quotas, buy as you need presented opportunities. With both Muratec and Copystar gone so goes the opportunity for those that want to get into the business with an Authorized dealership. Sorry to hear this as another...

I can't imagine even the Kyocera dealers are sad about this one. Its just like Ricoh & Savin/Lanier. It's been irrelevant for nearly a decade. As soon as you could Google "Kyocera vs Copystar" or "Ricoh vs Lanier" the different names became a waste of marketing dollars.

A Few Copier Vingettes from the Eighties and Nineties

Art Post ·
The picture in the header depicted our demo room, likely taken in either 1989, 1990, or possibly 1991. As evident from the photo, Atlantic Office Systems (the first one in NJ) was authorized for Adler Royal, Brother, and Tele VaxaFax (facsimile). Later, Adler Royal was acquired by Mita, and the brand changed to Copystar. I strongly disliked the name Copystar because it lacked brand recognition; at least with Adler Royal, our clients were familiar with Royal typewriters. Small Dealer We were...
