Running Perforated paper on a Ricoh MPC4500

I have an odd issue and was wondering if anyone could help.
My customer is running 60lb perforated paper through the bypass tray on a Ricoh MPC4500 and we are getting smudges on the left side of the copy.
They are running meal cards for students.
The machine is set to thick 3 and I know we are not out of spec for the weight. Could the issue be with the perforated paper itself? Is there another setting that will work better such as OHP mode? Any help is much appreciated.
