Las Vegas, NV, May 5, 2004 – Ricoh Corporation, the leading provider of digital office equipment, today introduced GlobalScan frameworks for Documentum and Interwoven Worksite for use with existing Ricoh Aficio Multifunctional Products (MFPs).

Today, more than 80 percent of generated business documents exist in unstructured information such as spreadsheets, presentations, e-mails, photographs, drawings, etc. Accessing that information is quite often a complex and tedious task. By enabling existing Ricoh MFPs to be equipped with GlobalScan Server Software, Ricoh has turned copiers into versatile network scanning devices, helping control unstructured information.

“One of the keys to effective enterprise content management is providing an easy method for incorporating the numerous important documents received on a daily basis,” said Hede Nonaka, vice president of marketing for Ricoh Corporation. “With the addition of GlobalScan frameworks to Ricoh’s MFPs, combined with Documentum and Interwoven Worksite, Ricoh is pleased to have developed a solution that transforms a time-consuming process into one that increases productivity—all within one compact, cost-effective unit.”

Using Ricoh’s Aficio MFP combined with GlobalScan Sever software and the framework to Documentum, paper-based documents can be scanned for delivery to the Documentum doc-base in a matter of seconds—with a process as simple as making a photocopy. The Documentum enterprise content management platform provides a universal repository

capable of storing and managing all content types, including documents, scanned images, Web pages, XML, rich media, records, engineering drawings and many others.

By combining the power of Ricoh MFPs, GlobalScan and the Interwoven WorkSite frameworks, users can convert paper documents into a variety of file formats including PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint. They can then distribute electronic files directly to worksite databases—all with a single scan.

A powerful, yet easy to use network scanning solution, GlobalScan integrates seamlessly with any existing e-mail infrastructure and combines e-mail functionality with an accessible copier platform, which significantly improves user productivity and offers robust security for organizations managing content within and beyond offices and cities—nationally and internationally. Fully isolated environments enforce ethical walls and enable hosting of multiple divisions and/or companies.
