Konica introduces 8020/8031 color devices
New Digital Color Devices Offer High Speed and High Productivity at an Affordable Price
WINDSOR, Conn. – January 22, 2003 – Konica Business Technologies, Inc. (Konica), the innovation leader in digital imaging solutions and a subsidiary of Konica Corporation, today introduced two new mid-range color multifunctional products (MFPs) — the Konica 8020 and 8031 Color Imaging Systems. Featuring copy and print speeds from 20 to 31 pages per minute (ppm) in color and B&W, the 8020 and 8031 are the first Konica color products to offer Simitri™ Color Polymerized Toner, developed and manufactured exclusively by Konica. With the addition of key features such as scan-once, print-many LED technology, a new saddle-stitch booklet finisher with punch unit, and enhanced job management functionality, the Konica 8020/8031 are affordable options for corporate workgroups and graphic professionals who require high speed and high productivity in a color MFP solution.
Replacing the 7915 and 7920, both the 8020 and 8031 offer 600 x 600 dpi copy resolution and up to 600 x 1800 dpi print resolution; standard electronic sort in both copy and print mode; scan-to-email, scan-to-FTP and Internet fax capabilities; and an optional hard drive for job storage. With their comprehensive functionality and low price, these new devices are ideally suited for corporate and graphic users serving a variety of industries — from education and financial services to manufacturing and advertising — who need to create marketing materials, flyers, direct mail pieces, financial reports, graphs, charts, variable data printing (VDP), CAD/CAM drawings, user and technical manuals, etc., on a continual basis.
With the 8020/8031's LED technology and Simitri Color Polymerized Toner, achieving fast, accurate color output has never been easier. The four-drum, four-developer LED technology system applies four colors in one pass with a straight paper-path design that supports up to 12" x 18" copying and printing on up to 140-lb. index paper via the bypass tray and universal cassette. The 8020/8031 deliver industry-leading consistent, high quality output with Konica's breakthrough Simitri Color Polymerized Toner, which maintains the uniformity of the toner particles to produce clean, crisp 600 x 600 dpi resolution with an offset-like look.
In addition, superior color quality is achieved with the 8020/8031's 256 gradations of color per pixel and fine-edge enhancement technology (FEET™) that smoothes and emphasizes text edges for sharper, cleaner text. Other features such as automatic calibration and color selection for mixed-copy originals, instantaneously detect for color and B&W pages, providing for increased quality control.
Delivering a user-friendly, Section 508 compliant touch screen and a flexible modular design, the 8020/8031 are easy to use and easy to integrate into the corporate color and short-run production printing environments. The large touch screen, with a tilt keypad and font display enlargement, guides users step-by-step through the copy process. The modular design allows for an extensive list of options, including a duplexing document feeder, 2,500-sheet large capacity tray, two additional 500-sheet paper trays, a corner-stapler finisher, and a saddle-stitch booklet finisher with a two and/or three-hole punch unit.
"The new 8020/8031 represent not only an enhancement to Konica's color product line but also a significant enhancement to the industry's color market segments, especially in terms of speed, quality and affordability," said William H. Brewster, vice president, marketing, Konica Business Technologies, Inc "Price-sensitive customers who are looking for high speed and high productivity in a mid-range, color MFP solution can stop searching. The 8020/8031 are superior competitive options."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KONICA EXPANDS ITS COLOR IMAGING LINE-UP WITH THE KONICA 7820 AND 7830 MID-RANGE COLOR PRINTERS
Ideal for Workgroups and Departmental Use, Konica's New Digital Color Printers Boast High-Speed and Superb Image Quality
WINDSOR, Conn. — January 22, 2003 — Konica Business Technologies, Inc. (Konica), the innovation leader in digital imaging solutions and a subsidiary of Konica Corporation, today introduced two new color imaging systems — the 7820 and 7830 series digital printers. Further expanding Konica's family of color products, the 7820 and 7830 Color Imaging Systems deliver impressive print speeds of 20 and 30 pages per minute (ppm) in color, and 24 and 37ppm in B&W, respectively. Built with advanced LED technology, the 7820 and 7830 are productivity printers, providing superb image quality, vibrant and accurate color output, and reliable high-speed operation to the small workgroup and departmental environments.
Ideal replacements for B&W printers or slower laser-based color printers, the Konica digital printers make time and cost savings possible by providing the option of bringing short-run color print jobs in-house. Fast and reliable, the 7820 and 7830 are available with up to 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution. Large format printing capabilities enable the new printers to produce high quality prints of complex documents such as engineering drawings, and signage and banners on up to 12" x 47.24" stock. The printers' media handling capabilities enable precise output of presentations, spreadsheets, transparencies, labels and forms. High print speeds, fast first print times, and flexible network connectivity for on-demand printing make the 7820 and 7830 strong contributors to office productivity and workflow.
"Konica's introduction of the faster and more flexible 7820 and 7830 systems strengthens our position in the rapidly evolving color printing market, and at the same time further defines our leadership in providing solutions to a diverse customer base, from large print shops to the small office," said William H. Brewster, vice president, marketing, Konica Business Technologies, Inc. "Competitive price points, coupled with superior image quality and substantial standard features like duplexing and industry-leading image resolution, make these machines strong contenders in a growing marketplace."
Replacing Konica's popular 7812 and 7821 Color Imaging Systems, the 7820 and 7830 generate quick, precise color printing with the incorporation of advanced single-pass color® digital technology, utilizing four in-line digital LED printheads and image drums to speed the page through and apply four colors in a single pass. New auto color balancing technology minimizes user maintenance by self-diagnosing the printheads and consumables usage on a periodic basis — for instance, when the toner has been changed or after a certain number of prints — and self-adjusting the settings for continued optimal output without the need to print color scales or test sheets. Additionally, the 7820 and 7830 offer increased engine performance with powerful 450 MHz and 600 MHz processors, new standard job accounting software, and improved monthly page volumes of up to 100,000 pages for the 7820 and 150,000 pages for the 7830.
In addition, enhanced duplexing capabilities — standard on the 7820dxn and 7830dxn models — reduce paper and consumables use, while lowering per-page print costs. Both models also provide superior paper handling, with 630/650-sheet standard and 1,690/2,850-sheet maximum paper capacity, and the ability to support a wide variety of stock right out of the box. Both the 7820 and 7830 incorporate improved auto media detect technology, eliminating the need for users to navigate multiple print management windows at the desktop by automatically recognizing available paper stock and adjusting print speeds as needed for each individual print job.
Highlighted 7820/7830 Features
· Print speeds of 20ppm color and 24ppm B&W for the 7820 series
· Print speeds of 30ppm color and 37ppm B&W for the 7830 series
· Available with duplex printing capability (dxn models)
· Single-pass color® LED digital technology
