In Sales 101 we all learned that the first person in a sale has a high chance of winning.  They get to set the requirements.  They get to develop trust.  The reps that come in later usually just get to give a competitive quote. The challenge is that more buyers are doing research online BEFORE they contact a sales rep.  
 
A recent CEB study of 1,600 business decision makers revealed that buyers are now ON AVERAGE 57% of the way through the buying process BEFORE they contact a sales rep.

How do you navigate this new buying trend?  Being first into the sale may not always involve your sales rep.  Instead, it requires becoming a helpful advisor when the potential client is doing online research.  This means thinking about marketing in a totally different way.
