With Art's Ricoh post it got me thinking about the things I'd love to see from canon in 2017. 1 - put the directs on the same pricing the dealers have. I get disgusted by the pricing I see from CSA down the street. Don't claim how important the dealers are to the company while letting the direct whore the product out to keep the factory running. 2 - Open up the Oce wide format to all dealers without the need to deal with the Oce people trying to become a dealer. Art, You maybe missing the point. You can still build all the relationships you want but I guarantee not all will buy based on you have a quota to meet. Some may oblige but usually comes at sacrificing profit. You may be the exception.

Picking up a signed order in the morning for a Canon color with hole punch and staple, from an Amish farmer-printer. Best two parts of the qualification process was having to run samples of a digital plate to run his offset presses and ensuring the power was in spec to be run off of his diesel generator/alternator set up. I am seeing more of that with wide format recently and I am not sure why. Most of what I have seen has been where they are running the same volume as before but they just don't want to have a machine anymore so they outsource it and it doesn't seem to matter if the machine was leased to them for a $1 a month they still wouldn't do it.

Stapling isn't an issue for me but I've had two of my medical clients turn their nose up at the new model because of the lack of a 1-bin when their 5210sf machines in their fleet have it. For now I can still get the old model but not likely much longer.

Czech, I love the 4580. I have one in the field that is running 10k or so a month and rarely has any issues. I believe just after a year they have over 150k on it. I was going to go that route but they only budget about 2500 for a machine in the new properties and I obviously try to keep as much margin in it as possible. That's what made the 5935 so great. 800 cost and selling for 2500.00. I have talked to them about canon and some other machines but they used the Samsung so long they won't

December is such a toss up. I have had fantastic decembers and horrible decembers. Fantastic are the ones that call me New Year's Eve about 5:00 and say I'll sign the order of you come and get it today so I can take advantage of the tax benefits. I've had a customer call me to discuss a deal at 10:00pm on New Year's Eve to finalize and send him the paperwork. Not sure if this helps, but I have an M4580FX in the field and it works very well. Zero service issues in 2 years, customer is doing about 3000 per month. Instead of the M4080, what about the Canon IR 1435iF? They're not pretty, but they have a great engine and very well priced.

The HP deal worries me but what we decided was we would sell as many as we could until the situation changed. We have sold a ton of them lately but still Canon is our main line we sell.

It's a Savin MP4002sp. I would have said it shouldn't matter, but at this point I don't know what to think. I visited another location using the same EHR software (Practice Fusion) and they did not have the same problem. They (the ones not experiencing the problem) are using a Savin MP3053sp. They have some MPC5503SP equipped with Equitrac. They want to have the name of the company in each scanned file as author's name. Does somebody have any experience in this kind of case ? This is what I've been told. The U.S. requires manufacturers to maintain a complete parts inventory for 7 years past the last date that the product was sold new. The final date of assured parts availability is the date that Ricoh will no longer replenish parts that run out. The only thing you could do is install the OCR, and then turn on "auto naming" of the scanned file. as long as you had the corporate name in the first 140 characters of the scanned document. The file would then have that corp name or user name in naming convection of the file

I concur 100% with your call findings! The extension thing is laughable—that is such poor service for new folks trying to do business with them. I get that situation more often than not. An inkjet system will not work well when utilizing 20lb bond paper for any applications requiring more than a small amount of coverage as you have the issue of bleed through of image. Most inkjet systems (HP-Canon-Ricoh) will recommend you run a heavier weight of bond or a coated inkjet paper for best quality and unfortunately this results in a higher consumable paper price

Xerox will install 16,000 printers

Xerox has landed a 10-year contract with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, worth $110 million. The contract means Xerox will install 16,000 printers and other devices that will use the company's ConnectKey software. An inkjet system will not work well when utilizing 20lb bond paper for any applications requiring more than a small amount of coverage as you have the issue of bleed through of image. Most inkjet systems (HP-Canon-Ricoh) will recommend you run a heavier weight of bond or a coated inkjet paper for best quality and unfortunately this results in a higher consumable paper price

Last Destination Help

Hello, we recently upgraded an account that had LD445C and now we put in MP4504 and they are complaining that their old copiers kept the last destination when you were scanning to either a folder or a FTP site. Is there a setting that we are missing or something that we can change to make this happen on the new system? We do not want to use batch or sadf mode as they put all of the documents in as one file and they need each scan to be different files. Help in this would be greatly appreciated.

This is a great article! One point that I disagree on is that HP will be entering the SMB market with this acquisition. What's the point? Dealers own the SMB market, and most dealers will sell whatever their customers already have. Where HP has the advantage is going into their national and global accounts where they dominate with MPS contracts on A4 devices. This is by no means scientific survey or anything like that just had some thoughts going through my head the last couple days. Is anyone being compensated on volume of machines and not GP?I hate to compare our industry with car sales but I know a lot of dealers are on this model. I know several people who make nothing but a very small salary until they sell 10 cars in a month and then start getting paid a commission after that 10th car for each one. I'm with Art. I would contact Kyocera support. Usually there is either a) a work around b) a different print driver would work in their environment or c) IT is being lazy. I'm sure Kyocera globally has encountered this issue before and has a solution.

Oracle/Unix Environment

We recently sold a CS3551ci to a customer. After the deal was done the IT department said it would not work with their Oracle/Unix environment. My understanding is that the IT department loves HP and the simplicity of installing HP printers and doesn't want to do anything extra to get the Kyocera working with Oracle. I've never even touched a Unix print server and I need to work with their IT department to get this working. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

The ability to add one touch keys to activate apps on a LCD tablet panel is now fairly common and not unique to Ricoh. What is unique to Toshiba are two hard keys to take you there with no LCD panel navigation. It helped to shoot down a new Ricoh MPC4504.

Xerox being a National company is fairly inflexible on altering or waiving this fee. I was in on a four machine deal at DND and Xerox was a little bit lower. We waived our normal $300.00 HDD removal fee and charged only $150.00 for the part. We got the deal even though the Standing offer describes us as a slightly more expensive vendor when calculating the TCO.

It is like anything in sales, if you think that you have something unique that a competitive vendor does not have, like hard keys on the control panel and you can spin it to become important in the customer's mind, you have a much better chance of closing the sale.

I would think that it would be easier to spin hard keys as being old school and antiquated. "I can't believe they still use old fashioned buttons on their machines...How long ago do you suppose this model was introduced?" "The job of any salesman is the strategic management of perception"
