Here is something I don't see others do very often...when going in early to renew a 36 month lease, I don't don't "eat" the buy-out, I extend the term. If I'm going to renew at 34 months, I write the renewal for 38 months. I explain to the DM that it ends up being the same 72 months, they just get the benefit of the lower renewal payment a couple months more. The extra funding from a 38 month rate doesn't cover all the cost of the 2 months of buy-outs but it sure helps. All you have to do is call the leasing company to get a rate quote for a 38 month term.

While driving today I thought about why I lost an opportunity and it was no fault of my own, however it was due to the end of the year push. That end of the year push was from a direct branch of a manufacturer. It was a dump on price to get the order in before the end of the year. Thus, most of us know that the magic month for pushing from manufacturers is the month of March, because the end of the fiscal year is March 31st. But, how many times do we think about when our dealer competitors fiscal year ends? Not all dealers end their fiscal day on the last day of December! Thus take some time to know more about your geo competitors and make a note of when their fiscal year ends. Knowing this little piece of info will help you in winning that business.

It was almost two weeks ago when I met with a net new client. The interest from the client was for a wide format MFP to replace two HP inkjet plotters, one working and one non working. At the end of the meeting I was told he would get back to me tomorrow with a decision because he wanted to discuss the finance terms I provided with his accountant. It's now been two weeks of a couple emails back and forth with the client telling on one occasion that he was swamped. My latest follow up on Thursday did not get a response. Of course my fear is that he is getting other quotes and that's the first thing that comes to mind. On the other hand he could be swamped and has put the decision making on the back burner. Would love to hear from others for the next step?

It was last Wednesday when I looked at my funnel and thought, "this ain't good, there's enough in the funnel but nothing is moving". That's my hint that I need to put some rubber on the road. I spent the last part of Wednesday culling my CRM for some planned cold calls. Seventy-five percent of these were net news that were not co-operating with my phone call efforts, the rest were existing accounts that needed to have a visit. read the rest here

Real Copier Sales Mistakes
Often a competitive sales rep will try and convince a copier purchaser to switch product based upon how much money we can save you.
The sales rep presents convincing Total cost of ownership analysis.
The only problem being that sometimes the customer's current costs are totally made up by the sales rep.
The sales rep is counting on, in some companies, that it might be too much work for the purchaser to verify their true current costs. Ty for this thread from SSG five years ago this week
