I believe I ran into a similar experience when printing to an MP C4504EX system, and the paper drawer was set to "Driver Command" instead of "Machine Settings" under "Printer Features", "System" "Tray Paper Settings" menu. WHen we set it back to "Machine Settings" the print job worked.

Is it just me or does this feature seem to be inconsistent and unreliable? I plug the USB drive in and I can print from it...sometimes. Other times it says the device is recognized when I plug it in but then when I go to print from it, it says it is not recognized. I've had better luck going to the feature, selecting print then inserting the device, but it still remains unreliable in my opinion. If they're going to have this feature, it should work consistently.

About a month ago I had a call from an existing client to meet about upgrading two of their older copiers that they owned and were under a maintenance agreement.  That call came from the new IT Director since the existing IT Director was retiring.  That meeting went well and since there were four other A3 printers, service has been exceptional, I priced those two MFP's with acceptable gross profit (I'm not in this business to give **** away because we all have to eat).  In addition the when asked "is there any issues or problems we need the address with the new IT Director the answer was "everything great".  More to come on this in my next blog.....

This is key: Make sure you are using the actual driver that you download from the Ricoh webpage. Macs will automatically set up the printer with a generic driver if you don't download the actual driver. The generic driver isn't nearly as detailed as the real driver. This is also something to look out for if you find you are missing features like user codes in the driver.

Thanks Fisher. Actually, this was an application setting. In Adobe X Pro the customer had a Color Profile that was set to something other than Savin MPC3003/C3503. After correcting this, the prints were much better. It's challenging dealing with the nuances of Mac and desktop publishing/graphic arts programs when you don't work in them every day. It's frustrating but customers expect us to be the printing experts and many times aren't familiar with their print settings. They just want it to

The source of the image is the same but the picture is different. Copiers get their print instructions from the source which isn't the monitor, it's the computer."

MP C3003 Color Quality

We have a client who is complaining about the color print quality on their Savin MPC 3003. It doesn't look too bad when printing from Windows but from Mac the colors seem to be off. I am hoping to return to do some troubleshooting soon. However, Mac OS is not my strong point. Does anyone have any guidance on where to start and what to look for? Not my strong point either but one of the things I would consider is the difference between PCL and PostScript drivers. The 03 series didn't come with emulated PS...you had to purchase the PS 3 option to have true native Postcript printing capability.

I call used machines "Off Lease" and tell the prospect to think of them as a program car, still very good but someone else took the retail hit. I say if a used machine needs to be re furbished I don't buy them. I don't sell used machines with high meters with the exception of Ricoh's "Greenline", we don't know the meters on those and I'm not impressed with those, lots of quality issues.

They are fine for a low volume but can be a pain to get fixed sometimes. The biggest pain point I see with these is people get them and want to use it to fold a single sheet. If customers do that it is very, very slow and they would be much better off with the multifold unit.
