Why does it matter how you get there? Dealers only change when their peers at other dealerships the industry pundits tell them how to change. Hey good morning from Orange County, Quick question, hoping someone can confirm a yay or nay. I have a prospective opportunity where the customer wants to replace some KMs and take over service on their HP fleet (60 printers). Their IT guy is telling me HP is directly bidding on this. I've seen the local Xerox dealer boasting a color CPC of 4 cents. However, when you do the math it seems like they have inflated the lease to offset the service difference. I arrived back in town from Aruba late on Monday.  Yup, I took a vacation and rarely accessed the internet! Yay for me.  To say the least I came back to state that is in pure panic mode with corona virus.  Tuesday was not so bad as four opportunities went HOT.  Did the work that I had to and subsequent days produced almost nothing, no email responses, no phone call responses and in four days I was only able to set four meetings for next week.

Starting on Monday I'll be sending ZOOM requests for those meetings to see if that can change things up.  Hoping for a good finish to the quarter.

It's Friday night and late. Tuesday evening I traveled to Atlantic City for our annual showing of wide format copiers and white boards.  Our event started Wednesday in the AM and lasted until 1PM today. I'm getting too old to put in 10 hour days on the show floor (lol).  I love doing them because of the interaction with potential clients and you never know who you're going to meet. We brought the BIG 65 inch white board and it was the sizzle that we needed to catch all of those prospects.  All in all the show was decent, this was our third year and I'm looking forward to next year.  Let's say I was on top of my game for demonstration and communicating!

Hello, a customer does not like the sets coming out somewhat uneven with the shift sort tray and maybe wants to get the finisher just so she does not have to straighten them. With the internal finisher, if you are not stapling and just want to offset sets, will the internal finisher produce neat sets with a jogger arm that comes out every print to keep them in a neat stack?

No money means no RD. Sharp is getting destroyed in Canada. Since Konica Minolta purchased Pitney Bowes' imaging division (Sharp's largest dealer in Canada), they've been offering customers massive incentives to flip their Sharp gear into KM bizhubs. I think there's more value in Sharp's direct channel base customer list than the actual technology. I've always found the MX series to be lacking in quality and ease of use. Great info. It seems Mac users upgrade their OS much more frequently than Windows users. This is why most of our Mac users have chosen (been persuaded ) to use scan to email. However, there are times when scan to email is no substitute for scan to folder.

Mac and Adobe Reader XI

PDF it wanted to print on 11 x 17. Seems it likes to do whatever you did last although I can't say 100% that it is consistent. I removed the IT installed print driver that I believe was using AirPrint and installed as IP printer. Does anyone know if this is normal or if there is something I'm missing? This may end up being a blessing for the Sharp copier division. If the division is sold to a company with money, they could be in a more competitive situation. Their new products are very strong. Overall, the copier division has been on a positive swing the last 2 years.

So I tried them out from October until January and Jason was right on the money. For the first month two months the quality of leads were semi-decent, $27.00 per lead, won two (although couldn't get them lease approved) They had a minimum dollar thresh hold of $1K for hardware and for some reason removed it from their criteria in December. It went from legitimate A3 and small A4 to people looking for, at best, a $300 Staples printer, price shopping Costco for home office and used equipment. It

The first thread of the post is a blog I wrote five years ago with my prediction for the imaging aka copier industry for 2016.  Most of those predictions did not come true in 2016, however Ricoh did buy DocuWare last year, Mega dealers have substantially increase their geographic reach, and acquisitions of smaller office equipment dealers is running at a fever pace.

Focusing on gaining more market-share in the copier industry is a fool's game, unless you're the manufacturer. Dealers that hope to be around profitable in the future have to find alternative revenue streams, because the fact of the matter is that not everyone needs a $15,000 A3 MFP when in many cases a $1,000 A4 MFP will do. For the dealer community, it has to be about capturing profitable recurring revenue streams, whether that be through SaaS solutions, MPS, Managed Services, BPO, etc

Samsung is the one who has the cash to buy anyone in the industry. Year before last they had 32 billion in cash on hand at year end they had to spend for tax purposes etc.

Canons internal site does not have that machine on it anymore. Sometimes they have some legacy stuff but I guess not that far back. My guess is it probably scans around 60 pages per minute being a 55ppm machine. I saw one recently run before we took it out of a clients office and I'd be surprised if it was higher than 60 after seeing it run.

I just tried with the document server with one original, told it to print 20 and the staple. The foolish machine was then stapling after every one page that was printed. That was no help.

I have recently noticed on Ricoh Color unints 2250 and up that POE on a Cisco switch will cause confusion on the print controller. One type of error would be the job is sent down and the display will say "waiting for data" or "Printing" and nothing will happen. It will lock up the cue with all the jobs stuck. The best thing Ricoh could give us is advanced scanning functionality as a standard feature. To be able to navigate to whatever network folder a user wants would be huge, as would the ability to scan to Word or Excel. Canon already has these features, so we are at a huge price disadvantage if it is functionality a customer needs since we have to add ICE (which has a less-than-desirable UI) or NSI AutoStore.

Keep in mind the initial launch will be the printer only at 90ppm, this unit will have the new vacuum feed LCT which will add some cost, but feed heavy, coated and many other media MUCH better. The big question will be the cost of supplies for the 5th station and how to set up click charges or simply leave the customer to purchase these special supplies separate. Lets face it the Xerox 1000 is $250k, we will have a much lower price on these new units.

A customer wants to print from a remote office about 10 miles from their main office. They think this should be simple. Like, "I have internet and I have the printer installed, why can't I print". I'm trying to explain to them that they need to have connectivity from point a to point b such as a VPN. We may also discuss Google Cloud Print but from what I've seen it isn't always reliable. Then, I got thinking about IPP printing and while I understand the concept I don't know how to set it up

Ricoh Fax Journal not reporting what was sent

I am hoping someone will have some insight to this. I have Ricoh's (301-2852-4002-C4503, etc) at a hospital. When they type in the number to send a fax not all faxes sent are on the journal. Furthermore, if they type in a fax number and the receiving end has an electronic fax service, the e-fax service number or name comes up on the journal for tx rather than the number they dialed. In everything I have looked at, it says for "prioritizing items of journal info contact your service

customer is excited about the 5th station. I will enable him to generate additional sales and profits, however, will the increase in price far outweigh what he can make in profit? Case in point, if the system is $50K higher than the C751, that equals $1,000 more per month in lease price. I'm thinking this system is coming in at the MSRP of the 901's. Agree or disagree?

Art, it looks like this is a device to compensate for only having 1 Ethernet port on the device. This looks like it would be used to essentially turn the USB port on the device to an alternate Ethernet port that can be configured for another LAN. I believe the MFP (Savin C9020) should have the hardware necessary for what I want to do. I just need to understand how to configure IPP printing, how to make it available to the outside world and what the security risks are. Does that make sense?

A few years ago I was digging through some of my parents stuff that saved after they both had passed.  I found a pamphlet was printing in 1941 and was titled "800 Ways to Save and Serve", which was designed to help Americans with the World War II effort. I re-posted these on the site and the first one was titled "Pamper the Sweet Tooth in Wartime".  Having never lived through rationing (except for gas), I found these articles to be interesting in the lives of the Americans during WW2.

Nitro PDF and BH654e

Tried posting earlier but never saw the post show up. Any have a customer that bought a BH554e and a BH654e. The 554e will print their PDF without any problems. They print to the PDF to the 654e and the letter "U" drops out on occasion. Even if I use the 554e driver on the 654e. Even took the document to a BH C654e and had the same results. The 654e driver has no problem on the 554e. I was able to get the 654e to print properly but it was with a HP print driver which they do not want to use as

I think that while in theory this sounds good, it's not gonna fly. Already we're competing against dealers who have color clicks down to $.039 and black clicks down to $.005-$.006 on moderate speed office color units (35 45 ppm units). And these aren't those staggered click prices that Kyocera or Xerox dealers are offering for different forms of color (a splash, a bit, or full color). Even if they double click them, you're then back to industry standard for clicks, but most aren't double

Sounds like an issue with Nitro. But I have seen some weird issues if the print driver version and firmware version do not match. Verify that you have the proper driver for firmware version.

Have a remote session scheduled for today with Nitro and the customer. By the way, Nitro is 10 hours off from me also. Anyway the customer also e-mail me today that the PDF was being created through a Linux server using 10+ year old software. Some how the customer would print to this and the PDF was created. They would then take that PDF and add a text box for additional information. Where the letter "U" gets messed up is outside the text box. So it looks as though it is going to come down to

Found out at the customer today that the document they were complaining about was the one and only that gave a problem. Found out that a print stream was sent to an old Red Hat server, converted to a text file, then to a PDF. For some reason this is the only invoice they did this with. Everything other PDF is being created a newer way. As near as we can figure is the Red Hat server was creating an older non-compatible PDF. The real kicker is they found out 3 days ago and still wanted Nitro to

Hey guys, Just seeing this now. Out office works with a large geography and it's unreasonable to expect to see our reps in the morning and the end of the day. We have defined a set amount of high value activiers per day/week/month and these are the means by which the end goal is achieved (sales results). Through our CRM system Insightly we are able to keep track of the high value activites, get involved in sales cycles and provides feedback on time and territory management with this real time

I need to read up on it a little more but it appears to mirror the Samsung and Kyocera solution from what I can tell by reading on paper. Teachers create their test on the computer, make the answer key, students take the test, and then scan back through to the system which grades it and provides analytics on questions, grades, etc. I was wondering if Gravic was making all these for everyone or if Canon's is actually a Canon product. I've never even heard about the grading solution from our DSM from Ricoh either. Do you ever think that maybe the time is right that companies like Canon, Ricoh, KM, and Xerox change the channel business? Meaning, instead of offering dealerships for everything, they offer a "health care" dealership that includes "x" hardware and "x" solutions. I think the DSM's are stretched so thin now a days that it is impossible to learn these solutions and master them without doing it on your own. I only wish we would have been able to become a dealer at that time. We were talking with them around the time IKON was purchased and everything went silent and then about a year later they came back. They are apparently getting more and more aggressive with their approach and it appears in 2015 they will have network/it support program for dealers to contract with to provide IT services to clients. I tried to pry a little more info from their team but it appears they are still in the planning stages. My best guess is that it may model the Ricoh CHAMPS program.

So, from a CHAMPS perspective we don't really have too much trust in Ricoh Corporate and have gone back and forth deciding if we would use the program or not. So, some of these may be a little off the wall. Dealer exclusive product naming (how different should it be?) I've always thought thatwhen the dealer bought the equipment from the manufacturerthat the dealer should be able to "brand" the equipment with it's own name. I was told years ago, that there was a line in the dealer agreements that would not allow this. Thus, I could call my Ricoh MP C5503 a Genesis 3055, and I could make my own marketing pieces. Hey Gang, I'm hoping for some insights on Dealer preferences for BTA/Dealer-exclusive lines from the traditional printer/IT channel guys (e.g. Lexmark BSD, OKI MPS/BTA, etc). Growing within the "copier" channel is of course a major priority for these vendors, and certainly something that the other printer guys (specifically HP Xerox A4) are keeping an eye on. We went down this road with Oki awhile back and it worked pretty well but at the time, Ricoh was very deficient on color products and Oki had some compelling MPS strategies. They had uniquely branded products and specially keyed supplies as well as extremely aggressive dealer channel pricing. We had some success following the initial launch but I can't remember the last time we sold an OKI. It's just too hard to keep up with all the changes happening within our primary brand to try to maintain

For the ECM Service we would engage the customer and then hand it over to Ricoh for them to bill and maintain. The BDR service is provided by Ricoh but they bill us and we bill the customer monthly depending on there data volume. You say you do it internally how do you prospect for customers? Do you talk about it with your MFP customers or is it done separately?

I believe this is a fair estimate but in my experience I believe it is mainly on the call in's. When someone calls me and asks for "X" model with a booklet finisher, 100 sheet doc feeder, fax, USB, Postscript, Tandem Paper Tray and Hole Punch, I pretty much think they have already been talking to sales reps or have been reading the brochure. I do however still go on many appointments and calls where the client has absolutely no clue what they want or anything. I'm with Art, I can barely

Hello, I just sold an Okidata MPD 711C Printer to an account and it is wrinkling / crinkling envelopes big time. They only do them occasionally and this is the first time they have tried so the machine never printed them ok before either. I have a friend that tested this printer, I will ask him. He sent the printer back to Oki because it did not do envelopes properly and he did not get another one. BTW the Ricoh CP 821DN does an awesome job with envelopes. More tomorrow if I remember. Art

I just looked at the model number and that was not the printer he tested, sorry!!! He tested a much higher end model. Did you try changing any of the internal print settings at the printer? I know with the Ricoh device, you have to change that before running envelopes.

Yes, I changed everything at the printer and in the driver. A tech went by also and he came up with the same conclusion. I am going to have to either provide a separate envelope printer or take the machine back and sell them some thing else (if they will do business with me after this). Yea, I wish I had sold them a Ricoh to begin with. Oki had convinced management that they were a better alternative. Guess no one tested the envelope feeding...

Yes, I think a BYOD would benefit from this feature. The administrator can share the printer with users and they can print from various mobile devices. It relieves some of the ownership of having to maintain hardware and provide requirements on what can and cannot connect to a print server and driver installation.

I order the Smart Op Panel with almost every one of these I sell and get nothing but rave reviews. The only exceptions are with customers that are using or considering using embedded solutions since Ricoh has yet to tell us that embedded solutions will work with the Smart Op Panel.

Had a pretty cool thing happen yesterday.  I was visiting one of my existing accounts because they had a question on one of their higher end printers.  The owner of the company then told me about a call he received from another business owner asking about how he likes his copiers.  I was given the contact name and the company, since that company was only a few minutes away I was on my way.

Stopping in un-announced is always a little dicey.  The DM was in the office and I had to wait a bit, and we then sat down for the next 45 minutes.  Not sure where this will go, however every opportunity counts.

Great post. Sounds like the frustration level is at a boiling point. One thing I can offer is in regards to the delivery/install fee, this is not as scalable as you might think. But in my time at a dealership the company president, sales managers, and I designed a plan that would scale based on speed segment and quantity. So, with some TLC, your company should have some wiggle room here rather than just stamping a flat fee on everything.The other thing we did was bundle the price into the

It helps if salesperson is at quota. May have compassionate ear . Best of luck. May be a good idea to consider working on a contract basis , need to have the business and confidence and resources to do so. Don't plan on many incentives other than making your own fortune... Best wishes...

Bill of Lading return charges, and true delivered costs as sales reps. We are a 23 year old highly respected company Are my reps stupid thinking this is an unrealistic plan?? Its pretty much 50% of profit with the lowest street cost, virtually no padding, tons of support? I would be curious on how some other comp plans are administered.

John GP Quota's is what I grew up on. Revenue Quota's are not healthy for the sales people, but good for the dealer. I'm 34 years in the business and still have yet to hit monthly, quarterly and yearly in the same year. Although GP commissions is not what it used to be
