Canon Large Format Print Heads Drying Up

Does anyone know how often these systems should be ran to keep the print heads from clogging. I usually tell customers they need to run every couple days. I have heard several different answers to this. I usually use it as an opportunity to move them to a toner system even with the higher cost up front, they will save a lot in the long run.

is anyone using the Ricoh champs program? We recently presented a 30,000.00 solution to a medical group to scan their documents and digitize them through the CHAMPS program. Due to it being a smaller medical group the Dr. asked us to lease it. Great America is our primary leasing partner and they do not lease these services. You're gonna make me get technical! Sp mode 5045-002 set to "5" causes user counter to display square feet. By the way, the 480w (like all good toner-based Ricoh WF devices) is capable of being set to display: Meters, Feet, Yards, and Squared versions of same. The caveat is/was: you should only change meter type once, and it is recommended to do so at setup (or installation).

I don't have a problem with this, I know people who work for Scott tissue who would rather use their sleeve than blow their nose on a Kleenex. My company buys PCs from the brands who are also our clients. Etc, I almost feel like if you have pride in your company and brand you should want to go out of your way to buy the products. Maybe not the Sharp Polaris Pro series though... Have a great weekend everyone,

What current issue or benefit do they currently have that makes this important to them? From there, it would be easier to provide what they want. It would be a lot easier if Ricoh would introduce a Print Enabler for Android. Pretty much every other manufacturer has a Print Enabler, it makes printing basically the same as printing from PC minus finishing features. I really like the Smart Device Print App because of the ability to do Locked Print, Finishing, User Codes and the like.

For lack of a better name, I'll call it scan2anywhere and what I mean is that you can browse all of the shared file folders on the server from the copier MFP panel. This is not a standard option on the Ricoh's, we need to add Global Scan. Please, is that feature standard on other manufacturers such as Xerox, Sharp, KonicaMinolta, Toshiba, Kyocera, Canon? I've only seen one MFP that had this feature out of the box and it was a Muratec.

but dropped it due to quality of machines and lack of fulfillment of promises Kyocera made to us upon becoming a dealer. We added canon about 3 years ago now and that has been great. We picked up Lexmarks printers this year and we've sold more printers ytd than probably the last 5 years combined. Lastly we just picked up MURATEC. I'm extremely pleased with their line (Konica) and their support. It helps our rep lives about 5 mins from my office and he doesn't cover 30 states and 200 dealers like

them against the direct office. We had always told all the brands calling on us that we only wanted a single line and always turned them down. That was pretty much when we started to diversify. Another reason was that sharp was, at the time, very strong in our market and had A4 machines before Ricoh did and we were getting slaughtered on deals selling A3 to the same customers so we picked up SAMSUNG.

Just got off the phone with my DBM and OF COURSE Ricoh has one machine in the county system so I can't keep them out if the board wants to consolidate under one vendor.I'm thinking my days as a sole source RFG dealer are over. I could add Sharp, they call me every now and then but EVERYONE around here sells Sharp. Looked at Kyocera once but they wanted $65k buy in. Suggestions?

We're in Illinois. I have brought inmy DSM/DBM and a Ricoh Solutions specialist when necessary didn't help in the last instance. When we see Xerox selling off the state contract they usually sell at below our US Communities cost. I would add a solid A4 lineup from Lexmark or Samsung. They're aggressively priced, & Ricoh would likely still consider you a single source dealer. A3 placements are on the decline, & A4 is the only growing segment, plus the aftermarket revenues and profits are higher.

It's difficult to sell dealer service and benefits when your pricing is 30% higher. That's a lot of value to add and if anyone thinks they can truly do that much value on a regular basis, I want them on my team.

That's about all I can tell my reps is good luck. Your not going to beat the directs on price. If you can sell the value of a dealer/customer relationship that's the best bet. My post may have sounded a little Blount/direct towards you which wasn't intended. I just get fed up when I see my reps bring quotes back that we can't even touch without losing money.

Price , as an objection has always been challenging. I use to spread difference over 5 yrs then load up on advantages which I could offer. Sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't. You seem to be seasoned at this. If significant enough I brought DSM from Mfgr. That helped me get customers attn.. Usually mentioned to prospect longevity of rep from dealer vs. transition of direct contact if that helps. Let me know how you make out.. Again best wishes. What state are you in?

The MP C306 is now on InfoCenter. The Sales Information Guide says that the supplies are NOT interchangeable with the C305 so hopefully the costs are lower but I haven't seen supply pricing yet.

I will also add since you mentioned wanting to do this on copiers/MFPs: our industry also needs to get the idea that MPS only has to do with printers A4 MFPs out of their heads. Output is output, our clients don't see any difference so why should we? Properly deploy what systems meet the client's needs (or just get rid of them if that is best) be of service in whatever way you can. Hell, our customers want all of this stuff to go away (just wait til the Millenials are in the C-Suite). Either

3 x 4.5 Inch envelopes

Anyone have any ideas for what machine (low end) we could placed to fit this need. It is a very small printer and these envelopes are printed for florists to go on arrangements. Currently doing it offset and want to go digital with it. Most every spec i've seen shows 3x5 as the smallest size. No, Art. You're spot on. I haven't had many jobs outside the industry, but the majority of the old guard is so proud of the way they've always done it & receives so much validation from other dealers with the same mentality (via BTA, CDA, SDG, et al) that they often refuse to admit the need to change until it's practically too late. There are ideas & concepts that I brought up 3-5 years ago that were considered to be "interesting but not really necessary" that we're suddenly latching...

The Week in Copiers 5 Years Ago Second Week of September 2015

I had some big news today. Well it was big for me and may or may not be big for others.  Most of you that I sell a lot of wide format MFP's.  I've been with the Ricoh wide format product since 1998.  There are or let me say there were three toner based wide formats models that Ricoh offers to their dealers and direct channel.  Seems COVID19 has now caused Ricoh to eliminate both the MP W7100 and MP W8140 (10 ppm & 14ppm) from their lineup.  Thus leaving only one toner based wide format.  I asked myself what happens when a client needs four rolls?  The answer is they will now buy Oce (Canon) or KIP. I'll be blogging more about this shortly.

I’m looking for a laser printer that meets these criteria: Can stack at least 50 envelopes at a time and print them reliably with minimal creasing has a hard drive that can serve as a virtual mailbox for print jobs that can then be released either by walk up or through URL Ricoh's current product can handle the virtual mailbox requirement but falls way short on the envelopes. It would be a lot easier if Ricoh would introduce a Print Enabler for Android. Pretty much every other manufacturer has a Print Enabler, it makes printing basically the same as printing from PC minus finishing features. I really like the Smart Device Print App because of the ability to do Locked Print, Finishing, User Codes and the like.

margin thanks to the low ball price from RBS but I told our Ricoh rep about it and much like everything else it gets "0" attention. That is low down selling at its finest. Anyone else had this happen as of the last couple months. Our reps now carry the NY Times article from 1994 when Ricoh purchased Savin to show to the customers if it comes up again.

Wide Format is in a big transition right now, I know KIP is no longer going to be putting any RD into monochrome printing anymore. Its all color from this point forward, I know Oce (or CSA) is thinking the same way. I can't speak for Ricoh but at this point why would you put any money into it. Ink jet is not the answer ether so the Epson deal in not going to get you into too many doors. If the KIP 800 series is priced right (somewhere in the $25K-30K area) a lot of them will be going in. I do find the Ricoh's to be very reliable. What they need is speed though, IMO. Have worked with a steel maker on some projects and he has 4 big Oce's that run all day long, 5 days a week. He loved the 3406 but said he would have to buy about 8 or 10 of them do the same work the 4 high speed Oce's run. He wouldn't bite on the 7140's either.

Call that KIP sales Rep again and make a deal with him. If you can get the deal with 2 KIP 9900s (those will replace the 4 Oce's), then you get to be a KIP dealer. He will also spend half as much in toner as those Oce machines just eat toner.

Hey Art! I started using Aweber email software about 5 months ago. I send out a monthly newsletter with a customized template. People read it! Best part is that you always stay top of mind with your prospects. I actually exported my contact list from my CRM software and imported that into Aweber. Did anyone else catch this? I sat in for about and hour, although it was nothing really new, it did remind me of the basics. Actually there was something that I didn't even think of, when we're making phone calls, we are actually conducting "disruptive marketing", gee, never thought about it that way. I asked our Ricoh rep about all of this a few days ago and he said it was great news for the dealer network as we wouldn't have to worry about Ricoh sales reps coming into accounts as competition and these smaller deals would start to come back to the dealer channel instead of Ricoh buying a 2 or 3 machine account for less than we can buy it for. They just don't get it....

Yes, I am big history nut so we have to do all of that stuff - 9/11 memorial, Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, and anything else that is there to see. A friend of mine said they would probably have something very nice for the 9/11 memorial being that it's the week of 9/11. I'm looking forward to seeing the city.

I can't find anything in InfoCenter, but your Service Department should be able to get it from the Product Support Guide. The information in the Sales Information Guide is somewhat contradictory, stating in one area that Trays 1-3 can run Coated/Matt stock up to 110 lb. Cover (300 gsm) and stating in another that it can only run up to 140 lb. Index (256 gsm). The bypass DLCT can run up to 110 lb. Cover. I also just heard from my Canon rep about 5 minutes ago that the other directs would probably follow suit and do the same thing. This would be the time of year when I'm looking forward to attending the BTA East Dealer Event that's usually held in late September or early October. One of the reasons I look forward to the event is because it's local.  For the last three years the event was held in NYC.  The year before that it was Baltimore, and before that it was in Connecticut.  BTA East will not be happening this year do to COVID19.  Kinda sad was always a good time to get together with my peers, visit with the vendors and engage in their educational sessions.

They are never going to get their act together. I spoke with Jim Corridi at the CDA meeting several months ago and he told me big things were coming down the pipeline very soon because he agreed it would be hard to upgrade 3406WD systems with a 3406WD system. He also, however, acted like the Epson was going to be the latest and greatest thing for all of us that sell wide format. Not sure why sincewe don't typically mess with the ink jet machines. You can find the Epson's extremely cheap online

Art, I think the industry is starting to figure out that Oce equipment is not as well built as it used to be. My techs hate working on them. In fact were finding the Ricohs are more reliable than the Oces. GR

We were talking with KIP but my father did not want to order 2 or 3 machines at one time for inventory like they wanted us to.I talked with Oce' and the guy was pretty much like talking to a wall and said he didn't need anymore dealers in his territory and pretty much hung up. I would like to have an alternative and not be at Ricoh's mercy. I have tried to upgrade 3406's with 3406's and it doesn't go over that well.

The Epson thing is a joke. You can buy it on-line for less than you can buy it from Ricoh and so can your customer. I've got a customer right now who is at end of term on a 48 month lease on a LW426 and I have no choice but to go back to them with the exact same machine......oh and my cost is now higher for that same machine thanks to Plotworks (which gets thrown in the garbage). Would love to have KIP now.

I have a customer who has uncovered a strange situation for which I'm trying to find a resolution. The initial complaint was that all printing to the Savin MPC3003 is taking a long time. In trying to duplicate the problem I was able to identify at least 1 known issue that I can reproduce. When trying to print a 16MB PowerPoint presentation from their Mac OSX 10.10.4 with the PostScript driver the document takes over 5 minutes just to RIP the job. Thanks Art, that was my initial thought. However, the problem is with the RIP, the MFP is doing what it is told...the problem is the information is just taking too long to get to it. I'm still working on it, gathering information so that when I call the hotline again I'll be better prepared. I'm in the process of recreating this in our office. It took 16 minutes to print the 17 page PowerPoint.

This being a power point, they should save the finished power point as a pdf and they should be printing the pdf not the actual power point file. Just asking for problems otherwise.

We do, but it's kind of a catch 22. For one thing, it's hard to keep the good ones from moving into a field sales role or from going to a better-paying inside sales job in a different industry. For another, executives use it as a reason to reduce certain components of sales reps comp plans. I understand giving the telemarketers a cut of the commission but arguing that the department costs too much (especially when speaking to top producers) is a standard greedy owner cop out. Anyone using Telemarketers in your office

I have been hearing more and more lately about using telemarketers, or "appointment setters" in house. I am hearing great feedback from several people about the number of deals they are getting now and how much business has been brought in. One guy I know has 5 and they are killing it from what he told me. They make 150 calls a day per person if I remember correct and are responsible for setting 35 appointments for the sales reps a week. Does anyone have a feedback to share on this. I have
