Ricoh 1022 Faxing - Memory issue

·
I have a customer who has a Ricoh 1022 with Fax Option and when they fax 10-15 pages, the memory gets close to 0%. I have added a HDD and additional memory and nothing helps. Does anyone know if this is normal for faxing on this machine. I tried a much older Mita standalone fax that has far less memory and it had no problem faxing a 50 page document with high page coverage %.

I see where you said you installed a HDD and extra memory.I assume that was for the printer/scanner side. But, the AF1022 has an option for fax memory upgrade. Did you install the 400dpi/Page Memory Ricoh Order# 000826MIU. This will give you the ability to store more pages for a fax transmission. slim463

The number of pages in SAF memory is really a "your mileage may vary" 2 meg (standard) should be about 120 pages of 8 1/2 x 11" 5% fill documents. If the pages are legal size or if they have alot of print or especially is they have pictures, then the memory can be used up alot faster. IOW 10 legal size docs with some have a dark background (like on green paper for instance) will fill up the SAF PDQ. That's a good point, and makes me realize I misread the question. I read "is the .CPC extension supported" but you asked "can these files be printed". The answer will be, of course they can be printed... As long as your customer has a Windows-Based program that can open the file. You can then just use the windows print driver to sent the print. You will not be able to submit them with Plotclient, or have Plotbase understand them natively, but once they pass thru the driver, it should work fine

Awesome color, handles high volume. Not very user friendly IMO. These are going to be the replacement for the 3100c or Aficio 3131. Modular componets. PM can be done in under 40mins if tech rebuilds in shop. Ricoh has very low target volumes for the 2500/3000. Toshiba says their's will go into much higher volume location. Lets hope the new 35/45 color will handle higher volumes. JG

I saw a couple on line for the printers and they said generally that the blacks were gray and the colors light. Further that Ricoh planned it that way becasue of the duplexing capability. However, the technology is characterized as "fast drying" to eliminated smears. I have an HP Deskjet that duplexes, the colors are bold and deep, It doesn smear when duplexing

I understand that our machines are capable of clicking once for 11 x 17, but that's not really what we want. Generally QuarkXpress is used with complex graphics, do you know the size of the file you are sending? It could just be that the file is very large with complex graphics. Yes, it does. How does the printer know when to count four clicks as one. It has no way of knowing what the page looks like???? Is this somehow referring to the differences on page clicks verses development clecks. THIS REALLY PUTS INTO QUESTION HOW AFFORDABLE THE UNITS ARE TO OPERATE AND SEEMS TO GO AGAINST RICOH'S MATRA OF LOWER TCO.

Re: Color Cost Per Copy

Big Dog (Guest) ·
I'd like to get this question answered both for print and copy. When talking about printing, you refer to meta data. Please explain meta data. I assume this is information sent with the print job to the printer. So if I send a BW or color page to the printer and have color selected in the driver, meta data is sent to the printer and all prints whether BW or color are printed as color. Therfore BW pages are printed using "proceesed black". If BW is selected in the driver.all pages print as BW

The color clicks are click based on the meta data of the file not whether or not the page has color on it. You can have pages with no color printing and clicking as color if the job was sent as color and the document has the color meta data in it. At least this is how I understand it to be. We’ve used FM Audit at several locations to capture monthly print volume. I used it under ITs’ supervision of course. It’s a very useful tool. It won’t capture printers connected directly to PCs but, most of them are very low volume anyway. As for cost analysis, you can export to excel and plug in the cost per page for each model printer. Giving you the monthly or yearly cost. A very good tool for sales and cost justification.

If you ran this weight on a Ricoh (and it didn't jam which would be highly unlikely) you'd be replacing rollers and fusing sections like they were going out of style. This isn't the case on the Konicas? Sorry if this is a little redundant, but I have to find some kind of a defense to this objection that is bound to arise.

I'm not an engineer, so I don't know the design decisions behind that. All I can tell you for us is that the machines have been living up to their promised specifications. You may want to consider

I lost a deal to the 250 because of the paper weight and t-shirt transfer claim. they told the client that the 250 would run 140lb....bad thing for customer is he purchased not leased and now he is stuck with the machine...and guess what the rep no longer works for Konica Minolta!

It's Oh, I see. @remote isn't for everyone. Ricoh reccomends it being placed in accounts with 10 or more machines. While it primarily tracks network copiers, it can actually track up to 5 devices that are not connected to the network, but it connects to them through serial cables, so not great if the customer has long distances between machine. And while it does usually send in this information over the internet, it can use a phone line to "call in" the information as well.

I have only seen the transfer material used on Deskjets (type) or Toshiba C1000 which used a wax ribbon and a thermal print head for image transfer.

Ricoh has new engines coming to replace the 32 series that will solve that issue. According to Ricoh you can run thick stock out of the drawers with no issues.

Our primary method has been fax for a long time, we setup email meter readings a few years ago, I'd have to check what % of customers are using that. If all else fails theres the phone.

I'm new to this device, so this device will only work if the MFP is connected to the network. Right now we have about 20% of our equipment that is connected to a network. It's the other 80% that we have to call or have faxed in.

Why is this topic in the AS/400 forum? Now that I'm certified on @remote I can answer more questions. Ricoh reccomends it be placed in accounts with 10 or more machines. The really strange thing here is that the @remote device captures the data (including customer name, Model of machine, Serial Number and all useage data), sends it to Ricoh Japan, and then allows the dealer to access it.

Thanks for the replies. It has been interesting. I have a friend who is attending a 3day school this week and he wasnt too impressed. Like me he has a technical job and technical certs (A+, N+) . He is attending becasue Ricoh requires it. He said that while he is learning a lot of new terms and information he isnt sure he will ever use it. Not sure what you mean. Each device is setup seperately. The data is sent to Ricoh, then forward to the dealer (you). The customer doesn't see this data, it would contain details for every customer. Dealers can run reports and export data to provide to the customer.

Re: @ Remote is Here!!

I understand that the "program" works that way. However, I have a fortune 500 that orders a quarter million a year that really wants @Remote and I really want a list of every print device they own. But they want to be able to get the info themselves and I would like to at least have the option of considering that possibility. The benefit to us would be huge. Obviously I can't give them direct access if it gives them access to all of our other accounts as well.

You can set a Key Operator s Email address and then set User Parameter 20, bit 7 to 1. That would send an email if there was an error. Maybe the easiest way is to set up SNM and the sender can view the status of their fax that way.

I don't think I was as clear as I should have been in my previous post. They would transport the mfp with them and use it for printing locally. The main problem comes when they want to send a fax. I'm thinking of selling them an AC205 and showing them that they can scan via usb or Scan to PC software and then sending the fax via a third party solution like smart fax. The AC205 would be ideal because it is lightweight, inexpensive and has the scan to usb capability. The main hurdle is the third

I think if you map the port of the MFP through the firewall. The end-user (on their laptop in the field) Could print via IPP. (Internet Printing Protocol) I know the Ricoh MFP's have this capability. To be honest I never have done this. But, in theory it can be done. That is where I would look. -slim463

Boy do I have alot of Gripes!!!!!

Get this, my boss (the owner) calls me and tells me about an existing client that wants to upgrade thier duplicator. He states he wants to give to me since I am the most knowledgable in our office about duplicators. It is a church account and there is competition, I get the deal and make $300 in commissions, plus the $200 spiff from Ricoh. Not bad....I was happy with the outcome. Now a month later I get an email from him saying that it is his account and he is taking the $200 spiff from Ricoh

That was just wrong. But who is to say the next guy wouldnt do the same thing. I have heard similar things from our salesmen about our boss. And from other techs in other companys. Like changing the commission after the sale, or changing the compensation after the deal. I am sure not everyone is like that but with about 5-6 employers under my belt, I can safely say it is not uncommon.

Re: Gas Price Check

A thought hit me while looking over the articles here. Since the major gas companies are making billions in quarterly profits, any chance the copier companies servicing their copiers could base their CPC's on what their local gas charges are? How would they react to paying $2.75 per copy, excluding toner? Just a wishful thought!

I totally agree, making changes after-the-fact is just WRONG!!! I guess every salesperson struggles with situations like this with at least one of their employers. All we can do is voice our opinion and try to change the situation. If we can't, like you said, we have two choices -- put up with it or go somewhere else. Either way, if we let it affect our attitude, it can dull our edge, and we can miss a sale -- losing even more money due to the same situation.
