There are those in our industry that continue to blast our because he believes our industry is dying and will self destruct.  This coming from a person who is not involved in the day to day business in our industry.  That person is a self proclaimed analyst.

However, when one keeps badgering the industry with cries of wolf, then sooner or later those that listen will turn a deaf ear.

I don't mind someone who can point out the faults, but in turn those pointing the finger need to offer up solutions on how change.

some laser printers generate toner that is hazardous to your health. It claims that 17 of the 62 it tested are “high particle emitters”, and that breathing in the toner might be as bad as inhaling cigarette smoke. Models named as polluters including some Hewlett Packard models. (no Konica Minolta products apparently named, but one wonders if this study was funded in any way by inkjet printer manufacturers) Models mentioned as “high emitters” are: o HP Color LaserJet 4650dn (made by Canon) o HP

Two things going on there. B2C is about how the b&w and color clicks are handled. Basically, a b&w machine that also has color. Some color copiers can't separate out the solely b&w clicks and charge the color cpc for every click. B2C can make the distinction and charge accordingly. "Creative color" is marketing spin to cover the fact that Ricoh B2C color isn't as good as some other manufacturers, such as Konica Minolta's. Our Ricoh trainer guy also used to say "pleasing color" or "office color

Aficio 2232 Fax forwarding subject line ?

dvb (Guest) ·
When setting up the aficio 2232 or any Ricoh product is there a way to set a default subject line for scan to email or fax forwarding to email. Customer had a Toshiba machine and liked that the Toshiba could be programmed to include the fax number of a fax that came in on before forwarding to an email account. The message included the fax number of the incoming fax in the body of text of the email. Also for scanning to email can the subject line be defaulted to a certain message ?

Re: Aficio 2232 Fax forwarding subject line ?

I am not sure about the forwarded fax message including the sending fax machine number. I know the default subject for the MP series color machines can be changed to whatever the end user needs. The sending fax machine should transmit the fax information along with the fax so any image printed/viewed should display the fax number anyway. Either way, the current B2C Ricohs are tough to beat in a lot of areas.

well said Shaja, bit depth is far more important to quality color than resolution. if you have 8 bit 600X600 your quality will be much better than a 2 or 4 bit with a resolution of 2400X1800. Like a Konica minolta guy told me on resolution you can only put so many dot in an inch until they start to just pile up whereas the bit depth has to do with the color variation per pixel.

I have never seen a Ricoh printer (or any other laser printer) consistently produce printed envelopes without creasing the paper. 3 "flaps" of paper going thru pressure and heat - like ironing shirt collar. Humidity seems to affect this more than anything else. GelSprinters won't wrinkle your envelopes. It doesn't appear you can select number 10 size envelopes. I think you will have to input the length and width as a custom size.

The golden age of copiers and some may argue when that was, however I had the opportunity to be in the golden age of the business.  It's my belief that the Golden Age of copier started in 1980 and ran till 2010.  My reasoning starts with the mass production of plain paper copiers in the early eighties, then the introduction of the digital copiers in the nineties and lastly the coming of age for digital color copiers.  Technology which brought about so many changes in those 30 years has taken it's toll with advanced digital process (email, pdf, OCR, document management) that has reduced our clicks for the last 12 years.  Change is good and we need to Change!

A year or so ago, I sat in on a webinar conducted by John Kiefer and Jon Standaert, Ricoh digital support representatives and training experts extraordinaire. I could swear that they demonstrated a toolbar that would create the hot folder with automatic print functionality you want. For the life of me I can't think of the name of the program and nothing I see on Ricoh's solutions site sounds familiar

Re: How Can I Solve this Problem?

Ok, I tested my theory and it does not automate the above scenario. The only thing that does work is to scan to folder and have a shortcut of the PS driver in the folder. This way, users could just select the PDFs they scanned, drag and drop to the PS icon, and collect the prints. Another thought, if the customer needs to scan mixed batches, I am assuming letter and legal, then why recommend an MFP that will not automatically separate the image sizes? Doesn't this lead to more time wasted

Here's the issue.... we need to met a budget with mp2000spf, the one problem with the mp2000spf is that is will not copy mized size orginals, the customer intends to scan all documents anyway, so the thinking is to scan to a "hot folder" and then see if there is sometime of program that will print the file to a network mfp or printer asap, thus negating the need for copy of mixed size originals!

The only "hot folder" outside of EFI controller software that I am aware of is the "hot folder Print Queue when you PDF direct print." I don't believe this leads to automation of the process. If you shared a PS printer icon as a folder, you maybe able to print the scanned images if they always PDFs. I have not tried this, but I can this afternoon and see if it works. Basically, your going to scan to 2 destinations - a shared folder and a shared PS printer "icon". It sounds like it would

The problem that we are having with the E-8000 scanning is with FTP. Scan to Email seems to work fine but once it is set up for FTP the system tries to reboot itself no matter if you go to the scan or print tab. Has anyone experienced any issues scanning to FTP on the 8000? We have not been given any ETA on the new system software. Anyone know when this should be available?

How to Transform Yourself into A Solution Selling Guru! With the industry rapidly changing and the on-set on Direct Branches just moving boxes to capture clicks, it is essential that we transform to solution selling. So what is Solution Selling? Solution Selling can be a sale that incorporates a piece of hard with a software solution. It could be something as simple as a print driver setting that saves the customer time or something as elaborate as a Document Management Software application

Major Shift? Go to the Top If you are selling a service or product that causes a major shift in a corporation, then only sell to the top. A smart day-care center owner we know only markets to the presidents or CEOs of large corporations. Most large organizations don't want the "shift" and overhead of providing an in-house day-care center. Our entrepreneur proves to top management that she can provide them a needed service without a major shift.

My thoughts also, I recommended Tohoku,Ricoh manufacturing a 4 color version of the TCII almost four years ago, heck if they can make a TCII, they can make a TC IV. I also though of just having a plate maker (master maker), this would keep the cost down on the hardware. They must be thinking of something else, I beleive ink technology may have put the final nail in the coffin for digital duplicators.

Re: The World's First Duplex Printing Duplicator

I agree with Art. Tohoku is never going to listen to good common sense. Ricoh has left digital duplicating technology on the vine to die in the USA. What we have now is what we got. Make the most of it, inkjet technology is on the rise - just take a look at HP's Edgeline and Riso's ComColor......

Re: SR400 w/ Inserter ? ----Please Help

·
I think the question was whether it would do a 5.5'x8.5' insert. Obviously wouldn't staple it but will it insert a page that is 5.5"x 8.5. I personally think that a better idea regardless would be to insert a full 8.5x11 sheet with the other portions of the page printed with info that would be appropriate considering the placement of the insert.

Re: SR400 w/ Inserter ? ----Please Help

5050 (Guest) ·
I thought about that, but then there would be no need for an insert - you could just print the materials that you wanted in the first place and stich the whole document.Don't you think. I think I may be thinking about this to hard and am probably missing someting very basic.

Did Ricoh ever release the additional cabinet options that were rumored to be on their way? Right now, it seems that you have to add 2 or 3 trays to the standard unit to bring it up to an acceptable height. I haven't seen them in my latest price book, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist.

Well needed was the vacation I took last week for our Stratix President's Club event.  It was good to get back with management and all of the top performers for what could be my last Presidents Club event.

President's Club is not a given, getting to the club demands a lot of hard work along with the desire to be one of the best.  Is there some luck involved?  Damn straight there is because I've always lived by this motto. "the harder you work the luckier you get". Pretty much means that you create your own luck by your desire, dedication and determination to succeed.

Ricoh Agenda "What Happened"?

"A Driving Force" was the theme for Ricohs National Sales Meting in Dallas, Texas. First things first...my take on the meeting...curious, Ricoh was making every attempt to assure their dealers that they are their main concern and that there will be no more "new points" of distribution. They spoke about the consolidation of Lanier Direct to Ricoh Direct and also the merger of Lanier and Gestetner Dealers to for a new National Network that will distribute Lanier Branded Systems and Solutions

So, what to do when your client won't make the DMAP1 purchasing commitment. There's no good solution, because of Ricoh's chargeback policy and commitment level. Ever since they went from 9 levels to 6 and put a minimum commitment on level 1, "smaller majors" are SOL. My DSM told me flat-out that they wanted to discourage handling ship-outs for smaller

I'm actually trained on these products. It's about two weeks of my life I will never get back. It's 750 pounds of cast aluminum. It's not easy to move. It comes in a wooden "tuff shed". Special shipping kits are required to move the machine without damaging the print heads. It's a variable speed copier. It can do anywhere from 10 to 71 copies a minutes depending on paper, coverage and humidity. It uses two windows based computers to run it. It's about a 3-4 minute "boot" time to warm up

Can we help Warren beat a KIP 3000?

Art Post (Guest) ·
Art, I notice you went to the Monster show on wide format. That has not come to the midwest (Minneapolis) yet. I am losing a 240W to the Kip 3000 with enbedded controller. A key point for them that we both can do is the printing without opening and scanning of autocad format files. That is what eliminated the Xerox. They will give me one more chance to show the advantages of the 240W. What would you suggest? Sincerely, Warren Erickson

My DSM said she is losing $1.2 Million/month in revenue. I personally feel that there is a reason that those customers aren't with Xerox to begin with and unless Xerox makes major changes in the way they do business, all these customers will eventually leave. If I had the money, I would start a dealership in a current Global hotspot and target the customer-base.

I also don't answer questions about duplexing or collating until this time. If they ask about duplexing before I'm ready to address it, I say it will do unlimited duplexing and then wait for a more appropriate time to come back to it and explain how it is done.
