Not to insult my Ricoh sales brethren but as a longtime ComDoc employee/owner the overwhelming majority of the people here look at this as a very, very positive thing. Things had not been so peachy since the Ikon aquisition with a general feeling of being the redheaded step child in regards to support (and possibly pricing) from Ricoh. Just the thought of not having to deal with the RMAP process gets me pretty excited. Only time will tell. I will say that it was amazing how little time it took

"It is fact that as Ricoh did indeed lay off employees, they went out and purchased IKON." Yes, but which logical fallacy is occuring? Is it post hoc, where we falsely assume that because B followed A, A must have caused B, or is it Joint Effect, where B is held to have been caused by A when in fact A and B were the joint effects of another cause? If Xerox had 3,000 ineffective workers, and it's hard to imagine a Fortune 500 company that doesn't, then the layoffs were appropriate. If ComDoc was

Well, almost right and proves my point, that the money came from the manufacturer and not the subsiderary (I know I butchered that). But, Ricoh did not lay off three thousand workers in order to do the Ikon deal. The point is the economy is a tough issue right now, if the pockets run that deep at Xerox, I think they could have held on the employees and made the purchase! I'm more concerned about

I don't think it's appropriate to view the ComDoc acquisition as somehow counter to the spirit of the 3,000 jobs eliminated by Xerox. Xerox is prudent to eliminate positions that efficiency has made unnecessary, and to spend funds to grow the business by acquisition. I cut the grass in my front yard and water the vegetables in the back, but that is not an inconsistent strategy.

"Well. what if Ricoh laid off 3,000 workers and and IKON (a Ricoh company) went out and bought a 150 million dealer?" That would be similar. Ricoh, in their judgment, would have identified 3,000 employees who represented more cost than value. And Ikon would have found a $150M dealer it could buy for less than it's future value. It would represent at best two independent good business decisions, and at worst a trade-off... let's cut 3,000 overhead positions and add $150MM in revenue...

Network Printers by SMB Path

I've always been puzzled when I work with IT guys who are obviously more knowledgable than me and we are working through adding a network printer when they select "network printer" instead of "local printer" and creating an IP port. I normally interject that I do it this way and they concede in doing it my way. Does anyone know if there are benefits to setting up a printer in this manner (\\printername\printermodel for port)? I haven't found any advantages, but I can think of a few negatives

Thought I would share this with everyone, I found this over the weekend while surfing the web: Don't Nickel & Dime the Client In executive sales training, the ultimate first goal of your sale should be a WIN for your client. Your client must feel they is getting a great value for his money. Believe it or not, most clients like to deal with someone who is successful and don’t mind paying for this extra service they provide. Here’s a great example: The company I worked for once bought a copier

The average C-PAP salesman sells about 30 machines per month and makes $100 per machine. This means that they bring home around $3,000 or so per month. Tony, on the other hand sells about 18

Assume Content

Whatever automotive sales training may have taught you in the past about the assume consent close, I challenge you to keep an open mind about the new look and feel of the close as described here. First, let’s look at the past ‘assume consent’ close and how it was used. Long ago, prospects were not as educated as they are today. Car salespeople were also not as respected as they are today. The single most important point of a close, back then, was to get the objection out so you could cover it

The print card that was originally with the unit has a serial number that any print, pdf, or scan oprions originally purchased are tied to (via the serial number). That card is worth $1500 - $3000. It's worth tracking down if possible. Otherwise, I think "wide format guy" or Ratio America (http://www.ratioamerica.com) might be able to help you with a print card and options.

I have had my fair share of Wells Fargo. I don't have any business with them now for that sole reason of the Letter of Intents. The only way my "former" customer could get out of the WF lease was to take them to small claims court. I learned a valuable lesson that the customer expects the salesperson to handle any and all questions from the leasing company. If the customer did not do what you told them to do on sending the letter in, it is still the salesperson's fault. If you want to keep

Not sure if this would help, but: Since SP2 was released, it is necessary to put a port exception into windows firewall (TCP and UDP 3670) for ScanRouter to work. It may be as simple as that if you haven't done so, do thist first and test. Second, I'd try to get in contact with the person who set up the network. After you install the printer on a server you share it the use the syntax to connect to it as \\servername\printer name. You can even email a link to everyone within the organization to install it. The end user simply click's the link and they are prompted to install it with one click. Hope this makes sense.

It is and I see it everywhere and mostly from Direct branches. We can't do it and management will never do it. Too me, this is a deal breaker in most P4P accounts. It's too bad that Dealers subsidize the Direct Branches. Maybe emails to top Management at Ricoh, Canon, KonicaMinolta and Xerox will shed light on this. Who knows maybe someone is keeping them in the dark?

Over the past few years, I have seen the local Canon direct office proposing single click for 11 x 17 for both black and color, and it has always been somewhat difficult to overcome. This afternoon, I met w/ a current client of mine that has proposals in hand from a Global (Xerox) dealer, an independent Canon dealer, KMBS, Danka, a Sharp dealer and 2 Konica dealers, all of which are proposing single click for 11 x 17. How do you all overcome this, and how many of your dealerships have adopted

The surprise in this particular account is that only 1 of the competitors is a Direct branch, because we previously only saw it from the local Canon branch. So far, the only thing we've tried to do is lose the competition money if we lose out by telling the customer to print everything 2 up and buy a cutter from us to cut those documents. Have you been able to overcome this in order to win a transaction?

Yup, I agree with the color scenario! It's hard to beat, almost impossible. The only way is that hopefully manufacturers will develop print only devices with fiery again. I must be missing something, but I don't see where this post is pointing fingers at Lanier. We were a Savin and Ricoh dealer for 16 years, but last year Ricoh took away our Ricoh line because we could not continue to meet quotas for both Ricoh & Savin.

John....what advantages were there to be both a Savin and Ricoh dealer....am I missing something?

Re: Ricoh cuts Jobs

At one time we were also both a Savin and Ricoh dealer. The advantages we found were having two support structures, "another line" we could submit as a "competing bid", and simply having a second line. Surprisingly, I spoke to some customer who told me "I'll never have another Ricoh in this building, I hate them! oh, Savin? sure, that's fine" and vice versa.

Re: Ricoh cuts Jobs

We had those same issues of customers not wanting this line or that line, and remember at one time the serial number plates had one for Ricoh and one for Savin, so you couldn't order one machine and put a different sticker on it as you can now. Our main issue was we didn't want another dealer to move in and compete for the Major Account deals. But as you said, there were two structures you had to deal with.

I had heard before Savin had Aficio League points and spiffs, there system were substanstially lower than Ricoh boxes.

Re: Ricoh cuts Jobs

Savin had signed us up at their 5+ pricing so yes we did get lower pricing than Ricoh. The only way Ricoh would give us lower than 1st column was to sign up on the commitment programs. The boss didn't want to because if the quota's weren't met, then we would be charged back for the difference.
Reply

Re: Ricoh cuts Jobs

·
As for substantially lower pricing, I wouldn't say that much, but it was an advantage over Ricoh without signing a commitment form. Savin didn't use the Aficio League points like Ricoh did, but they did offer a credit card program that was similar to Aficio League points but the points were put on the credit card as 1 point for 1 dollar. Credit limit on the credit card was $50 that you had to pay back, but points were not paid back, but could be used to pay a balance on the credit limit.

Lanier and Savin dealers left to compete for SBM's. My two cents worth.

If you are using smart device monitor port and the printer is shared, when an error occurs, the notification will go back to the "print server" machine. I would not recommend using the smart device monitor port, but choosing a TCP/IP port and seeing if that resolves the problem. You may also be able to go to the "print server" if you are using one and a smart device monitor port and see if there are any error notifications.

Canon is moving forward with an ink-based A3 MFP. My opinion is that the market will accept the product and features faster than A4 products. Big changes coming to the marketplace when machines that require less service hit the market.

As much as I am not a fan of A4, but realizing it’s our necessary evil, I hope they do. The A4 has for the most part killed it for us as sales people. We have to sell many more units to make the same revenue....revenue, I say....profit margin is good for the most part, but we still have to sell more united to keep everyone happy. Was the worst thing a manufacturer could do in my opinion.

This looks like it is just the Canon version of the HP engine they OEM for them so yes I would expect to see a colour one HP deployed thousands of M630’s (predecessor) at one of my customers doing big volumes - pretty robust Will be interesting to see how much longer the HP relationship with canon goes on..

Manufacturer Support on Bids

·
How is everyone's support from their manufacturer on bids? I am noticing that it seems they do not want to mess with them anymore. We were starting to work on a 40 machine RFP for a fairly large organization. Call my Konica rep and he looks over the RFP and tells me "fantastic, use your dealer pricing".....I said no you need to go and get some pricing support and he said there won't be any extra support. Canon is the same way. Unless its over 250,000 they say there's your price book, use it. I

Rumor has it that Canon is not going to take the new game changer product through the BTA dealers. Not good.

As far as I know, Ricoh still draws the line at $100,000. The amount of support may vary based on the equipment mix and time of year.

Been ages since I posted anything on here! Jason, back in the day for me Canon didn't do anything unless it was minimum $50k wholesale. KM on the other hand was extremely aggressive with doing whatever was needed to get our wholesale price down. We also had afantasticdealer account manager though who would go to bat for us every time. In a RFP situation, you would think they would understand that you are dropping your margins or more than you expect the manufacturer to. "Where there's a will

I think that all may change with the Big Dog (Canon) coming to market with a great machine. Hey, we ain't talking HP Edgeline. The machine will fit in SMB and it looks similar to other machines.
