Ricoh is going to relabel the Toshiba 31 ppm color for our graphics color system, PERIOD. It is going to be the new 31 which will replace their current 30 ppm color system with improvements. Greg: The new 2232 and he 2238, are actually improvements to the CL7000 and that engine. The only answer Ricoh has for cycling problem for the 1224 and 1232 is the discontinuation of the product once stock has been depleted (this is the reason there are extra spiffs for the 1224/32 in the states). we brought toshiba 310c and 210c on 3 months ago. GREAT product. I did this because Ricoh shows no committment to that end, graphic color. The 6513 is great, but too slow, bla bla bla, fuser, bla bla bla, oil bla bla. I tell you what, we'll roll 10 / 15 systems within 6 - 9 months. If my tech can't be proficient - then we need to talk. Also, the Toshiba uses replaceable fuser and transer belt systems, so bench tech in office can get you up and going. Just makes sense. Don't let a good thing

I can tell you that the 9000MFP is not a good deal. My Church here in Boise was given one of these on the pre-launch Delta program that HP has. This machine has had so many problems, not to mention the slow FCO time, but also the poor technical support from HP. The Saddle Stitch finisher has never quite worked right either. I have a Brother fax 560, and it uses the thermal imaging rolls. I just had to recieve a fax at my home office and noticed the thermal roll ribbon was expired. I had to "re-roll" the thermal ribbon to get my fax (yes, I'm thrifty). I got the fax in and the print was horrendus because of re-using the the thermal ribbon!. However, here's what I noticed. Your comments are well taken, the 1224 and 1232 should be capable of producing 100 copies or prints at a time without going into some sort of cycle. Does anyone know if the CL5000 goes through the same cycles as the 1224/32 when printing 100 pages of color? I only have two in the field in my territory. Back Up Doc Server

Question: Has anyone heard or know how to back up the files in document server. Currently, the customer has a Ricoh 1035-P with know scan option. The customer, manually scanned 200 documents. Just recently, the hard drive of the copier crashed and had to be formatted. All the data was lost. Can anyone help. Answer: Document can be pulled from the Document Server using Desktop Binder into a Folder, then saved to the computer hard drive.

Can't believe the customer got me on this one, said they had been getting pricing on similar units. They mentioned the Xerox 425, Sharp 277 and the iR2200. Xerox was so low it was a crime! First, what 50cpm Toshiba color are y'all talking about? I can't find a 50cpm Toshiba color on their website or in the books. The only 50cpm colors I can find are Canon and Konica. Second, Toshiba makes SHARP's 55-65-80 cpm B/W, not the other way around.

Jayson has it right, we will have a 50ppm copier/printer from Toshiba and a new 32 and 28 ppm copier/printer (ricoh OEM) with saddle stitcher. Rumor has it Ricoh is going to drop the 1224 and 1232 from the line up as soon as inventory has been depleted. This is due to the excessive cycling of the equipment (there is no fix).

Had streampunch installed on our demo room machine for "2 days" ran about 1,000 punches worked great! Customer is running 2-2105 tandem and each machine runs approximately 350-450,000/month; approx. 10-15% 19 hole punched. I think they are still finding "chads" on the floor even though we have removed it from the unit. Still no word from Ricoh nor GBC on "the fix". Hoping for the latter part of the week for a reply. Side note: does Canon IR105 offer same GBC unit or none at all?

I heard we will have 2 new BW and color machines 1st qtr. They will be based on a" copier version of the CL7000 engine"(not the 1224/32) but have some new features and ACS(finally). Also heard we will have a 35ppm color and BW printer (no copier????) sometime around March. I was told the CL 7000 series will be repositioned.

Just an opinion but while their faxes are great low end machines, from what I see their color printers will not run as reliable as I think a printer should. their warranty for replacement boards is very good but you cannot even order parts from their web site. As for parts sometimes I wait for weeks for a common gear or motor. In a low volume enviroment say 200 prints a month there okay. I like their price point and their dot printers, their faxes and low end printers. Just one persons opinion

On the main topic page of this board there is a section called Connectivity and Technical Services under that section you will find a section specically devoted to AS400. As of this time there is no IPDS firmware module (needed for AS400 printing) for the 2035/45. Ricoh is hinting that it is in the works. It could be out sooner or later. My sales month ended today, thus allowing time for our beloved bean counters the chance to close the month on the calendar end of month. don't mind and I'm kind of use to it. I figure that closing the month early gives me two end of the month chances to close some orders. Of course one is our actual close and the other is calendar end of month. December this year is a little frightening since Christmas falls on a Tuesday. Which means most will not be working on the 24th. Thus December only gives me 19 selling days compared to the average month that has 22 selling days. It's GO time!

If you use Savin, Gestetner or Lanier RPCS drivers on a Ricoh device the accessories/paper trays will not be automatically configured even with a SmartNet port. The problem is in the 'Plug And Play" name in the SP Mode. If it is Ricoh in 'Plug And Play Name" and the driver is Savin it will not communicate correctly with the driver.

Mu understanding is that the IS100e will work with any printer that has a parallel printing capability. The claim to fame of the IS100e is that it connects to the parallel port of the CL 3000 and CL 5000, well it should work with the 3800, 3850, 7000 and all of the others. I know I had the bypass set for 5.5x8.5 thick because I was printing a number of postcards, I don't remember if I had to manually set the paper size for the bypass at the copy machine when I printed the envelopes... I did send the job from MSWORD to print the envelopes from the bypass and all went well. Try it, it'll work, if the machine tells you to change the paper size in the bypass, then you will know for sure. BUT I DO KNOW FOR A CERTAINTY, the envelopes printed great without any

I have a customer that has a 1027 now. They want to add machines, i.e. 2027's and 2035's etc. They need to know if the machines will allow LAN-Faxing if they are using a NT 4.0 Terminal Server. The only drivers listed under the download is for PCL6 & PCL5e. Could they use the NT 4.0 LAN-Fax Driver on the server? Also, there is no NT 4.0 Terminal Server drivers under the 2035/2045 drivers, and I would guess there won't be any under the 2022/27's when they are finally on the Ricoh website

My only input is that I have never been able to consistantly get envelopes to print from a copier very well. Regardles of how it is spec'd out, I always tell my customers that it is in their best interest to make sure that they print envelopes from a regular printer and not their copier. I do have a handful who print envelopes from the copier (including 1224-32 series systems, but they deal with the occasional jams etc and understand it) Hope that helps! Graham

I have had GREAT success with envelopes on the C2408SP (1224SP) - I didn't do a merge, but I printed many envelopes through word using the bypass. No wrinkles. I run them through bottom first with the flap open.

I don't have my demo machine anymore, sold it, we were printing 5.5" x 8.5" heavy stock and had the bypass set for this ... I am not sure now if I had to change the paper size at the copy machine for the bypass, I do know that I sent the job from MS WORD, both from Tools/Envelopes and Labels and by creating an envelope size document (so I could add color graphics to my envelope) and they printed out without a problem.

That's one reason we took on Canon. We can have the machine in 48hrs or less from the Dallas warehouse, or we can drive there and pick it uup same day if needed. Ricoh screwed all the people in Texas when they closed the Dallas warehouse. We used to get stuff in about 2 days or less and could drive to pick it up if we needed. Now with our stuff coming from Tennesse, we wait at least 4-5 days for shipping.

I always use SMN for Client when setting up drivers. This one really bugs me. Also, we did not get any print drivers with our 2022. We are still not getting print driver CD's with our 35's & 45's. Is anyone getting the CD's with their 35/45's? How about Lanier and Savin & Gestetner's? Do they come with the print driver CD's?

I was trying to set up the 2022 we got in today, and I can't get it to staple. The machine has the 500 sheet finisher. I had to load the drivers from the Savin and Gestetner websites (Ricoh doesn't have them yet). I loaded the RPCS and PCL. When I loaded the RPCS drivers, it said I had to configure the accessories (I thought that the driver did that). Anyway, I checked all the boxes, went to staple, and it was grayed out. Very well done! We are a Ricoh, RISO dealer and this is very consistent with our practices in Pennsylvania. We can often over deliver and will do whatever is necessary to include some sort of a loaner, but the rep had better have a good reason and not make it a habit. Gentlemen, my VP of Sales implemented a policy of a monthly equipment forecast w/ product codes so that he could properly inventory those forecasted products so we didn't have the typical month-end scramble for equipment. I have NEVER had good luck getting any machine to staple or punch using RPCS unless I am using it with SmartNet for Client using a SmartNet Port (Not a Standard TCP/IP Port). FYI, SeriPrint is compatible with JP5000/5500/8000/8500/TC2 only. When tied into the SeriPrint system, the unit is no longer able to print with the standard emulsified ink offering, as the SeriPrint unit has top mounted rollers at its' exit section, which would cause surface trailing as the emulsified ink would not have enough time to dry. Mind you, who would want to print with "dry-time consuming" inks when you can print with something that dries instantaneously, when "flashed" with UV? Great

Additional info for you... In Citrix, printing is OK. Usually Citrix is running in an environment where Windows is running in the back ground. Printing is no problem. Scanning is out. Unless you set up a separate PC with Scan Router and to that PC you scan what you want. If Citrix can see the folders on that PC, it can access the images. Fax will only work in Windows.

Yes you can! We did this about 9 months ago for a church. Just touched base with our service manager and besides removing the lower drawer, there is a paper tray control board in the lower tray that is still required after you remove it, and he said there is room to reposition it somewhere else in the system. All you are doing is changing the delivery system by which the documents get from paper form to electronic form. I've done the 2035's. If they want to view them on the web browser, you have to set the machine up to store instead of print the faxes. This setup in under the Fax function in the User Tools. Then all you have to do is type in the IP address in your browser and it will find the machine. Select the fax, and then you can view the stored faxes.

I called Ricoh pre-sales support and the person I spoke with said "no" after they put me on hold for a while trying to figure out what it was ... then they told me "no" based on the fact that they could not find a TWAIN driver for it on the Ricoh website ... so ... it does have TWAIN ... that means I can select it as a scanner in programs such as Adober Acrobat and/or ScanSoft OmniPage ... yes??? Pete from RBS here in Jersey killed em with this whe they were looking for a segment 5 replacement ( I gave him the idea ). I told him to show the customer a graph of how many placements Toshiba has compared to Ricoh. Toshiba was less than 3% were Ricoh was over 40%. I am having a really hard time getting a straight answer concerning whether or not there is a need to add memory to the print/scan kit. The Configurator says that 256MB is highly recommended but not a must. The systems ship with 64MB and 128MB is added to the kit, correct? Will the units print and scan with this amount of memory? If not, why isn't the kit equipped with the correct amount of memory? What happens to the 128MB DIMM when the 256MB is added?

The problem we encountered was printing "Scanned" PDF images. We encountered this problem on a 2090 with the print/scan board with postscript. Ricoh tested some sample files we sent them and they encountered the same issues. I feel like the new external fiery will solve the problem (Micropress as well).

We had a major problem with the 2090 and PostScript. We had one with the SR90 Booklet finisher that wouldn't work. The machine and booklet maker worked fine with the PCL and RPCS drivers, but when they used the postscript drivers with the normal finisher attached it worked fine. When they connected the SR90, the postscript drivers left the machine, and the machine registered as if the postscript was not on the Print Controller. The trade-up bonus that Ricoh gives us on the 1055 & 1060 is $600 for stand alone and $900 for connected if you are replacing competitive machines. The 1075 is $1,000 and $1,500 respectively for competative machines. You get a $1,200 trade-up for the 1075 only against Ricoh Base machines whether it's connectd or not. There are no laser based wide format color systems out there from the major manufacturers. If there are, they are price prohibitive. What your customer would find would be a couple of systems to meet his or her needs. Oce has a TCS400 system which is a separate scanner, controller and printer. Can Anyone help this guy? I have an order in for a Ricoh JP3000 Digital Duplicator. The machine is in and all accessories, but the color drums are on backorder. It has been over a month now and still cannot get an ETA on them. At this point the customer is getting very upset and I cannot get any support from Ricoh. Anyone experiencing the same issue with the color drums or does anyone know how to get 3 of them?

Also keep in mind that not only are they saving administrative costs, but they are also charging their clients for the service which they will probably continue to do. The combination of these two factors may be able to make a case for a 2090 when the volume only necesitates a 2045.

FYI on the 2090/2105 Bate Stamping Solution. You cannot currently have both the Bate Stamping and Scanning available at the same time. They end up being mutually exclusive. Ricoh is trying to create a workaround or resolution.

Hello Neighbor, The only product in our toolbox which can accomplish this task is the Ricoh Aficio 2090 with a software upgrade patch of some sort as it relates to product. There may be a software solution that enables to the sequential bates stamping from the PC, from the scanned image. Hopefully, someone else can shed light on this topic.

You need to go to the P4P sight and do a word search. There have been several discussions regarding Bate Stamping. In a nutshell, the 2090 and the 2105 are the only units with Bate Stamping from Ricoh or anyone else. However, we have successfully sold "Bate Stamping" on lessor units using a compination of User Stamp and Page Numbering. The best way to accomplish this is to get a sample from them and then replicate it it for them on the 2045. Don't try to do it for the first time in their office

A customer has tried to run the Avery #5884 gloss stock on the 1224SP and has failed. Smearing and dark bands. I suggested that the customer change the paper setting to "cardstock", change the quality to "High" and select the "DTP" quality setting. Graham, I believe that they would not be able to print directly from autocad unless they converted the files to a .plt extension. I am not sure if the postscript option will allow you to print direct without the file conversion. I have autocad lite 2000 on my laptop and could send you a few .plt files. All you have to do to convert the files to that format is check the plot to file box in autocad when you are printing. It will create a PLT file instead of a DWG file and you should be able to do

You need to make sure that you have the PostScript option installed. You will not be able to print from the DOC server or use anything like scan router, DTB etc. Just remember, all of the applications that come with it are windows based and all you can really do is print and scan to email if their network will support it. You will have to install the accessories manually and then you can use them. Otherwise, that should be the only major thing

So what scanning do you have, just Twain? Also, do you have any job binder type features or not? The network right now is one mac with a color laser printer connected with a USB cable. I will have to get them to run a crossover CAT5 cable so they can print directly to the 1060 without setting up a router etc.

I think that may be the better solution Art. Lately I have been doing just the opposite of what we have been pitching for so many year and placing low volume copiers with mid to high volume printers. The cost is much lower so you can stack in extra GP. Most people are electronicly generation most of their documents anyway. DigiPath is Xerox's software for editing and controlling (scanned) jobs for the DocuTech platform, much like the recent Job-Q-editor software from ATI/Ricoh is for the 2090/2105 family. Docushare is a (simple) knowledge sharing software, which holds scanned pages and make them searchable and shareable. The latter is a good marketing selling point, helping Xerox delivering a broad soloutionbase towards the customer. It is not very sophisticated however.

You don't lose ALL of the functionality with the PS driver, just the Doc Server and Locked print options. All the finishing is there, it is just a little tricky to get to.

I have a 1232 (C3210 Savin) in a clients since beginning of June. So far they have averaged 13,000 B&W per month ... so far so good (I have nighmares about it though) ... I have told them several times to move the B&W volume to the Aficio 551, they can't seem to get the staff to take the 20 second walk to it though. We have had to empty the color waste toner container twice since June, I think they have only done about 14,000 color developments.

Below is probably one of the most mis-understood printers (well not actually a printer) of our time. The Seri Print 25 was a really cool in-line attachment to the Ricoh duplicators. You would replace the Ricoh ink with Seri Ink, and then you'd be able to print on any gloss coatings. The Seri printer used a UV light to cure the ink on the gloss coat. Alas the Seri is no more and Ricoh is just about out of the duplicator industry now.

We are installing our first Ricoh Aficio 2090 WITH SR90 Booklet maker today. It is subject to running the clients job twice. That's two runs of 125 11x17 booklets, totaling 15 sheets each, 60 to 64 images including cover. This could be a good success story that was up against Xerox and OCE. Got my fingers crossed, it ran well when we set it up in the warehouse after getting through a couple of set up glitches that were probably just first time issues...

I am working with a VAR who is currently sending information via VIPP to a Xerox laser printer. He asked if the same solution can be done with the 2090. My customer is running XP Pro and printing to the 1232C with the PCL5c driver. When he prints from Word, in some places the spaces between text is removed and some of the text has an overstrike onto other text. The document doesn't look that way before it is printed and it doesn't do this with the RPCS driver. Any clues?

He said it "ain't" Bate Stamping from Copier mode. Probably what the Seller is going to do is have them scan in the docs, and include a software program with the machine that will allow Bate Stamping when they print. Jeff said it took over 20 months of R&D to get the 2090 to Bate Stamp. For the 1060/1075 to do it, they would almost have to go back to the drawing board and write a program for those machines from scratch. So...don't hold your breath.

When I pulled the BERTL report one of the big drawbacks listed was "no copier concurrency meaning that if the device is carrying out a copy/print/fax or scan job the device is effectively frozen for other copy, scan or fax users." Does this mean if a customer scans in a 50 page fax job that the job has to be completely sent before other jobs can be run? Or does it just mean there is no pre-scan feature. These seem like pretty strong and cheap machines

Printer Scanner upgrade for 1035P

Anyone upgraded a 1035 with printing and scanning and want to sell the print/scan dimm? I have sold a 1035P and must have lost my mind when I thought I could buy just the scan dimm. Now I am sort of stuck in a situation with a gov't acct. and need to give them scanning without losing my hat. It has been a long time since I made this kind of mistake and they thought they were getting scanning at the P.O. price. Thanks for any sympathy, John

The IR 105 can't reliably run cardstock through the bypass. It keeps jamming at the feed rollers. I just had a customer who has 2 IR105's And bought our 2610 printer for a monthly run of 1000 custom size cards that are about 90#index. It's funny how Canon reps used to push the fact that they can run 110# through the trays????

Just a guess, but you may want to make sure the postscript option is installed. I have 2 customers that would like to print from Pagemaker, but they are having problems. They both have the Postscript option, which has not solved thier issue and Ricoh is of no help.

In the last three weeks. I have sold a 2105 and a 2090 and beat Canon! Then our last 1105, promptly squashing another Canon! An then another 2105 w/MP SX, Bookletmaker, Trimmer, Interposer and Jogger plus CL7000 thus eliminating another Canon possibility! Art

E-copy was just a way to get push scan to email/computer/etc. before Canon figured out how to get it into the copier without a seperate monitor and computer. The canon i models are less expensive than adding e-copy. E-copy does offer a little more user friendly applications, but I can not justify the cost versus an "i" model copier. Hope this helps.

If you use a print server through the parallel port, you will lose all of your network functionality (smartnet, scanning and the such). Most companies that are still on token ring have some sort of provision for ethernet devices, I would check for that as well.

I heard a rumor from a reliable source last week that Ricoh will end it relationship with EFI in the very near future and the fiery for the 2090/2105 will be the last EFI product on a Ricoh system. I also heard that Ricoh would be developing their own front-end for future products. Anybody else heard these rumors?
