This Week in the Copier Industry 5 Years Ago (Third Week of December 2014)

It's late Friday night on the 20th.  I have one more selling day left in the month, which is Monday. I think I've hit my annual budget, however as we all know to well those numbers can change. Thus Monday I'll be back at it trying get one or two additional orders to make it happen.  I picked up a nice order this afternoon for one of the new Ricoh IM 600SRFs.  Yes, they had an A3 device and I sold them an A4, it was the logical and right thing to do.  See that @Ray Stasiezcko

on our B2C products you can send a print job to it and there is an SP code that will tell you what the coverage amount is for each color. Of the ones that I have run they have all been between 9% and 13% when you add the total of the 4 colors. Usually with black only it is closer to the 10% level. Frankly, I don't have to make the mfp look better if I am doing my job right I am also replacing the hp printers with my gestetners. If all I am looking at is to place mfp's I will never gain TDV

Just got time to visit the posts. Actually you can find it tough to compete with this Sharp model. Probably it's only real weakness is you can't add an LCT and have 4 trays as the LCT mounts under the unit where the 2 additionla trays go. We handle both Rioch and Sharp and our techs tell us they'll take the Sharp over a 2035 anyday...that's tough to deal with. The previous model had some quirks with the softwrae...couldn't turn off collate, no rotate sort, couldn't do slip sheets in copy

Xerox Is Dreaming In Color

Canon Inc. (CAJ ) is No. 1 in mass-market copiers that handle both color and black and white. Ricoh (RICOY ), Toshiba (TOSBF ), and Konica Minolta are competitive, too. And Hewlett-Packard Co. Jason is correct in how to resize the drawing. It should also be to scale and I would suggest as he said to let them measure with a ruler and confirm. As to highlighting a certain area of the document and printing only that portion, that can be done in the scantools by scanning the document as a tiff and opening up the editor. Once open you can crop and save as the new document which contains only the portion you wish to print. Just go to add an entry in plotbase and find the new tiff file

from what I see, we have a network of dealers that we do business with. They ship systems into our territory, we ship them to theirs. In the past at least for Ricoh there was a DMAP program. Not sure if it still exists, problem was that Ricoh was giving that service to Ricoh Business Systems. Thus before the company I work for was bought, we would make or own contacts and work out our own deals. Note: If you did not specify a servicing dealer with your DMAP order then Ricoh Business Systems

I do a lot of this. I avoid like the plague using Ricoh Direct. I take the time to locate a Ricoh Family Group Independent Dealer, I send for signature an Inner-territorial agreement that spells out the who, what, and where's as well as the how much. Ricoh has established maintenance minimums and I find that as long as I am above that everything goes smoothly. When you place the order you designate the servicing dealer and Ricoh ships the unit to them and deposits the installing dealer credits

@ Color1 Is this a Xerox agent or Authorized Dealer? If it is an agent then I don't see how they are doing it since Xerox sets the pricing and handles all of the maintenance. They would never do a all bw page included deal under the Xerox mother ship. I have seen this with a local competitor (dealer) in my area. They simply play the odds and add the projected monthly black and white clicks into the lease. The whole unlimited "free black and white" sounds so good until you start calculating the

This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago (Last Week of October 2004)

@Old Glory Posted this 15 years ago.

Brian Tracy says in The Effective Manager, that "change is accelerating." I believe that, do you? What does that mean to you? You know the old saying, "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always have what you always had." I don't think that is true anymore. If you always do what you've always done, you will continually have less and less. If we are not consciously getting better, we are unconsciously getting worse. In our business, if you are not growing, you are being passed by more competent and better educated competition.

NO - You cannot merge the jobs into "sets" that can be sorted. If you hold CTRL and click on multiple documents, they will all print, but they will not come out sorted. If I asked for 3 copies, I'd get 3 copies of the first page, 3 copies of the second page, etc., etc. You can create a set to be collated, but the way to do this is to plot the files to disk, then create a job in Plotbase and add all the plots you need in this set to the job. Then you can select number of copies, select "collated

Just an FYI that I stumbled upon while creating a job in Plotclient WIN. When you hilight a group of prints to add to the job, they DO NOT drop into the job in the same order. If you are collating and need them in the exact order, you need to drop one file at a time into the job to insure correct order. If anyone has found that this is not true, please let me know. Thanks. thanx for the great info! i was at an account today that needed to "reprint" exiting .plt files. I tried to add them into plotclient, however I was given an error message. quote: Unknown or not licensed file type)file C:\program Files RW-240-240 Plotbase\ss\1041\04-075A-100-plans-A-101.plt.1056.000000 whew! I then found by mistake that I could add these files to Scan Tools and was able to print them in a collated set! Can anyone elaborate as to why this happened? Thanx

Thanks Pete. The really funny thing is that I spoke to my Savin dealer rep on the same day you posted this info and he told me that there was absolutely NO information available about the new products and none would be released until the launch of the 51 ppm system in November. Re: T-shirt transfer sheets

We used to use a media called "Fabrika" Tee-shirt Transfer material, when we were carrying the Toshiba Chromotouch copier. However, it was a wax transfer machine, didnt use a fuser. And a fuser is the biggest obstacle in this application. I mean these things rip up bad when using anything that turns sticky.

Re: AP4510 prints 10 jobs only

Yes, the hard drive is installed, but I was told that you can only send lock print jobs and sample print jobs to the printer. Another thing, I cant send the jobs as locked prints because there are about 6000 jobs to print each job is 2 to 3 pages long, and as I understand it if you send the jobs as a locked print job you have to stand by the printer and release each one, one by one. Jay: Thank you for your information. It seems it would have been better (on many fronts)for Ricoh to have simply modified an SR840/841 to accept interchangeable punch dies. Their 2/3-hole punch is the best in the business. Even if they improve the reliability of the Streampunch, due to it's complicated paper path, it will never be as good as it could have been...Over-engineered!

Sorry - I haven't check in in awhile. We had installed beta firmware that allowed simultaneous usage of the interposer and the streampunch, but removed it because we thought it was causing other problems. We now think those problems are caused by another issue, known to GBC and Ricoh but no release date offered for the fix. We may re-install the firmware to further test its performance if we get the other issue resolved. Ron

Re: MICR Toner for the AP4510

Incorrect. MICR toner can be used in dual component machines, like the Hitachi DDP90. Don't forget that copy process to a point forces/ pushes toner from the DV roller to the drum. And we've all seen machine faults where the DV has been pulled from the DV unit. However MICR is specialist and not currently supported by Ricoh.

But, I think this may be an ongoing thing. MS updates their OS and Ricoh has to create a firmware update and the cycle repeats. A good reason for customers to purchase network support agreements from copier companies. But, Ricoh has to get on the ball. If we can have a solution to offer, it's an easy sell.

Jim - I only get this report when I scream loud enough to our corporate office about backorders (like I've been screaming about the 240W). I will make available every time I see one. I think...our purchasing agent gets this info from our East Region Allocations people at Ricoh - I would think they would provide this info to anybody on an allocations list for backorders?

Newer machines can intergrate the modem into their system which in on the network. Ex.
