I have a weird situation at a long term customer's office. They have 2 Savin C9120s and 1 Savin 8025. They were all scanning to email. Now the C9120s can connect to the mail server and the memory goes back to 100% when sending email. However, the recipient never receives the email. Art, it's a part of the industry that I doubt you will get rid of. I would like to add my own "observation". I don't think that 99.9% of dealers do a good deal. If 99.9% was the case these instances would not even be noticed because they would be unheard of. I think the reality is that around 60-70% of dealers are OK. Another point is that the leasing companies do not give a damn about the state of the copier at the end of a lease. As long as the customer has made all the payments they're happy

I totally agree with you on this one. As of this morning I am seeing the new CW2200 as it is being setup, I am thinking, is this the best that Ricoh can come up with? In my opinion it will only cheapen the Ricoh name with this unit that looks like it is several different pieces that are now married together to create this unit. One of the biggest obstacles up until recently, was having to answer to a Sales Manager, who was totally incompetent, and the micro management he adopted in trying to gain kudos with management for his failure to produce a winning team formula was ridiculous. Fortunately, they have since given him the boot, and life is starting to get back to normal.

The Samsung machines are very impressive. I am not an easy person to impress. Great touchscreen and the menus make sense to the customer. Searchable PDF, OCR and a workflow app similar to DigiDocFlow right out of the box. The machines are well built on par or better than anything competitors like Sharp or Toshiba have out there. They really do have a lot to offer and the pricing is incredible. We brought on Samsungas our secondary line. As for Ricoh, I hope they step it up on the dealer side

Sorry Grant but I have to call you out.It is a big mistake for salespeople to assume that what is true in their case, is true across the board. It causes the salesrep to make mistakes in judgement and may cause them to unintentionally misinform their prospect. Anything that isn't required by law is negotiable and therefore will vary from lease company to lease company and dealer to dealer. So two dealers using the same lease company may have negotiated different terms.

Here's the math: 6,000 Square Feet / 60 minutes=100 square feet per minute Divide that by 3 (if your wide format is 36") to get linear feet per minute = 33.3 Divide that by 2 (since D is 24" long) to get 16.67 per minute This machine's rated speed is 12,000 sq feet an hour,or 200 square a minute. Divide that by 3.5 (since the machine is 42" width) to get 57.14 linear feet per minute. If you are printing D size prints, divide that by 2 to get 28.57 per minute.

That's not really the point I was trying to make. The point is that a salesrep shouldn't assume anything as fact because the facts vary from dealer to dealer and lease to lease. That having been said, you are missing a big part of the lease equation and that is the "alternative forms of revenue" that comes at the end of the lease. Anytime a lease is ended effectively, the lease company loses the chance of an automatic renewal (evergreen clause), in some cases they lose the chance to sell the

I have a trial out and the color reproduced on the copy is fine, however when printing from CAD the color of shading is not even close to what is being re-produced on an HP plotter (HP color does look better), I believe we are using the HPGL2 pc3 driver. Old Glory I agree!! Solutions take longer, I've been working on a secure print solution for almost 4 months. I'm lucky if the deal will top 40K and even luckier if I get the deal. I've tried to focus on higher end hardware and multiple units. The multiple units is tough because everyone is involved and margins are so so at best. MY only saving grace has been the wide format stuff.

The biggest challenge I see is that you have to sell so much more to make the same money you have in years past. It used to be that if someone needed duplexing, or stapling, or speed, etc. they had to pay for higher scale equipment. Now they can get for $3,000 what they used to have to pay $10,000 for. It used to be that everyone was a profitable prospect. Now only the upper 20-30% represent a potential revenue capable of earning over $1,000. Even solution sales are hard to build profit in and

Kitz: Not a bad idea, Ricoh may credit us $10 or so for the part and we'd pay $12.00 to ship it back to them. The screen should have been a standard feature and the manufacturers need to stop playing games with MSRP so that the price of the system is in line with others. Adding $189 on the MSRP is not going to hurt any sales n fact it would add sizzle and save dealers and sales people money. Being an option, I would get charged and additional fee to take the old one off and install the new one.

Anything specific about these print drivers that doesn't work so well? My experience is that the Ricoh drivers have always been a little bit quirky, but the majority of the time they operate as expected. Biggest issues I have found is the conflict between driver settings and machine settings, but will usually produce an error on OP panel.

You old employer will not be able to completely stop you from making a living in your field. In fact the more restrictive the non compete is the less likely a Judge will be inclined to honor it. Can you post the non compete agreement (just sanitize the names on it). I have heard of a Judge who allowed the ex employer to pick a very limited area (NOT New England, but maybe Boston proper) this leaves many other territories available for a Sales Rep to work. Or another Judge told the ex employer

It appears that it may be that the first time you try to print from Adobe XI it does not work properly by way of a pop-up that says"no pages selected" even though they have been selected. If you close it and reopen it may solve the problem. For whatever reason printing works now with the 3406W and Adobe XI. Also we forgot to tell the PS driver when it was downloaded that 36" x 48" is for tray 1 and 30" x 43" is for tray 2 (roll 1 and roll 2 actually). That caused problems also. Especially

Old Glory: Good catch!! Do you remember having to lug those paper trays around for every demo? What a pain the butt that was, you had to take the paper trays out of the machine, the by-pass tray, the exit tray, the document feeder tray. It was a known fact that I was soley responsbible for damaging many paper trays and doc feeder trays in the eighties.

I had a Nissan hatchback in the eighties, and the typical copier cart of the day was a gurney and yes for those of you who were not in the business at the time it was the same type of gurney that was used with ambulances. It was noted at the recent Photizo Transform Event that Japanese Electronics Manufacturers are in a downward trend for sales. Just and FYI Alas in this new report there is still no mention of the copier division. TV's, washing machines, refrigerators, LCD panel are all mentioned.

Toner Shipping Costs

Most of the copiers we sell have toner included service agreements and we "eat" the shipping costs. We are starting to sell more and more printers and many of those customers do not have toner-inclusive service contracts. We normally charge shipping but it is not cheap, I just saw a bill for 1 toner $114.85 for the toner and $21.00 for the shipping. Yea really, the only good it would do I guess is if you put the originals in face down and instead of accidently having a blank file when you go to look at it you are warned ahead of time. They do have a Canon DR-5020 scanner that after the file is scanned it goes back and deletes all the blank sides. It takes a while of course. So yes, it would almost have to be a third party software solution that would go into a PDF and delete the blanks. I will look and see if Nuance has a solution or if

IT people hate to manage an SMTP relay server. I have eliminated this server completely with Canon technology in many accounts. They are scanning to email right through Office 365.

We have charged shipping for supplies with regards to copiers and MPS contracts for many years. If a client complains, we offer to increase their CPC rate in exchange for "no shipping cost". 95% of the time they pay the shipping cost, which is a Flat rate of $10 per order. Our CPC rates are the lowest in Portland and clients know this when switching from other vendors.

Caveat - Consult your tax advisor. But if I "won" one but had to buy it myself and funds were included in my "wages" (thus taxed on W-2)it would automatically become an employee business expense (IRS form 2106) since it was not provided by my employer. I am not a tax advisor but in 32 years selling I've never been questioned by IRS.

In the beginning Atlantic Office Systems was not an Authorized Dealer for any manufacturer. Atlantic Office Systems rose from the ashes of Copy Machine Specialists (Authorized Minolta copier dealer in central New Jersey) after they closed their doors in early 1986. I still remember the end quite clearly. There was not enough cash to make payroll for everyone, and as we received our checks we all bolted for the bank to cash the check. This interface initially could be used to onsell complimentary product lines. Paper, DMS etc. A never ending banner huge banner ad would be a marketers dream i imagine. I would as a salesperson make sure everyone got a device with a larger screen interface for the sheer impact of the product.
