Art, eCopy has the best catalog of connectors for scanning. I think at last count there were over 250 connectors, some made by eCopy (Nuance) and many others by third party. I haven't sold NSI's AutoStore in a while so you may be better at addressing their connectors. It is interesting to note that the low cost for the entry level scanning products are effecting the Canon UniFLOW product. They announced at the forum that they would be offering an Advanced Scan client without the Secure Print

The fact that the website lead generator doesn't work is crazy, Wow! But my gut feeling is if any do leads come in to the Mfr, regardless of the source, the lead gets sent to a direct op. Independent Dlrs are left to find their own leads.

Let me piggyback on what Vince just said about making a profit. Many sales people think that making a profit on the hardware is what we are here for and it isn't. In our industry, companies hope and pray that the sales department can at least break even. In other words, the profit generated by hardware sales only pays for the generation of hardware sales. In most cases if the clicks aren't profitable, there is no reason for the sale. Selling hardware is our job but it is for the profit

Restaurants, hotels,churches, etc. may have functions on weekends but they do their administrative activities 8-5 m-f for the most part. The fact that they are open on nights and weekends does not mean that they require a functional copier during that time. I'm always amazed when I visit medical facilities how much faxing they still do. Nearly all of my business clients have abandoned faxing for the most part but not medical. To me there is nothing less secure than faxing but for some reason the industry with the most supposed interest in information privacy is the one still stuck in the stone ages using fax machines.

service manager what do you think? If you can make that work, now as a salesperson I can offer weekend service and have a competitive advantage. What if that increased sales by 15%, that would increase service revenue by 15%. If you could offer weekend service and not gouge the customer by doing so you would have a distinct advantage and a great story to tell. Your dealership is customer focused. You are available when the customer needs you.

In the New York market place with my dealership that I had in the eighties and early nineties. We hooked up with a shipping agent, they handled much of the shipping traffic in and out of New York and New Jersey Harbors. We had to be on call 24 hours and weekends to service copiers on those ships. Can tell you that we charged double to be on call for weekends and after hours, we have half of the money to the tech that wanted to be on call. Back then we were charging $125 per hour. We also

How many ships would buy a particular manufacturer based on 24/7 service at just one port. First of all, from my experience, doctors seem to be notoriously cheap when it comes to office equipment. The thought of giving their staff decent office equipment is not on their radar. They'd rather invest in the latest medical equipment or gadget, Mercedes/BMW, or hobby. That being said, re: HP printers, depending on the model, some of those older printers (like any in the 4000's) print pretty darn cheaply. SharePoint(OnPrem. or Online), Docuware with PlanetPress, PDFShareForms. Both Kyocera and Xerox (NSI subset) have some great connectors for capture/print with these. SharePoint needs to be looked at as a platform for building apps for document management and BI with dash-boarding, workflow, collaboration and social capabilities. The ability to offer all of that functionality does come with a price which if deployed well is worth the investment.

I don't think AirPrint will ever be available for the 03 series. I think it came down to Apple wanting too much and Ricoh deciding to do their own thing with Smart Device Print Scan. We use the Lantronix xPrintserver and have had good success with it. It does suck that you can buy a printer for under $200 with wireless capability and some form of air printing whether it be Airprint or something from the manufacturer like send to an email address and it is printed and we're still a little

I'm now trying to send a fax from one MFP to another over the internet using internet fax and have it receive and print the fax. Everything looks like it should work but I get an error when trying a manual receive that the email reception settings are incorrect. If anyone has a step by step I would love to get this working.

Art, I don't know that you could create a program on the home screen for this because the end destinations would probably vary. It just seems weird that they are making scanning capabilities available under the Facsimile mode instead of faxing available under the scanning mode. Scanning comes standard on most systems and faxing remains an option...all documents are scanned (converted to digital images off of the platen or through the feeder) but not all are faxed. Hey Gang, I recently heard a rumor that Ricoh Canada is aggressively targeting its own BW MIF for replacement with its own CLR A3 MFPs, reportedly offering CLR models for the price of BW. Although this is just a rumor, Ricoh's 45-69ppm A3 CLR MFP sales have really spiked in Canada, so this promo/initiative could explain the increase. Art, Sounds like you have an old school customer here. I have around 450 large format digital printers in the field 95% of which use AutoCAD and not one of them batch print dwg. files. What version of AutoCAD does he have? The reason I ask is most of the newer versions allow you to batch publish to pdf or dwf.

It is a simple Windows based app that allows users to scan directly to Salesforce, Google, Box, Google Drive, Sharepoint and other cloud repositories. And here's the kicker..it's only 180 a year per PC and installs in 5 minutes. No major ecopy server based complicated issues.

Plotworks batch printing issue (help)

So, I have a customer coming from plotbase and the 480W. He had the .dwg option with the plotbase controller. In order to batch print a set of .dwg's with Plotbase, they would send the drawings to the plotbase server and then merge them on the server and the print off sets . They were not using the ratio plotclient. We've now installed plotoworks and my SE is telling them that they must .pdf every drawing and then gather them in plotworks client to batch print sets. I just had a customer complain about this, he said if you dont follow the load instructions EXACTLY as the machine tells you, it's very tough. So is any customer with one of these units happy, we just had to replace a whole machine, not even Ricoh could fix it!

The only service calls I have had on the MPCW2200's has been for loading paper. The issue people have is the edge feeding into the printer needs to be straight and square otherwise it will fail to load. The other issue that causes this is the spools being too tight to the sides of the roll of paper. I think this is a good machine. I would rather it had a drawer and catch trays like the black and white machines have but I am sure that would be more money and it seems like all the colors machines

We are a Canon, Savin, Samsung, and HP Dealer. We now push Canon 90% of the time. Can't beat the reliability of them. We just got rid of Kyocera about 6 months ago. I am surprised at the people who said the quality was good. We had nothing but issues with the machines from day 1 and the support from Kyocera was less than desirable.

That was our experience with Kyocera as well and why we left them for Samsung as our second line. Our primary is Ricoh and the Samsung is a great compliment to Ricoh as they give you similar speeds and feeds at a much lower price to the customer. For the low volume customer who still wants the features without the hefty price of a Ricoh the Samsung is the perfect fit. Samsung has some features I wish Ricoh had by the way. One other problem with Kyocera was the pricing made selling a Ricoh

Is the time right for MFP Manufacturers to only offer...

While driving today, I thought about how many color systems I've sold in the last six months compared to black systems. Thus I went back to the aficio league and counted the numbers. Seventy five percent of my sales were for color. This included production units as well. We've never seen as many models in the industry as we have now, have a complete line up of A4 color, A4 color, A3 color and A4 black systems. A look at Ricoh's lineup and we'll see 9 color A3 systems but only 3 different boxes

Anyone have issues loading paper in the CW2200? Paper goes thru the loadcycle and rewinds back out of the machine before it is suppose to cut. But not all the time. Very frustrating.,

Okidata C900 Series Printers

Okay, Need some assistance on the Okidata C931dn and C941dn(5 color). How do these units hold up in a graphic design department? Will they handle 18K per month of 50-80% color output? Lots of experience w NSI. First, never worry about slowing the sales cycle - get it right up front. Second, large files always require additional fire power to OCR, I have seen many happy customers after adding addtl OCR engines from NSI. My recommendation is to engage a PS resource or NSI themselves, you will have a happyer customer as a result.

It's hard to make it out bus this is the Minolta Beta 450 plain. I too thought it was at first a 300re, but, the RE's had a moving top. The 350P Z had an oversized platen and then copied on to letter and legal.

I saw that it is being launched but haven't seen any pricing. Not much appears to have changed aside from the new features that are on the rest Ricoh's latest series. I was never a fan of the MP C300/400 series, I doubt we'll sell many of the MP C401 either.

Back in my days as a technician we had two of those in the field. I forget the model number though. First color machine I ever worked on. Incredibly slow and I remember on service calls just getting a test print out so you could check your work took forever. Also the worst toner spill I ever encountered was a cyan explosion inside one of these.

I learned today that while a Xerox copier is processing a Searchable PDF, the engine is not available for any other task. Long complicated PDFs can knock the Xerox completely out of action for many minutes until the OCR task is completed.

When Ricoh came in to launch the MP 2353/2852/3353 we were told the same thing. However, there is nothing in print including the Competitive Zone which is supposed to be the results of testing everything.

No, only Autodesk software can print a dwg. If they publish it to a PLT, PDF or tif it can print it. A dwg is not a finished file.

If the customer does not AutoCAD we load Truview on there workstation. It is a free software from Autodesk and will print dwg's through the windows driver.

this is the email I received from my customer: I was just informed by others that the Plot Works software that you have included in our deal, does not work with DWG files. As you know, we typically print from DWG files directly from AutoCad and not the DWF files that the software supports. I’m told that there is other software needed to allow DWG files to print.

The Old 480 dwg option was just a file converter, it would leave the old file on the server and the customer would call in with complaints that it was coming up with out of memory errors because it kept all the old files on the server and not delete them, at least that was our experience. I guess I'm confused as to why the customer is not just printing the dwg files out of AutoCAD with the AutoCAD driver and all the rest of his files with Plotworks.

Sure, now granted it's been a while sense I've install the Ricoh one but it just installed in the "add a plotter" wizard within AutoCAD. The wizard is found in the plotter manager area within AutoCAD.

Jeff: No yellow highlights here, however I did correct a few things and thanx for the heads up. As far as misspelled words, yup I going to have them every now and then. I try to make sure there are none, but there are times when many slip through. I'll try and do a better job, as far as grammar.... well, that's another story. When you work full time selling copiers and devote three hours a night to the web site every night, I do tend to get weary. Appreciate your comments.

Our dealer supports our machines for as long as we can get parts so I have equipment which has been in the field for 8-10 years and can't get them to upgrade. Why should they? If it ain't broke! What are the best options to getting around an "evergreen" clause in a prospects lease contract? Specifically, if the clause renews the contract for 1 full year & they missed the timeframe to provide written notice to cancel? Is the prospect obligated to make every payment? I suspect Sharp probably uses the business year that ends in March 2013 as their FY2013 4th quarter. Slide 19 is most related to the copier business. It does not indicate that they are doing great but I would not expect that neither are most copier vendors. Generally, Sharp's financial health has improved considerably.

Just another thought, do your sales people do site audits? if so something like In-Map might be worth considering (especially if you use FM Audit etc for a Data source ) http://www.in-map.com/Pages/Ac...n.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2f Personally I just carry a very small form factor laptop as there are some shortfalls to tablets in terms of what they can run and our back end systems, file access etc and cost isn't so much of an issue

Much of what's requested can be accomplished with a smart phone. I still keep a laptop in my car for its keyboard and because it has Ethernet and USB ports which are very valuable when you are in a customer's office doing an evaluation or troubleshooting printing or scanning problems.

SharePoint of course. NSi, eCopy or PlanetPress all have connectors from/for MFPs. Starting to dabble in Docuware. I believe they are using an NSi derivative for MFP connectivity.
