SharePoint of course. NSi, eCopy or PlanetPress all have connectors from/for MFPs. Starting to dabble in Docuware. I believe they are using an NSi derivative for MFP connectivity.

In my opinion, in most cases, the shorter term lease only benefits the salesman, not the customer or the dealership. A lot of the savings you are talking about would only be true if the customer does a 36 month lease and stops but normally as you discuss they don't stop the have a payment for life, it's just a question of how often they refresh their equipment. The shorter term lease does give the customer the benefit of newer equipment sooner but make no mistake, they do pay more for that.

Agreed, 36 month lease is best for the sales person! But isn't that why work in this crazy business? if someone told me that I could only sell 60 month leases then I would be hard pressed to continue in this business. However, selling the 36 month payment FIRST, allows you to drop the cost of the payments by increasing the length of the payments. Therefor we can reduce the cost of the equipment rather than discounting the equipment. Discounting the equipment hurts the rep, and the dealer.

If you look at my leases you'd see the vast majority are 48 months or less. Second if your customer shops you when you are trying to upgrade them early you could be toast. If the competing sales person is sharp he is going to point out what you're doing and you could wind up losing credibility with the customer.

I don't know about the sales process but as far as service goes customers are happier that get 36 month leases. The ones that go for 5 years often are calling way too often because their machines were shot a year ago. Pre ikon merge we had a lot of 36 month leases but now it seems like most are 60.

Speaking from the leasing company perspective - the 60 month lease is the preferred term today. 8-10 years ago it was 36 months. From my review of dealer portfolios and speaking with dealership principals, the 60 month lease is the most profitable lease term to the dealership - in terms of equipment funding and service revenue. FYI: Toshiba, overall, is in the top ten for RD Spend-to-Sales ratios. "Bottom dweller" really is not a fair use of words. With any device manufacturer, product is only as good as its dealer support. Get references if need be. RE: maintenance; The asker is talking BW devices not color. Regardless, get the maintenance. Fewer spikes in copy quality or hardware issues because you'll make that phone call to fix rather than putting up with poor copy quality, etc. for fear of how much it might cost

While they may have a good ratio of RD to sales ratio, the volume of dollars they spend on RD on their MFD's are rather small in comparison to the top four - and it shows in the reflection of market share and acceptance on a corporate purchasing level. My point is not to brow beat or denigrate - it is simply this. Acknowledge the truth of your product and don't try to make it something it isn't or others will mostly likely know it and tag you as just a salesman

That is a very nimble doc feeder that can do that on a high volume system. Question, can it scan both front and back with both images on one page? I know the card function feature which outputs both sides this way is impressive.

Could agree more to the cold calling as well as the planning and preparation. I can send an intro letter in the mail, but if I take it to the reception desk to personally deliver, chances improve. A planned segment of cold calling/hot knocks along with a few scheduled appts makes for a good day. That cold call is your first impression and make the reception person or initial contact a VITO!

More info...we can reproduce this problem from http://www.newyorklife.com/products/life-insurance/ When printing to a Savin C4040 (and others) using the PCL5 or 6 the print job either doesn't print and hangs at the MFP or on other products throws an SC899. This does not happen when using the PostScript driver. We have an HPLJ4000 and it prints fine. This has been reprocuced from IE8 and 9. I'm going to put in a ticket with Ricoh, but I can't believe no one has seen it. We have several

The best system we have is the Canon ImageWare Remote which no matter where the device is placed on the network. This works as long as the necessary ports are open. Which we have seen them to be open in all but the most secure networks, The other systems we use, UniFLOW, PrintFleet, ImageWARE EMC all work OK being the customer's firewall, but require us to setup a subnet or sometimes specific IP Addresses for these to get accurate meter reads. Yeti, When you have a one size fits all, take it or leave it solution you will often get a "no thank you" response from your more secure customers (Finance, Health Care, Etc.). Customers like options! Hell, I like options! Our first choice for automating meter reads is Canon's ImageWARE Remote (for the reasons described above), Our second choice is PrintFleet, the DCA software can be configured for subnets to be scanned, and it automatically reports the meter reads to a Server in the cloud

Sorry, I meant to say a mix of A4 and Legal size documents. I agree most copiers should be able to do mixed size originals with a combo of A3/A4 and Letter-R/Legal. The problem I am having and I do not think it can be done is one of a mix of A4 and legal mixing North American and European sized paper in the same document. This is because the two paper sizes are of different widths.

Fax forward to email using a Fax 4430NF

A major account of mine bought two Fax 4430NF's thinking they would be able to have faxes forward to email like their MFP's do. Fortunately, they got the faxes from their computer supplier so I am not on the hook but I would like to help them if I can. Since most have not looked at a stand-alone fax brochure for years let me review...The 4430NF has network print, LAN fax, and color scan including scan to email but does not forward incoming faxes. Any ideas?

Well, I evaluated @remote years ago before we decided on Printfleet so my info may be dated. From what I recall @remote did a fine job of collecting meters on my Ricoh devices. Not so well on non-ricoh devices. It did not have any accounting capabilities as it simply pulled data from the copiers. Be aware on this, we have been using this for over a year and the pit falls are. The percentage coverage is based on overall coverage not per toner, the biggest thing is the cost you offer it at, if 30% is in 0-5, 30% in the 6-10 and the 60% is above. What we have found is that the 60% and above is not just 11% coverage but 20-30%, so your copy cost doesnt cover this cost and you could lose money on the high end copy cost. The two lower tiers make you money but your margins are lower as 60%...

We became a Premier Partner with Print Audit so naturally, our orders now go through them. The main differences have more to do with timing of upgrades. For instance, we have had Print Audit Secure for quite awhile but PCS Director still doesn't have it I don't think. Also, I think you'll find that you can't "sell" the PA6 software if you are a RFG Dealer. All that having been said, all the things that people care about functionally, are the same.

On all Toshiba copiers for the last five plus years, the technician can quickly enable a service code to double click thick, special, Legal, Letter-R and ledger size paper. I have the strong belief that most other copier vendors can do the same thing. Generally, from the print driver, the customer has to select thick paper. He was another Rochester NY inventor who is actually noted with Carlson on the copier. I'm not sure about your source, but it's already in the Ricoh units, we found this about 4 months ago in the mpc305, the issue is getting it out of the system automatically for billing purposes. We use purpose software which can automatically cope with tiered billing.

Calums: Thanx for this, I see you're in the UK and the info I related to was that the tiered info came from a document there.My source was from Print Audit, but I wanted to make sure this was the case. We were talking about the latest upgrades to PA, and one of them was that their facility manager softwareis capable of taking those tiered color levels and putting them in a bucket so they could be billed. In order to configure the MP C6502 to do GBC and booklet maker you need to configure with the Pro Plockmatic Bookletmaker not the standard Ricoh bookletmaker. You can scan to Mailboxes (like Ricoh's document server, but better) and an Advanced Box as well (similar to dropbox). Anything else requires additional software.

What was stated to me was that their facilities manager product would be able to collect the tiered color billing and then report on it. All I heard was that @remote was going away. I was so surprised by the aspect of these new devices having the tiered that I did not even bother to ask about a replacement for @remote

I'm pretty sure it is just like a PC? If it's on the network and has the driver, it prints. They even have pcl drivers preloaded like a PC. My company is contemplating the issue of a Surface Tablet to each sales rep to facilitate order processing and CRM upkeep.

All you have to do is look at the competitive analysis (See Attached) between the Ricoh C4503 and C6502 against the competitors from Canon, Xerox, and KM to see how much of a difference True Adobe PostScript makes in the printing speed. Emulation machines are noticeably slower, to the point that you could argue that a lesser Ricoh needs to be proposed in order to compare accurately.

ink is blue, option is $1,600 or so MSRP and also has a scanner unit in the system to archive the data before the toner is erased. There is a latent image on the paper (you really can't even see it). Good idea, however re-using the paper after it has been printed (ran through fuser), handled, marked up, and then erased. I'm thinking you won't be able to get that many clean sheets (no folds, dog ears, pen marks, wrinkles) to put back into the feeder to erase the blue toner.

MP C6502 "Gotcha"

While pricing out a MP C6502 system I made a huge mistake. I needed to configure the MP C6502 with GBC Stream punch and booklet maker. I did the old look at (v) and the look up the finisher, but for some reason I messed up. With the MP C6502 you can't add Ricoh's bookletmaker the SR4100 and have GBC stream punch. You have to add the huge BK5010e Plockmatic booklet maker and the SR 4110. End result is that the plockmatic added almost $10k to the deal. While Canon's C9270 can have both the Canon

The cost of PostScript on Ricoh is half of what it used to be with most models being below $300 cost to the dealer. Kyocera is an emulation......it works but it's not near as good as Ricoh's true Adobe PostScript. Jobs rip considerably slower and the image quality isn't nearly as good as the Ricoh.

Czech is correct: there are Ricoh printer models with non-Adobe PostScript as well as 3rd-party Adobe controllers for Kyocera, Konica Minolta and Toshiba (each of whom have their own emulations.) My question is: why is "true" Adobe PostScript requested (especially in 2013 -- HP has been shipping an emulation for 15 years and is still #1, no?)

Hello Everyone. I am in need of your help. I have a lease coming up for renewal and I need a recommendation on a machine. I have in place a Toshiba 45 ppm but I am not thrilled with the new Toshiba line. The customer does 7k-8k a month, needs ledger size/print-scan/RADF/Duplex/Stapling Finishing. I am looking at a Samsung SCX-8123 but it is only 23 ppm Also considering Copystar FS6530 which is 30 ppm. Is speed a consideration since they currently have a 45ppm? I am open to any recommendations

I'm curious what makes Toshiba so bad that you would rather put a 23 ppm Samsung. Regardless, one tact is to show the difference in available time. It isn't a perfect science but divide 8K by the speed of the machine. A 23 ppm unit is actually occupied 5.8 hours per month. A 45 ppm is occupied just under 3 hours. 8 hour days times 21 working days is 168 hours. "Mr. customer, is it worth $x,xxx to have your copier idle 165 hours vs 162 hours each month?"

I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses for this thread, when upgrading most users will want to stay with the same speed, unless you can convince them otherwise to go to a slower unit based on how many copies of each original is copied, the copy and print volume is low, and ask them how many times they actually print more than 45 pages at a time. I've got more but would like to hear from others.

Adobe PostScript vs. Emulation

I'm up against a large MFP install and competing against Ricoh, Toshiba, Kyocera, and Konica Minolta as the finalists. The customer is looking for True Adobe Postscript (PDL) and was curious to know if all 4 of these manufacturers have this or if they use an emulation.It appears Ricoh uses Adobe Postscript, but I cannot tell if the others have this or not. Sales Recommendation Please

Hello Everyone. I am in need of your help. I have a lease coming up for renewal and I need a recommendation on a machine. I have in place a Toshiba 45 ppm but I am not thrilled with the new Toshiba line. The customer does 7k-8k a month, needs ledger size/print-scan/RADF/Duplex/Stapling Finishing. I am looking at a Samsung SCX-8123 but it is only 23 ppm Also considering Copystar FS6530 which is 30 ppm. Is speed a consideration since they currently have a 45ppm? I am open to any recommendations

I'm running at 91% of plan right now, we track net new business especially this year. I'm about 43% and the number #1 with our four branches.

50% of plan YTD. Not happy about it but I'm working towards a good Q3 ending and a strong Q4.
