Fotor080920328Seems ten years ago this week, I attended Rico Agenda in Dallas.  Don't remember much from that trip.  Thus it will probably be a decent read to view that thread below.

Yikes, I had a bad link in the section for the Ricoh Agenda, working to fix that now.  Points of the meeting were acquisition of Global by Xerox, the merge of Lanier & Gestetner brands for a new National Network for Ricoh.

Just had a good account get talked into a free one month trail for a Xerox 7665. The actually had it for 6 weeks because Xerox had trouble getting it to run properly on their network. All color and black copies and prints were free! "A Driving Force" was the theme for Ricohs National Sales Meting in Dallas, Texas. I remember asking someone smarter than me (those people are easy to find!)this same question a long time ago. The response I received then (I think I was questioning the function on one of the early color boxes) was that when selecting TIFF / JPEG, the system makes the distinction based on whether the file is color or black & white. This may have been the "dumbed down" answer given to a salesman by an IT guy, but it may have some relevance here. Is it possible that on a black & white system the

I have experience doing this because I am our purchasing manager. (I have six ship-outs pending at the moment -- oh, the gray hair LOL. Just kidding on that gray hair thing.) I am being told that new color copiers are not coming with atarter toners anymore. Therefore, I have to add to my sales cost a complete set of color toners unless the customer elects to go with a cost per copy contract. Is this accurate, no starter toners anymore?

Fotor080920328One item that stands out this week is the launch of the Ricoh fax 1180L.  Just a few weeks ago, one of my clients wanted a fax machine.  No print, no scan, just a fax.  Too my surprise, Ricoh is not offering a stand alone fax anymore.  I had to sell one of the smaller A4 devices and I was not happy about it, since the client was coming from a high end fax device. Instead of being able to write an order for a few thousand, it was more like $800. GRRRRR!

Why are MFP manufacturers not GREEN!

You've hear it over and over, it's all about capturing pages, especially in the SMB market place. So, why do MFP manufacturers like Canon, Xerox, Ricoh and Konica Minolta continue to manufacture stand alone laser printers that have a high per page cost with thier AIO cartdiges (All In One) and are not good for the environment? Frankly I'm amazed at the lack of discussion on this announce here. Xerox and Global Imaging seems like a very powerful influence in most markets. The ramifications of this on Canon's marketing plans going forward as well as RIcoh and Konica-Minolta, Global has come into many markets and gobbled up mid-sized dealers and taken it to many smaller dealers. Where will Canon go to maintain its marketrshare? What about all those CPC Contracts? Discussion?

Stop the presses!!!! Canon cancels Global for violating their contract by selling to Xerox.... From now on they can only purchase parts and supplies. Will Ricoh do the same? What about Konica? Although they might not be able to afford to do that. Interesting times we live in, don't you agree?

think this copier could do well in a school or church enviroment. The copy quality is better than a Riso but not as good as a xerographic color box. The finisher doesn't have a booklet or trifold option. That a big minus for that market. There's a lot of excitement about the product. I guess HP will spend a bit of money to market it....that gets sales people excited about it. If the public buys the marketing it could be a good seller for HP. Same here! Maybe a few of the big "players" that were with Global will start some new dealerships, hire away the global people and attack the new Xerox base. I would have to admit after years of selling against Xerox and then having to sell Xerox would be quit a pill to swallow.

Hmmmm, maybe Xerox feels a threat from the Edgeline technology of H-P and feels in order to continue to compete it needs a solid entry into that part of the merket. Could H-P be looking at someone to help solidify their position in the Segement 1-2 and build a position in segments 3, 4 and 5? Someone like IKON? H-P will have invested $1.5 BILLION in the Edgeline technology so what's a few more BILLION BUCK to ensure its success? Boy, would Canon go CRAZY then.

Question: alright so heres the deal. i got a call from a client. they have some TIFFs that they scanned in. they went to view them and the M$ fax and picture viewer opened the file. the image was shown upside down and so the rotated it to view the image in a more easily recognizable manner. well they then close the P&F viewer without saving the file. when they then attempt to plot the image from request, it gives an error. it says it is an unrecognized file type. i got a copy of the file and

My DSM said she is losing $1.2 Million/month in revenue. I personally feel that there is a reason that those customers aren't with Xerox to begin with and unless Xerox makes major changes in the way they do business, all these customers will eventually leave. If I had the money, I would start a dealership in a current Global hotspot and target the customer-base.

I saw a client that had a similar issue with a Xerox 8830 and Dodge, what she did was to covert the drawing first and then print, it was awhile ago and I am not sure what the exact workaround was with Dodge.

Art, I notice you went to the Monster show on wide format. That has not come to the midwest (Minneapolis) yet. I am losing a 240W to the Kip 3000 with enbedded controller. A key point for them that we both can do is the printing without opening and scanning of autocad format files. That is what eliminated the Xerox. Now that you raise the subject of Consumables, Ricoh allows IKON to purchase heavily from KATUN. IKON has always been notorious for buying non-OEM parts and supplies at deep discounts, which is one of the reason they had a poor reputation for service. Yet, it also helped IKON steal many a deal. Ricoh University and the RFG East Region (Dealer) are also in that facility. In fact, George Gorman works in that office and is the King of Hot Dogs, who initially recommended Rutt's Hut. You would lose web image monitor, but fiery has a piece of software that comes with it called Command Workstation. It's a phenominal tool. You can control print jobs, reprint jobs, pull job history, color correct, interpose, and a wealth of other things. All the emailing functionality will still be available from what I've been told. We have sold Fiery for years but never before on an MFP. Ricoh's Graphic Color boxes like the 6513 use Fiery and of course come with all the Fiery Utilities you mentioned. We also sell OKI and have some experience with the OKI MFP which has a Fiery RIP but the fax and email functionality is nothing like what we have become accustomed to with Ricoh. Let me ask again...does anyone out there have hands-on experience with the fax and email capabilities with the new Fiery controlled Ricoh MFP's

Just to give you an idea of the kind of variation there is, I went to the BTA compensation Survey of 2007. According to their survey, the median compaensation for a salesrep with 6+ years experience was $127,500/yr with a maximum of $422,377 for a rep in the West vs. $54,000/yr. and $104,000 for a rep in the Southeast. There is a significant difference in the cost of living which effects both the employee and the employer and therefore also effects compensation.

The prospect is replacing an HP Professional series inkjet 1200c. This printer does 11 x 17, which is about 25% of their already small volume. If I had to guess I'd say under 2k/month, all color with mixed coverage, but probably an average of 15%. 0907161003Ten years ago this month marked the start of the Great Recession here in the USA.  Personally, most of my accounts were in the AEC market and if I had to guess at how many of my AEC accounts went belly up from the 2007-2011.  I would estimate at about 40%. Intially they were talking about Kyocera laying off corp tech reps and then I read this post: If they would just pull their heads out.... You know the rest. Sales wouldn't be down if product and pricing were competitive. have to stay within the Toshiba family but IM looking to upgrade a few of the machines to larger units to resolve some of the issues. There is no monitoring client for me to look at all the copiers at once. I have to go to each copier one by one and enter the IP address in the browser to see if they are all ok. As far as the toner yields is concerned we have no idea. When a customer wants color, most of us will lead with Ricoh only. We have become a little gun shy with the Kyocera color line. I have sold there color printers an there yields our OK.

I agree! It is our job to analize cost along with workflow and present custom solutions! However where we run into problems is with unexperienced sales people that are recommended systems that are too small for the customer needs. I have seen this on three occassions in the last month or so. Being a Ricoh/Kyocera daeler we also sell offsets. The one thing you need to understand about commerical printers is the equipment they buy has to make them $$$$$. There will run the equipment into the ground before there will replace it.

thanx, I have a customer that is doing 16.5 k per month, and the local Canon dealer is pushing the c2880i, I keep telling them that this system will not last at this type of volume. Not sure what else I can do, maybe what I really need is a sheet stating the Canon's average monthly volume.

They bought Standard Copy, the large Savin dealer in the area sometime ago, so IKON is a Savin dealer in that Market. The price is way too low (Level 6 with almost no GP). Service and Lease rate are tolerable.

This really burns me up! (Monthly Volumes)

tell them that a system from me would be $40,000 compared to $12,000. This sale is still pending, I ended up quoted the larger system and then a quote for the same system that they already had. My beef is with the rep who gave them the quote, they were obviously in experienced and did not do their homework to meet the customers needs with a qualified system that will last the term of the lease and not be a boat anchor to the customer after two years! There's a thread below titled "Who Needs 11x17?".  It's been ten years now for A4 devices and I feel that most manufacturers have held back from developing advanced A4 devices.  When it comes down to it, it's all about profit and the manufacturers don't want to ruin there A3 business.  Come to think of it, none of the manufacturers are really killing it with A4. I hope I don't start seeing that around here. I configured this using true dealer cost at DMAP6 and got $10,383...add shipping, start-up supplies delivery, etc. and you've got to be at least at $11,000. The only thing I can think of (besides a complete mistake made by the rep) is that Ricoh has low-balled pricing for IKON to try to get them leading with Ricoh color rather than Canon color.

I just visited a dealer in the greater Boston area and he carries the Ricoh WF, Xerox WF, KIP WF and KM WF. I have seen a 240W labeled Toshiba and he mentioned that he also has seen a 240W labeled with Toshiba!! Here in CT we see it labeled as Ricoh, Savin, Gestetner, Lanier, GEI, and once as Toshiba.

Ricoh Needs Color Scanning on Next gen Model!

We are approximatly eight to nine months out for the next generation of the 240W. I don't know much about any new features. Color Scanning is critcal feature for the next gen system. Users would love to be able to scan color wide format (since 80% of our customers have color plotters in house)and then forward them via email or use an ASP for document collaboration. I agree. How about a color multifunctional wide format system using the gelsprinter technology? Come on Ricoh!! You have the technology. Just stop giving it away to other manufacturers. Just a rant here but did they trade the 3131 with Toshiba for the MP 9000-1350 series? If so, you got old technology and gave away our high volume edge. Or how about IBM getting it too. Give us the wide format we need. We sold the 240W for you and made that product #1. Let us do it again with the right product

Bottom line, The copier manufacturers are in the business of manufacturing copiers. Dealers are in the business of selling copiers. Mfgs panic anytime they see their inventory exceed certain levels and do all they can to continue manufacturing at consistant levels. When inventory exceeds preset levels, what do they do? they seek other methods of distribution to move equipment. Look at car manufacturing in the US, they will offer all kinds of incentives to their current dealers to move machines

ease of use: medium FCOT: Slow Copy Quality: Acceptable The only place I saw this config was at Ricoh Corp in NJ. I am going on memory, however I was not impressed with the FCOT. But then you are scanning from one piece of hardware and printing on another, it should be slower than an MFP.

The finisher is in the upper area of the inside of the device. It will staple 30 pages but has no offset sort, only standard sorting. The cost per page is .012007 That is the dealer cost for service and supplies. Probably mark up to .02 You don't add individual components, you order the unit preconfigured. The XS model has all the bells and whistles. A Ricoh 3030sp is competetive with the XS version. You'll get it on the CPP. FYI Does have quite a long warmup period. The scanning is nifty yet

Oh gesh, do I remember those first gel-printers from Ricoh.  They were cool, priced right, however almost all of the ended up with error codes (I think the code was E-99). The end result of the code was to throw the system in the trash

It's ten years later and I bother with the small ink printers from Ricoh anymore.  Although I'm a pretty big fan of the CW2201 color wide format that uses in.  Placed three of these so far and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will perform.

more than makes up for the lower, grainy pictures. Unless the customer lays them side-by-side, they may not notice the difference. I know we're going to try to start selling them. EVERY business has at least one or two inkjets, simply because of the low start-up cost.

I have had this happen before with a PC that had McAfee Anti Virus loaded on it. You have to update McAfee to fix the issue. It is a McAfee created problem and they acknowledge it. Go to McAfee and search for (Case No: 758588, Hotfix HF214636). Also,check out this FAQ from Ricoh Corp website I attached. It will explain also.

We ordered one and had our tech's look at it before we wanted to sell it. Our tech's thought it was poorly designed, and the print quality is poor. When thee GelPrinter Rep from Ricoh was in, he even said wait for Generation 2... So we have one if you want it?

Geesh, it's been ten years since the release of the Ricoh MP C615 MFP!   The 615 was Ricoh's first and only foray into liquid ink technology for an A3 MFP.  We sold a few and everyone who had em, hated them!  I would have bet the ranch that Ricoh would have introduced more ink based products ten years ago.  Glad I did not bet the ranch!

Ricoh AP3800C Color MFP Printing too slow

This AP3800C is the 38 black and 28 color printer with the scanner (on a big metal stand) sold a few years ago new. Just placed a used one at a company and it prints way slow on their brand new network with new PCs. Has max 384MB memory, firmware is upgraded. Tried RPCS and PCL5c and does not make a difference. When printing 10 copies from Excel it prints the first after 25 seconds, then the next 15 seconds later, next another 15 seconds and so forth. Seems it is ripping each page seperately

Network speed Ricoh 1013

I just installed a Ricoh 1013 but the orange light on the MFp was not coming on. Last time this happened to me, it was a network speed issue which I was able to resolve. But on this machine, I am unable to figure out how/where to change the speed (auto select; 10Mbps; 100Mbps) Does any know? the MFP is saying its running at 100Mbps. I am tryin to get it to auto select or if that doesnt work, to 10Mbps. Thank for any help you can give.

I am not clear on how to set this on this fax machine. I have seen a write up for a copier but in reading the op man for this fax, it sort of indicates I will need SR Pro, whereas the copier (B089) doesnt require it. This customer only want one email...

I would prefer that the software -- ANY third-party title-- NOT be bundled with the hardware. My sales reps would prefer to be able to configure the software proposal the way the client needs it instead of having to offer it a certain way because it comes preconfigured that way. And speaking with my Purchasing manager hat on, too many preconfigured options is needlessly confusing (the CL7000/CL7100, for a prime example).

and if we are counting 11 x 17 as 1 it's not truly accurate. Xerox gets around this by not scheduling any preventative maintenance on their machines...maybe that is one of the reasons why their service is sometimes lower, they aren't providing the same type of maintenance.

Don't know if this will help...But, the scans are typically saved to the Work folder in program files under RW-240, you'll have to drill down to them. If the customer is scanning to a set, scantool always tries to open the last set you worked with when you open the application. If one of the tif files have been moved it will display a similar error to what it seems you're experiencing. Try creating a set and saving it, then closing scantool and reopening it. One issue I know with the Ricoh plotters "cutting off the drawing" is when prining PDF files. Acrobat 6 has this issue and a fix is to upgrade Acrobat to version 7. If you have more information about the circumstances under which the drawings are printing incorrectly, we will be glad to help.

I ran into a deal where the toshiba dealer was telling the prospect that their machine automatically emails them when mpm's are due and meters. So I checked their website and it seems to be true. I don't see why are products can't do the same. Sometimes it seems the manufacturers are more concerned with how secure they can make the product than user-friendliness.

Print Collate CLP27dn and Adobe

I know that the hard drive is recommended for collate printing on the Savin CLP27dn. So, I wasn't surprised when I selected Collate in the driver and printed a PDF and it wasn't collated. I selected collate in the driver and the application and then in the driver alone, then the application alone. No collate. I was surprised when I printed from MSWord and it did collate. My question know is if I do add the hard drive to the CLP27dn will I then be able to collate when printing a PDF?

I don't know anything about Unix. The customer told me that he had to develop a special driver to print the barcodes, and that he didn't want to have to develop a second driver to print to a Ricoh copier when he was already printing to a Canon. That's all I really know about it -- except that his Toshiba won't print the barcodes -- they can't even get it to stay on the network.

Try a Postscript Driver and Change the "Optimized for speed" to "Optimized for Portability" under the postscript tab. When I sold Canon (clc 1150), we had a problem with a customer printing bar codes. The bar code would come out, but would not be able to be read by the barcode reader. Switching this setting on the postscript driver fixed the issue.
