Realistically, they messed up so bad by not having a color scan option with the new 2400 and 3600 (and nothing forseeable for the next 16 months), that they had to resort to this scanner from Contex. I think your giving three seperate yet totally intergrated defintions of Print Management shows just how great a disconnect there can be when dealing with our customers in regards to providing a PM solution. I was recently doing a discovery with a company's CIO and while a PM solution had been addressed with the previous CIO and accepted as one, the new CIO saw it merely as a way for the current vendor to lock in recharged toner cartridges and service at a hefty price. From what I've seen from

i would say the answer is yes.... PM is really what your customer thinks it is, so it is really up to us during the discovery stage to find out just what the customer's viewpoint is on the subject. Obviously with the CIO I was speaking about, just providing recharged cartidges and including service on the printers wasn't footing the bill, however, for some that may suffice. It's like everything else in our business now, as the professional we have to be the one to diagnose(?) and to recommend

I just think of Print Management (or Managed Print Services) as the extension of copier programs into the print environment...all service and supplies for a set cost per copy (or in this case print). Sometimes it includes hardware, sometimes not. The other aspect we bring to the table is the establishment of automatic ordering by the device thereby eliminating the need for pre-paid inventory and all the problems associated with it i.e too much, too little, obsolete, employee theft, etc. We also

One of the other components which can be part of the managed print process is the financing side. We just recently finalized a total CPC contract with a long term client and the number one reason they were really interested in going this way is to get "off book" financing. Our deal is a cpc for a 48 month term and we carry the hardware as well as the service and supplies...for them it is only a quarterly (paid in advance) invoice for a volume of prints...no lease, no long term responsibility

It is important to understand that you deserve happiness. Those who believe that they are not worthy of happiness may subconsciously sabotage their efforts to achieve happiness. If necessary, tell yourself each day that you deserve to be happy and remind yourself what steps you will take to achieve the happiness you desire. Being happy, you can achieve alot more in life then you ever though. Even in sales, have a happy face, it helps to close business.

A little of news this week is that the US Dollar is growing stronger vs the Japanese Yen.  When this has happened in the past Japanese copier manufacturers have decreased pricing here in the States.  When you couple this with the Chinese tariffs that may go into effect this week, it could mean that our industry may not see price increases.  Japanese manufacturers might just bite the bullet on the increases in order to keep boxes moving out of the plants.

Color Control

Hey folks, I was hoping someone might be able to help with this scenario I have going on. The customer (a private school) has several Savin C3030mfps. They want their staff and students to be able to print to these. They would like user codes set up on the mfps and to have each computer have a unique user code. I have installed 2 instances of the RPCS driver (copier color and copier b&w). In the b&w driver, I set the color preference to b&w and I went into advanced optionslimitation settings

I understand. However, I don't want each user to have to configure their default to b & w or have to remember to choose b&w everytime they print. If I just restrict color, it will result in jobs not printing as opposed to just printing in b&w. The work around I've devised is to install a print driver for a b&W mfp (Savin 9025/33) with similar options for them to use for black only users/jobs.

whatever. All that being said, there is no justification that I can think of for a 300% increase. I have to believe that if you told them that they are stuck with it at that price that they will reconsider. Our goal is that the sales cost needs to be 25% of the street price of new. That way Sales reps can sell at 100% markup and the customer is getting it for 50% of the cost of new.

This is why I don't like General Guides If a customer is using DHCP, simply picking a higher number is not safe. You (and your contact at the customer) may not be aware of other factors. There may be a different class of devices (such as servers or printers or whatever) that is placed into a higher DHCP range. If you want to be perfectly safe when the customer is on DHCP, their IT should provide you with an IP. Of course, I've grabbed a seemingly open IP in order to get he printer working too .

Canon and GBC

I am up against Canon on a big color machine. I know the Ricoh high end color machines will do GBC punching on-line. The only machines that I can find that Canon supports are the B&W 7105/7095/7086 machines. Has anybody else run across a Conon Color machine that will GBC punch?

Are you selling these as an alternative to the Ricoh's when the deal is tight? Do you have a good mark-up for GP?

How do you get away with selling for $5,500 when they retail for $2995 and are sold on the internet for $2,700? Am I missing something?

Re: Samsung SCX-6345N

The one I just sold had an additional paper tray and the finsiher and cabinet. Muratec MSRP is $4,995 for 4550, I think $800 for finisher and $350 for paper tray and $400 for cabinet. What I have been doing is not leading with this machine, I am leading with traditional A3 systems. When I get an objection, whether competition or price, I then ask the user if 11x17 is really needed to copy, print or scan. In most cases the answer is NO, from there I proceed to tell the story about how A

Re: Ode to the Copier Repairman

No credit to me, I'm just a salesman! Honestly, I found it on the web this morning while I was looking for a cute copier cartoon to put on my monthly sales flyer. I cut out the pictures (inside of a copier, we've all seen them before) and pasted the rest. Glad you liked it.

Agreed, but lighten up on the handshake. A bone-crushing handshake is a horrible impression on anyone but especially on a woman. You would think this would be common sense, but I've had this discussion with several customers about other sales people who think a "Firm" handshake means the other person walks away in agony.
