Tricia, I find it interesting that you suggest that Art Post may have a conflict of interest because he sells Ricoh. What you don't know is the what's and why's surrounding the creation of the p4photel. I know because I was there. Ricoh used to have a message board where Ricoh reps could dialog with one another throughout the country. That is until Ricoh reps started sharing even the ugly (which every manufacturer has). Ricoh began to shut down critical conversation ABOUT RICOH, even going so

Sales People Need to Embellish Their Email Signatures

I for one understand that cold calling (phone) for appointments is not an easy task.

Phone Cold Calling

A recent survey from Spotio released some eye opening facts about sales calls stats.

  • Only 2% of cold calls result in an appointment (Leap Job)
  • It takes an average of 18 calls to actually connect with a buyer

On average a rep can make 12 calls per hour this includes re-call research (linkedin, CRM), ring time, talk time, voice mails, and post-call (always liked the word post) CRM updates.

With a work block of 4 hours a rep can log 48 calls. Thus 4 hours of work on average will result in almost one appointment. In most cases breaks are needed and I would find it tough to hit the 48 calls with every 4 hour sales block.

These are tough numbers especially with reps that have an existing account base that needs to be maintained.

Sales Emails

In the same recent survey Spotio had some interesting stats for sales emails.

  • Email marketing has 2x higher return than cold calling (source)
  • 40% of emails are opened on mobile first – where the average mobile screen can only fit 4-7 words max
  • Personalized emails improve click-through rates by 14% and conversion rates by 10%.   [Source: Aberdeen Group]
  • Using the words “Sale,” “New,” or “Video” in subject lines boost open rates. [Source: Adestra] One of my favorites "I Missed You"
  • Personalized subject lines are 22.2% more likely to be opened. [Source: Adestra]

I believe reps need to use both points of contact when trying to obtain appointments.

Embellish Your Emails

We all have or should have a signature line with your outbound emails.  The tradition signature emails look like the image sample below.

Simple right? But is simple doing the job for you?  Is simple allowing your prospects to learn more about YOU an the services you provide? Maybe it's time to embellish your signature line.

Sample 1 with minor embellishment (signature)

Below is a sample of my signature line that I've been using for years with a small bit of embellishment.  (see attachment one if it's too small)

1) Linkedin link that directs client to my profile  Art Profile Link

2) Laundry list of services that we offer

3) Reference from one of my clients

Sample 2 with increased embellishment (signature)

Below is a sample of my signature line that I've been using for years with the added embellishment for Linkedin referrals and certifications.  (see attachment two is this is too small to see)

Extra additions

3)  Linkedin references; this link goes directly to all of my references on Linkedin, the used can then choose given or received.

4)  Certifications that I've received.  This is something I'm still working on and I will be adding more shortly.

Conclusion

For the client who wants to know more about "you" the person, adding these links will allow the existing client, suspect or prospect to learn more about how you conduct your business.  Think of the referals more like have five star client reviews available 24/7.

It's not a bad thing to send clients to your profile,  because in the end people want to so business with people they trust and people they know. An embellished signature line in your email will separate you from the average rep. Who the frack wants to be AVERAGE!

Redefining Workspaces: The Role of Wellness Zones

Redefining Workspaces: The Role of Wellness Zones

Creating a positive and healthy work environment is essential for employee well-being and productivity. In recent years, especially since the pandemic, businesses have recognized the importance of incorporating wellness spaces into the workplace. These dedicated areas provide employees with opportunities to relax, recharge, and prioritize their physical and mental health.

In today’s brisk work environment, employees’ mental health should be the top priority of organizations. After all, a happy employee is a productive employee. As businesses strive to create a positive and productive work culture, incorporating wellness spaces into the office has become a prevalent trend.

The Rise of Wellness Spaces

In the late 1980s, companies focused on psychological well-being as part of their workplace wellness initiatives. In pop culture, these efforts were fueled by the popularity of an exercise video series released by Jane Fonda at the start of the decade.

Workforce wellness grew in popularity at that time due to diminished employee loyalty, resulting from tumultuous economic issues and distrust in corporations. Employees started protecting their own needs in comparison to the wants of their employer. In 1986, OSH began to encourage implementing stress-related mental health programs in the workplace.

By the new millennium, workplace wellness programs were fairly established domestically. A 2008 Employer Health Benefits Survey reported 70% of large companies in America had workplace wellness programs. It also helps that global businesses are experiencing drastic innovation due to technological advances.

The Current Landscape

As we continue the second decade of the 21st century, the workplace wellness journey has gone full steam ahead, increasing awareness and prevention services. Today’s workplace wellness programs are designed primarily as preventative care for innumerable health conditions.

Screenings and health risk assessments accurately detect acute and chronic conditions. Mental and emotional health services have been emphasized with increased absenteeism due to the global pandemic. Teams of clinical and non-clinical practitioners include mental, behavioral, and integrative health working in partnership with health, wellness, and professional recovery coaches. Because of the isolation of 2020, the need for mental and behavioral health services has never been more prevalent. So has an increased want of wellness spaces in the workplace.

The Impact of Wellness Spaces on Employee Health

wellness space impact

Research shows that incorporating wellness spaces into the office can significantly impact employee health. According to a study by the World Green Building Council, employees with access to natural elements and spaces designed for relaxation and rejuvenation experience a 15% increase in well-being and are 6% more productive. Furthermore, according to Gallup, engaged employees are 21% more productive than their disengaged counterparts.

Understanding the connection between employee happiness and overall organizational health is vital. By providing areas for physical activity, quiet reflection, or even a quick power nap, employers can help reduce stress, boost mental clarity, and improve overall employee health.

Designing Relaxation Zones

Creating dedicated relaxation zones within the office environment can offer employees a retreat from the demands of their workday. These spaces can be designed with comfortable seating, soothing lighting, and calming elements such as plants or water features.

For example, Google has incorporated nap pods in their offices, providing employees with a quiet space to recharge. Additionally, Salesforce has installed meditation rooms in their offices, recognizing the importance of mental well-being in achieving optimal performance. Employees can take short breaks to relax and return to their tasks feeling refreshed and rejuvenated by designating specific areas for relaxation.

Incorporate natural elements like plants and natural light to create a calming environment. Provide ergonomic furniture and adjustable workstations to promote good posture and reduce the risk of musculoskeletal issues.

Prioritizing Physical Activity

Encouraging physical activity at work is vital for maintaining employee well-being. Many forward-thinking companies have implemented on-site fitness facilities or designated exercise areas within their office spaces. These spaces are equipped with exercise equipment, such as dumbbells, treadmills, or yoga mats.

For instance, Zappos and USAA offer an on-site gym and organize employee group exercise classes. Regular physical activity improves physical health, increases energy levels, reduces stress, and enhances cognitive function. Fitbit reports that employees who engage in physical activity during the workday have 53.8% lower healthcare costs.

Embracing Nature & Biophilic Design

Biophilic design, which incorporates elements of nature into the workplace, has gained popularity for its positive impact on employee well-being. Natural light, indoor plants, and views of green spaces have been shown to reduce stress, enhance mood, and improve productivity. Amazon’s Spheres, a collection of glass domes filled with plants, exemplifies this approach. By integrating nature-inspired elements, employers can connect with the outdoors and promote a sense of calm and serenity in the workplace.

Supporting Mental Health

As mentioned earlier, promoting mental health is the most important aspect of improving employee well-being. Organizations can foster a positive work environment by destigmatizing mental health and offering support. Companies must foster a supportive culture outside of wellness spaces that encourage employees to utilize these amenities. Managers should all lead by example, emphasizing the importance of work-life balance and wellness practices. Offering flexible work arrangements, promoting regular breaks, and providing access to mental health resources can further this initiative.

I have to believe that if you told them that they are stuck with it at that price that they will reconsider. Our goal is that the sales cost needs to be 25% of the street price of new. That way Sales reps can sell at 100% markup and the customer is getting it for 50% of the cost of new.

Perception Is Reality... Are You Being Viewed As Just Another Empty Sales Rep?

"Emptiness is a symptom that you are not living creatively."
Maxwell Maltz

How would you define being empty?

Are you leading a creatively filled sales life?

We will refer to the Collins Online Dictionary for a moment, as we take a peek into their definition of empty.

  • An empty place, vehicle, or container is one that has no people or things in it.
  • An empty gesture, threat, or relationship has no real value or meaning.
  • If you describe a person's life or a period of time as empty, you mean that nothing interesting or valuable happens in it.

Now, let's twist these definitions up a bit, as we make them sales centric...

Are your client relationships in an empty state of mind, would you know?

Are you bringing real value and meaning to your client relationships, would you know?

Are your client relationships filled with interesting and inspirational experiences, would you know?

To quote Arthur Erickson,

"Illusion is needed to disguise the emptiness within."

What may you be disguising? What may you be hiding? May there be an illusion being portrayed?

Are your client relationships filled with love, sincerity, a sense of belonging and community or are your clients viewing these relationships as being shallow, lacking substance and full of disconnect?

How are you presenting yourself to your clients?

How are you being viewed by your clients?

Does the walk match the talk?

What is true and not true?

"We live in a fantasy world, a world of illusion. The great task in life is to find reality."
Iris Murdoch

Allow this quote to sink in for a bit, as we travel back in time to July of 1977. The Grand Illusion was the seventh studio album by American rock band Styx. It entered the American bestsellers on July 30, 1977 at No.123, the first of an epic 127 weeks on the billboard's top charts.

I know there will be some of you singing right along with me...

Welcome to the Grand illusion
Come on in and see what's happening
Pay the price, get your tickets for the show
The stage is set, the band starts playing
Suddenly your heart is pounding
Wishing secretly you were a star

I believe, sales professionals deep down inside, do not wish they were a star, they believe they are a star... in the minds of their clients, future clients and out into the community.

They lead with intention. They are congruent with their actions. They carry themselves with confidence. They are the example. There is no illusion.

Sales professionals align their vision and values to earn the respect of their clients. With purposeful intent, they engage in heartfelt activities benefitting all those around them.

Your clients do not crave a grand illusion nor an empty sales rep. Your clients, future clients and community crave a sales professional who is heartfelt, sincere and is fueled with empathy, emotion and excitement.

PERCEPTION AND REALITY

“Thoughts become perception, perception becomes reality. Alter your thoughts, alter your reality.”
William James

The phrase "perception is reality" is a commonly used expression suggesting people's understanding and interpretation of the world around them. Their biased perceptions can shape their reality, even if those perceptions may not align with objective facts.

How individuals perceive and interpret their experiences can heavily influence their beliefs, attitudes, and actions, regardless of whether those perceptions accurately reflect the objective reality.

Let's put on our sales hat for a moment...

Could all the past unfavorable experiences with salespeople be distorting your client's reality?

I believe "perception is reality" highlights the significance of how our perceptions influence our experiences and understanding of the world.

My friends, this ties directly into how many of your clients view salespeople.

If you desire to change their perception, then change the narrative. Meaning, control how you show up for your clients and future clients.

What you are you doing to build authentic relationships while bringing meaningful value?

What inspirational experiences are you bringing to transform their deeply rooted belief of salespeople?

This is a terrific quote by Linda Humphreys, PhD, a psychologist and life, relationship, and spirituality coach,

“Perception is merely a lens or mindset from which we view people, events, and things.”

Question for all of you... How do you want to be perceived by your clients and future clients?

SALES PROFESSIONALS ARE LEADERS, NOT EMPTY SALES REPS

“Being a self-leader is to serve as chief, captain, president, or CEO of one’s own life”
Peter Drucker

Sales professionals hold themselves personally accountable and self-manage themselves to a higher degree of standards than all the other empty sales reps.

They are highly effective in opening business conversations as they speak the language of leadership.

With confidence and conviction, they communicate insight and ideas to the hearts and minds of those whom they wish to move to action, their clients and future clients. They keep the conversation simple and do not overly complicate things.

How well are you communicating the language of leadership?

How well are you engaging your clients in business conversation?

"Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that."
Norman Vincent Peale

Are you willing to look inward? Are you willing to unlock your heart to align to the hearts and minds of your clients?

Sales professionals are not viewed as being empty through the lens of their clients, future clients and community.

ARE YOU BEING VIEWED AS AN EMPTY SALES REP?

I firmly believe the words you use and the messaging you use determines how someone views you, connects with you and relates to you.

The sales world is riddled with sales jargon, industry acronyms, phrases, cliches and crapola... all of this may sound impressive to you but how do you think your clients or future clients interpret what you're throwing down?

Are you using the same overused sets of jargon to describe situations as a replacement for just speaking plain old normal language?

Are you relying on industry buzzwords, catch phrases and acronyms to communicate concepts rather than explaining what they truly mean?

Let's just get real... Do you think this makes any of you sound or look smart? I promise you this... It only adds to more confusion as opposed to clarity.

Words matter and you must choose them wisely.

Sales professionals communicate in a way that brings them to life.

When you hide behind catch phrases and buzzwords this will only expose you and then label you as being just another empty sales rep.

These words drive your clients bonkers...

  • Turnkey
  • Streamline
  • Think outside the box
  • Best in class
  • Cutting edge technology
  • Leading edge
  • Revolutionary
  • Wheelhouse

Sales professionals continually master the art of communication. This allows them to converse with their clients in a way that engages, informs, and excites them into business betterment.

Quite frankly, most sales buzzwords do not contribute meaningfully to a sales conversation. In fact, the polar opposite occurs causing many to distrust salespeople or making them feel confused.

Sales professionals exchange buzzwords for power words to create connection and collaboration.

Nothing worse than an uneducated sales rep who recites information off the back of a brochure or acts just like all the other empty sales reps.

EMPTY SALES REPS HIDE BEHIND BUZZWORDS

Here lies the mirror moment... We all know how hard it is to gain access to the C-suite. When you secure that coveted meeting, it’s mission critical you maximize every minute.

The last thing you want is to have decision makers walk away empty handed, or worse, leaving them confused or none the wiser.

Are you being viewed by executive decision makers as being just another empty sales rep? Would you even know?

Hear me out on this one... Empty sales reps cover up their lack of understanding and experience with sales jargon, all because they think it sounds good. All this does is confuse, alienate and label you.

In George Orwell’s essay, Politics and the English Language.” he shares his opinion on our reliance on “dying metaphors,” “pretentious diction,” “stale similes and idioms,” that have clouded our thinking.

He understood that if we only recite clichéd and meaningless phrases because they sound nice, we’re spared the effort and challenge of not only crafting our thoughts and opinions into fresh language, but confronting what our thoughts and opinions really are.

Simply put, using unclear and cliched sales jargon reflects upon you with unclarity and canned thinking.

Again, I just have to ask... How do you want to be viewed by your clients?

ARE YOU WORTHY OF ENGAGING IN A BUSINESS CONVERSATION?

"Self-worth comes from one thing - thinking that you are worthy."
Wayne Dyer

You must live, walk, talk and breathe as a sales professional.

Do you believe in YOURSELF and your messaging?

Are you carrying yourself with confidence?

An executive appearance, presence and attitude may open some business doors of opportunity, however; without competence those will quickly dissipate.

I would like for all you to stop for a moment and think about this scenario...

What happens in a first meeting, when an executive shares their vision, business initiatives and challenges and all you can contribute to the conversation is a stream of buzzwords, canned pitches and sales jargon?

People, we know this is happening!

What has just been described my friends is an empty sales rep.

AVOID BEING LABELED AND JUDGED

Obsessing over labels and perception stops you from being an authentic version of you.

I encourage many of you in sales to remove the mask and become your true self.

You must ditch the facade, buzzwords, and sales jargon.

There are way too many sales reps who believe they are ‘A’ players, but in actuality they are nothing more than ‘C’ players hiding within an empty sales rep.

If you find yourself being labeled or judged as being empty, stop and then ask yourself...

Is it true?

Is it limiting you?

Take all of this to heart as you control how your clients and future clients view you.

Expensive name brand suits are no substitute for business acumen or business substance.

Fine clothing is not a substitute for brains.

I encourage you to look in the mirror...

  • Are you being sincere with your clients?
  • Are you bringing substance to your clients?

Real Copier Sales

I don’t have a fancy picture, nor a creative meme hashtagmemes and not even a fancy sales gimmick to tell you about. What I received today was an order for $45k from an an account that I’ve been stopping in for 30 years! I’ve lost so many times over that time span to this client. Loss after loss after loss and yet I kept coming back for more. I guess I thought that my persistence would eventually pay off at some point. There was no magic, no special deal, and no gimmicks that finally landed the order.

It was more about the relationship that was built over a LONG time. That relationship now spans two generations. There’s nothing new in selling, it’s still about the seller meeting the buyer. Then the trust that is gained by having genuine conversations. I realize that everyone can’t wait 30 years, however, if you outlast you’re competitors you’re in the game. hashtagpersistence hashtagsales

I read past the "bill" description too fast. A bill is not law, it is, I think, just an expression of unanimous opinion by the Senate. Somewhere in the news this week, I read that Kyocera intends to increase production of A3 copiers in China by expanding a current factory. I am sure all copier manufacturers plan 10+ years into the foreseeable future and cannot worry about politicians who could come and go every four years.
