Embracing the Dance of Time: A Journey into Net New Prospects

Embracing the Dance of Time: A Journey into Net New Prospects

Acknowledging the intricate dance of net new prospects in my professional life has been both a challenge and a revelation over the past two years. While I refuse to let excuses cloud my path, I've come to understand the delicate balance required to navigate this intricate web of tasks and responsibilities.

Dedicating Moments:

For those of us already nurturing an existing client base, carving out dedicated days and time slots exclusively for seeking new prospects is a game-changer. Imagine silencing your phone, setting up an enticing voicemail, and immersing yourself entirely in the pursuit of potential connections. No emails, no calls – just the focused exploration of new opportunities.

Crafting the Pipeline:

My previous blogs have often emphasized the importance of revenue pipelines – a lifeline for any sales copier representative. For instance, a target of $60K per month necessitates a robust pipeline of at least $180K, considering the inevitable setbacks of ghosting, lost deals, and prolonged decision-making. To meet a $120K annual revenue quota, a monthly influx of $30K in net new opportunities becomes a necessity. However, it's not about a solitary $30K prospect; diversity matters. Three opportunities at $30K each provide a realistic shot at achieving the desired goal, illustrating the significance of a well-populated pipeline.

Harmony in Marketing:

In the symphony of sales, a harmonious blend of push and pull marketing notes is essential. Push marketing involves traditional methods – sales calls, in-person visits, letters, emails, or text messages. Contrastingly, pull marketing relies on the allure of content. Whether it's crafting engaging blog posts, curating content for platforms like my Jersey Plotters site, or sharing informative videos on social media giants like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok – the goal is to be sought after.

Gone are the days of relying solely on calls and in person visits. The evolving landscape demands a dual approach, with a significant presence on social media platforms. While the tangible results may take time, the investment is worthwhile. Social media weaves a narrative that complements the direct interactions, propelling you closer to your goals.

Should queries arise, I extend an invitation to connect. Let's embark on this journey together.

Beyond Buzzwords: Authentic Communication Leads to Real-World Results.

"Jargon allows us to camouflage intellectual poverty with verbal extravagance."
David Pratt, Foreign Editor, Sunday Herald

As an executive leader, please do not let your company's shorthanded language get in the way of your strong communication.

Unpacking an issue, gaining alignment, removing the white space or create the tension.... Way too many leaders in business are using the same standard sets of words to describe situations, rather than speaking in real, relatable and relevant terms.

Why do leaders rely on certain buzzwords to communicate business concepts rather than explaining what they mean?

Is it because they think it makes them sound smart? I'm here to share with you that it only adds to more confusion, compared to what is really need and that is clarity.

When leaders string together long sequences of buzzwords or use them to replace what needs more explanation, they lose all their value, and they alienate team members.

Words matter and you must choose them wisely.

Communicate in a way that brings you and your company to life. Catchy marketing phrases and buzzwords is not an appropriate way to connect and rally your people together.

In George Orwell’s essay, “Politics and the English Language.”he shares his opinion on our reliance on dying metaphors, pretentious diction, stale similes and idioms, and other instances of mannered verbiage that has clouded our thinking.

He understood that if we only recite clichéd and meaningless phrases because they sound nice, we’re spared the effort and challenge of not only crafting our thoughts and opinions into fresh language, but actually confronting what our thoughts and opinions really are.

In other words, using unclear and cliched business jargon reflects upon you with unclarity and canned thinking.

Avoid the buzzword trap by:

  • Speaking the way people actually talk.
  • Providing examples that are understandable.
  • Bringing more specificity into your communication.

THERE IS POWER BEHIND WORDS

"Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble."
Yehuda Berg

You never know when one word, one sentence or one paragraph can positively affect someone's day. On the flip side, failing to pay attention to the words you use may negatively impact someone's day, their thoughts or how they feel about you and your company.

You must align your words, voice inflection, tonality, eye expression, and body language, in an honest exchange. This is what Selling from the Heart is all about.

You must become disciplined to speak in a manner which conveys respect, credibility and humility.

Polishing one's vocabulary is the sign of a mature business executive.

Thich Nhat Hanh, a contemporary Buddhist monk, global peace worker, and the author of, Being Peace, shares... "Speaking honestly in any negotiation between individuals or groups is necessary. Speaking the truth in a loving way is also necessary."

Hahn goes on to say, "We must be 'lovingly honest'; we must discipline ourselves to speak in a manner that conveys respect, gentleness, and humility."

How can you apply this to your communication to better connect with your people?

As a leader and executive, I would like for you to think about how you're carrying yourself, the words you are using, the messaging you are using, and how all of this might be connecting or disconnecting you from your people.

WORDS AND YOUR MESSAGING ARE LIKE SEEDS

Napoleon Hill once said,

"Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another."

You have a choice in the kinds of words you use.

Proverbs 18:21 states,

“Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”

When you consistently plant the vocabulary seeds of professionalism, you will reap a fruitful life and so will your company.

To quote Robert Louis Stevenson,

"Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant."

Think about how you're communicating with your people, what may be going on in their world? What can you do to build them up and to provide them comfort in rowing in the direction towards business betterment?

I encourage you to plant the biggest communication seed of all, and this would be the seed of being impeccable with your words.

In Don Miguel Ruiz’s amazing book, The Four Agreements, the first agreement is to be impeccable with your words. This means that before you speak, you choose your words carefully as they have the power to create or destroy.

Be thoughtful about what you say and how you say it. Every time you open your mouth becomes an opportunity for you to stay true to yourself and what you value.

This is why I believe that using plain simple language removes the barrier between your people and their ability, desire and determination to carry out your mission.

AUTHENTIC AND CLEAR COMMUNICATION FOSTERS CONNECTION

"Speak clearly, if you speak at all; carve every word before you let it fall."
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Was Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. onto something when it came to communication?

Back in the 1800's, he surrounded himself with the literary legends, such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Together, they left a massive imprint within the literary world of the 19th century that flows right into the present.

Why am I bringing this into this message? Because of another one his quotes...

"Language is the blood of the soul into which thoughts run and out of which they grow."

As an executive leader, the language you use, how you communicate it and how well you engage in meaningful conversations become foundational to your company's sales success.

If you desire to elevate your company to new heights, then you must hone in on developing your conversational, people and relational skills.

AUTHENTIC COMMUNICATION DRIVES BUSINESS RESULTS

“Nothing in life is more important than the ability to communicate effectively.”
Gerald R. Ford, former United States president

Authentic business communication and practices play a critical role in driving real-world results. When executive leadership prioritizes authenticity, they build trust with their people, and their clients, which ultimately contributes to business success.

Ditch the corporate buzzword soup, use authentic business communication and practices to drive your competitive edge.

Authentic communication and business practices are not only healthy but quite strategic. They create a solid foundation for building relationships with your people, fostering loyalty, and achieving sustainable success out into the marketplace.

As an executive leader, authentic communication drives tangible results such as:

  1. Trust Building:Authentic communication is deeply rooted in honesty and transparency. Trust is mission critical in establishing and maintaining relationships with your people.
  2. Enhancing Relationships: Authentic communication fuels meaningful connections. This leads to more productive collaborations with your people and with your clients.
  3. Increased Employee Engagement: Authentic communication is vital for employee engagement. When leaders communicate openly, it creates a positive and healthy environment. People are more likely to feel valued, heard, and connected to the company's mission, leading to higher levels of engagement and productivity across all levels.
Authentic communication is not just a soft skill; it's a strategic asset that drives hard dollars and results.

The power of authentic communication is evident in building trust, fostering collaboration, and achieving positive outcomes.

CLEAR, SIMPLE BUSINESS LANGUAGE DRIVES RESULTS

Language connects people. It allows us to form, build and grow relationships, whether personal or professional.

Albert Einstein once said,

"If you can’t explain something simply, you don’t understand it well.”

Using plain and simple language as an executive leader is not a sign of weakness, it's a sign of wisdom.

As an executive leader, I ask you to...

  • Ditch your ego - An important part of embracing plain language is letting go of your desire to use impressive words.
  • Keep it simple - Use familiar and easy to understand words.

In your communication, the only thing you can control is yourself, your behavior, and how you carry yourself.

Imagine how the communication with your people could turn out by speaking effectively and listening consciously. Your people will leave conversations energized, inspired and action oriented.

Authentic communication creates connection. Authentic communication creates loyalty. Authentic communication builds trust. Authentic communication drives business results. And I know that is what you want!

TimB: Thanx for the comment! I believe you with the top ten in R D for Spend to Sales ratios, but I don't R D being conducted for copiers not like Canon, Xerox, KonicaMInolta Xerox. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck then it must be a duck. Toshiba's market share over the last ten years in the US has always been at or near the bottom of the pack, thus they are cellar dwellers, bottom feeders, in the US market. You are correct with the MA, they were not asking for color, guess Im so

Re: Best Black & White MFP for 10k/month yeild. Suggestions?

·
FYI: Toshiba, overall, is in the top ten for RD Spend-to-Sales ratios. "Bottom dweller" really is not a fair use of words. With any device manufacturer, product is only as good as its dealer support. Get references if need be. RE: maintenance; The asker is talking BW devices not color. Regardless, get the maintenance. Fewer spikes in copy quality or hardware issues because you'll make that phone call to fix rather than putting up with poor copy quality, etc. for fear of how much it might cost

in total spend as of Q1 2013. While they may have a good ratio of RD to sales ratio, the volume of dollars they spend on RD on their MFD's are rather small in comparison to the top four - and it shows in the reflection of market share and acceptance on a corporate purchasing level. My point is not to brow beat or denigrate - it is simply this. Acknowledge the truth of your product and don't try to make it something it isn't or others will mostly likely know it and tag you as just a salesman

Actually, I did not mention that I am offering any equipment to them. I'm not even sure where they are located, I'm not looking to sell them, All of the recent MFP's that I've seen at the shows have pretty much the same GUI I do remember something about a more robust partnering with Toshiba/

I don't have a list, however it's my understanding that almost any laser printer can be used for MICR printing, as long as you can find a provider that sells the MICR toner cartridges. I took a quick look on Amazon and saw many generic MICR toner cartridges for Lexmark. Hope this helps

The difference in our iDaaS model is that volume DOES impact cost. Other flat rate model offer a rate with no impact on volume. Our program uses the current customer volume, service efficiency, margin expectations as well as our data on over 4 million devices to help remove the variables and concerns over switching to a no meter billing model. We can also adjust for color ratio's. So with the possible exception of print for pay, production and maybe some schools there is no reason not to

The AI Revolution in IT Departments

The AI Revolution in IT Departments

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping the landscape of information technology departments across industries. This transformative technology brings both significant benefits and formidable challenges to IT professionals. In this blog post, we delve into the multifaceted impacts of AI on IT departments.

how ai affects profit

Optimizing Operations with AI

Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing the efficiency and effectiveness of IT department operations. AI systems now increasingly manage routine tasks such as data correlation, network monitoring, and the identification of IT system malfunctions. Deloitte Insights reports that AI-driven organizations have seen an average of a 10% reduction in operational costs, a testament to AI’s role in streamlining processes.

This implementation of AI not only accelerates these processes but also reduces the chance of human error. As these automated systems handle repetitive, time-intensive tasks, IT professionals gain the freedom to direct their focus and creativity towards strategic initiatives, fostering innovation and driving the business forward.

Thanks to AI’s data-processing prowess, IT departments can handle the deluge of information with unprecedented efficiency. Predictive algorithms that can anticipate technical issues before they arise are transforming system maintenance, moving it from a reactive to a proactive stance. Such predictive maintenance not only reduces system downtime but also extends the lifespan of critical IT infrastructure. This foresight, powered by AI, ensures smoother operations and enhances the overall dependability of business technology systems, leading to improved end-user satisfaction and trust in IT capabilities.

AI’s Aid in Cybersecurity

The integration of AI into cybersecurity measures has been nothing short of a game-changer for IT departments. As cyber threats evolve in complexity and volume, traditional security measures alone no longer suffice. AI steps in as a dynamic ally, equipped with the capability to analyze patterns across vast datasets swiftly. This deep-level analysis allows for the early detection of potential threats and anomalous behavior, much before they can escalate into breaches.

The value of AI in this domain is underscored by a study from Capgemini, which highlights that over two-thirds of enterprises view AI as essential to combating cyber threats. The agility AI introduces to cybersecurity ensures that IT departments are always one step ahead in the digital arms race against cybercriminals.

AI is pivotal in scaling cybersecurity efforts as digital footprints expand exponentially. It can automate the response to detected threats, dramatically decreasing the time from discovery to resolution. AI-driven intrusion detection systems and automated security protocols actively mitigate risks, adapting in real time to emerging threats. This proactivity is indispensable because cybersecurity events can unfold rapidly, often with costly consequences. For IT departments around the globe, the employment of AI not only fortifies defense mechanisms but also instills a measure of confidence and control over their security posture.

Managing Talent and Skill Gaps

The rapid incorporation of AI within IT departments creates an unprecedented demand for a workforce fluent in AI technology. The necessity for talent that can develop, manage, and interpret these sophisticated systems is at an all-time high. A report by McKinsey & Company highlights a concerning gap, with 87% of organizations acknowledging either current skill gaps or anticipating them within the near future.

As AI evolves, the pressure mounts on IT departments to cultivate a workforce skilled in cutting-edge technologies. This involves sourcing new talent with specialized know-how and investing in the upskilling of existing staff—a process that can be time-consuming and expensive, yet crucial for staying ahead in the innovation race.

The disparity between the availability of AI professionals and the needs of the industry poses a significant challenge. The scarcity of skilled AI experts leads to a competitive market where poaching is common, and retention becomes difficult. For many IT departments, the solution involves a strategic investment in training programs and partnerships with educational institutions to develop the necessary skill sets in-house. Such initiatives are vital in closing the skill gap but also require ongoing investment to keep pace with the continuous advancements in AI technology. The onus is on IT departments to adapt to this new paradigm and become active contributors to the education and evolution of the AI workforce.

The Economic Impact of AI

Embracing AI within IT departments is having a measurable economic impact on businesses. AI technologies are known for automating complex and repetitive tasks, significantly reducing operational costs. A study by IBM revealed that implementing AI could potentially reduce IT costs by up to 30%, underscoring the financial benefits of leveraging artificial intelligence. These savings are accrued not just from labor cost reductions, but also from the increased speed and efficiency with which AI systems can perform tasks – often executing what would take humans multiple hours in a matter of minutes.

The economic advantages of AI extend beyond cost savings. By automating mundane tasks, IT professionals are liberated to tackle more strategic initiatives that can lead to additional revenue streams. The ripple effect of this shift is substantial, opening up opportunities for companies to innovate and grow. Within IT departments, the reallocation of resources made possible by AI adoption paves the way for new project development, ultimately contributing to a stronger, more competitive market position. These strategic advantages arguably equal, if not surpass, the immediate operational savings, marking AI’s profound economic influence.

Ethical Implications and AI Governance

The advent of AI in IT departments introduces a spectrum of ethical implications that need careful navigation. AI systems, by their nature, are often opaque, leading to challenges in understanding how decisions are made. This ‘black box’ dilemma necessitates IT departments to adopt a stringent governance framework to ensure transparency and fairness in AI operations.

The ethical deployment of AI becomes even more pressing when considering the potential for algorithmic bias, where AI systems may inadvertently perpetuate existing prejudices. This is highlighted by research indicating that almost 35% of businesses have experienced an AI ethics breach to some degree.

It is critical for IT departments to not only be stewards of technological efficiency but also of ethical integrity. The creation and enforcement of AI governance protocols are required to uphold accountability and prevent misuse of AI technologies. In the absence of universal standards for ethical AI use, IT departments are at the forefront of developing best practices that balance innovation with responsibility. Engaging with diverse stakeholder groups for insight and oversight assists in aligning AI initiatives with broader societal values, ensuring that as AI evolves, it does so with ethical considerations embedded in its core.

AI and the Evolution of IT Roles

AI’s permeation across IT operations fundamentally alters the roles and skill sets required within the department. As AI takes over routine and operational tasks, IT professionals need to pivot, focusing more on overseeing AI systems, understanding and interpreting data outputs, and strategizing based on AI-provided insights.

A survey by Accenture found that 74% of IT executives believe that AI will significantly change their jobs within the next three years, indicating the shift towards more strategic roles. This shift in responsibilities underscores the growing significance of cross-functional skills in areas such as AI management and data analytics, which are becoming as crucial as traditional IT skills.

In this evolving landscape, IT roles are transitioning from their traditional support stance to becoming integral contributors to business strategy and innovation. IT departments are increasingly expected to provide input that can shape product development, customer engagement strategies, and overall business direction. Therefore, IT employees must embrace lifelong learning and continuous skill development to stay relevant in their careers. As AI changes how IT departments operate, it also opens up new paths for professional growth and redefines the notion of what it means to work in IT.

In the face of rapid AI advancement, IT departments are navigating a transformative era of operational efficiency, enhanced security measures, and innovative role evolution. Despite the hurdles of talent shortages, ethical governance, and the need for perpetual upskilling, the potential for reduced costs, strategic growth, and proactive cyber defenses positions AI as a key driver of IT’s future. The journey ahead mandates a strategic, ethical, and adaptable approach—but the rewards for those IT departments that can successfully leverage AI’s power will be substantial, shaping not just their own future but the future of technology itself.
