What partnering with ARCOA looks like
Our role is to make it easy for you to bring more value to your clients. We work with you to help stretch your clients’ IT budget by reducing the total cost of ownership of their electronics. We’re experts at identifying and implementing the solutions your clients need for the end-of-use re-marketing, recovery, and recycling of their technology assets. To Art and all that have helped, this is a small token of appreciation for the p4p hotel. I was working with an IT manager for a MAJOR TV Station in my area. It became a very technical situation which stemmed from just a printer solution call. the IT Director wanted to replace printers that were runing from a black box so that a job could be parallel printed onto 6 printers. As a result of everyones input; sucess stories, and guidance, I was able to turn this into a total workflow solution. read more

Kyocera vs. Ricoh

·
For whatever it is worth, here is how I sell Kyocera and Ricoh.... In the Kyocera line, there are really only 5 Black and White machines that I personally push, those are the middle segment systems KM3035-KM4035-KM5035 and KM4530 KM5530. They all come in at much lower price point and service costs as the Ricoh 2035-2045-1055 systems and the 55 has scanning where the Ricoh does not. Ricoh still has it up to 27ppm and 60ppm on up both from functionality and service cost though. Pricing is pretty

If you want to beat an IR C3200 with the Ricoh, simply pick a sample file that has a solid blue or purple background and have them automatic duplex the prints. The Canon will leave little white specs on the second side of the print. Also, have them do a photo original off of the glass. The Canon does not have a good scan quality off of the glass. Good selling!

Bridman, What are iron on transfer sheets? I haven't run across those. It sounnds like it could be an untapped market for me. Also, to add to the conversation a little. the new 32/38 seems to outperform the canon and Xerox from multiple application standpoints. Cost, Quality, Ease of Use. I am in a small satellite office for my company and use a 338, I have been running it through its courses and it seems to work great. Also in the field, we compete everyday against the other companies B2C

I am in a competitive situation that the criteria to meet a true operating lease is a must. They are currently utilizing a 48 month lease with a 36 month out to meet this criteria. Obviouosly, accounting based on a 60 month useful life rule. However, I think I have seen a document or information stating that copiers can actually be on the books for up to seven years. Which would allow us to use a 48 month lease with no out. Any thoughts or information?

Jason, I believe there are 6 square ft. in a "D" size print. That would put the yield of the toner cartriges at 1,916 "D" prints. The developer lists for $441.47 and the yield would be 25,000 "D" prints. The wire($31.04 corona, $27.76 transfer wire) (blade $331.08)and drum are 32,500 "D" prints. A drum lists at $972.40 and are generally replaced when the developer is replaced.

. It also seems that all of Corp America is pulling in IT to help them make choices on "copier" vendors, or they are given that responsability altogether. This makes them an important target in every account we call on, and if we don't do something to be very different we will pay a heavy price. I have spoken to a great many IT people and told them what I was going to do, and why. They all agree that the certification in these diciplines won;t get me the order, but they will get me opportunities.

I'm all about saving money and creating less waste, so I was exciting to see what the hub bub was all about. Late last night I heard it was their solid ink

The CVB advisory board in April voted to recommend a 5-year lease purchase with Consolidated Printing, Salina, for a Konica-Minolta copier. Purkis said the CVB in light of a tight budget, had only included $2,000 for equipment needs. She said the current copier is over 10 years old. The current copier was originally in the police department before it was moved over to the CVB’s offices. The

If you understand the ins and outs of the product and service, you can reply easily to any queries from your potential buyers concerning your business. If you can reply to them satisfactorily, it also can build up the buyers’ trust on you as well as your reliability which is one of the most important factors to succeed in the internet business and make money on-line. I have always clashed with the sales model used for DM. Why not just let the customer pay for it with credit card directly? If a rep is responsible for the sale, then give them a percentage cut on their Ricoh card as long as the customer is paying. Paying for 3 to 5 yrs as an add-on to the equipment lease is not a very efficient model for increasing volume. Sounds more like doing hard time.

Authentic Prospecting Becomes Jet Fuel To Sales Results.

"Authenticity is more than speaking; Authenticity is also about doing. Every decision we make says something about who we are."
Simon Sinek

Authenticity isn't just about what we say, it's also about our actions.

The decisions you make are like windows into your character, revealing what truly matters to you.

When it comes to sales, what are you revealing to yourself about prospecting?

Authenticity shapes your identity, and the way others perceive you. In essence, authenticity is about aligning your words with your deeds, consistently reflecting your true self in all aspects of your life.

Authenticity, it is one of the biggest challenges for salespeople in a profession riddled with unscrupulous, fake and disingenuous sales reps.

In a post-trust sales world, authenticity separates sales professionals from sales reps. It separates the heartfelt from the empty-hearted.

I encourage all of you to set aside some alone time, grab a pen and paper, then start writing down words these words... credibility, genuine, connect, relate, relevant and real. Define each word, think about each word and become consumed with each word.

To have an ever-flowing sales funnel, you must build and ever-flowing relationship funnel.

Authentically prospecting is about building real relationships and changing the way people think.

To make this make this happen, you must understand who you are. You must understand your sales purpose and you must understand what you personally bring to the table.

Unfortunately, here lies the issue, and why I believe many in sales struggle with prospecting... They wrestle with clearly articulating the value they bring to the marketplace because they haven’t spent enough time in gaining a clear picture of their own value.

If you're your authentic self, you have no competition.

AUTHENTICITY IS A LIFESTYLE

Authenticity, it's making the conscious choice based upon accurate self-knowledge.

This means stepping outside the shallow world in which many in sales live.

Consistent, disciplined and determined prospecting is not an easy thing to do. If it was, more of you would be doing it.

Authentically prospecting is a conscious choice.

This lifestyle is not easy. It's the difference between getting by and making it happen.

Self-reflect for a moment, now ask yourself... What does it mean to me to lead an authentic prospecting lifestyle?

This is deep stuff. It's looking right into the mirror, asking tough questions and answering them.

Folks, you're in charge of your own sales career, nobody else.

TIME FOR SOME TRUTH

The Edelman Group is a global communications firm who partners with businesses and organizations to evolve, promote and protect their brands and reputations.

Annually, they publish what's known as the Edelman Trust Barometer. As you read their reports, you will soon find out we live in a world deeply rooted in trust issues.

Check out this quote from one of their past trust reports,

"People today grant their trust based on two distinct attributes: competence (delivering on promises) and ethical behavior (doing the right thing and working to improve society)."

Curious, how synonymous are the words competence and ethical used when describing salespeople?

Mirror moment time...

Are delivering on your promises?

Are you doing the right thing as you work to improve your client's business?

The prospects you're working with... How many are skeptical and have low levels of trust?

What's worse, how many of your clients are skeptical and have low levels of trust in you? Would you even know?

Carl Sagan once said,

"We wish to find the truth, no matter where it lies. But to find the truth we need imagination and skepticism both. We will not be afraid to speculate, but we will be careful to distinguish speculation from fact."

Lack of prospecting has hit critical mass for many in sales.

Spend any amount of time in sales and you will hear this... "Sales is a numbers game", "Make more calls", "Turn over some rocks", this makes my stomach turn when I hear this.

Quality and efficiency are more important than quantity.

Quality prospecting comes from the behind the scenes work to be able to deliver quantifiable results.

Sales professionals do the hard work to ensure that when they get in front of a prospect, they're truly bringing the goods.

When it comes to generating new business, what makes you and the experience you're providing, any different from the hundreds of others who are prospecting to the same people?

AUTHENTIC PROSPECTING

The heart behind prospecting is the quality. A sales professional places heart at the forefront as they truly want to make a difference in the lives of the people they interact with.

It's the stone-cold truth that everyone in sales must prospect.

Prospecting for new business... so many talk about it and measure quantity but how many truly measure quality?

How many of you are placing quality at the forefront when it comes to your prospecting?

Those who care enough about prospecting will consistently have food on their business table.

Are you going through the prospecting motions?

How many of you even know what you're prospecting for?

VALUE RESTS INSIDE OF AUTHENTIC PROSPECTING

To know thyself is to value thyself.

A sales professional waves the value flag. They weave meaningful amounts of value into their communication and into their prospecting strategies.

To authentically prospect means to truly understand your values, what your prospect values and then incorporate this into having an effective business conversation.

Authentic prospecting involves more than just pitching a product or service; it's about building genuine connections based on mutual understanding and respect.

Understanding your own values and those of your prospect allows you to tailor your approach to resonate with them on a more meaningful level.

When you align your values with theirs, you're more likely to have impactful conversations leading to successful outcomes.

Authentic prospecting enables you to present yourself honestly and confidently, which builds trust with your prospects.

SHORT TERM THINKING STUNTS LONG TERM VISION

We all want short term results when it comes to prospecting. Many of you get whacked over the head for 30 day and quarterly results but how many of you add in a long-term perspective when it comes to prospecting?

What you fail to do this quarter when it comes to prospecting will show up in your sales results in subsequent quarters.

Inconsistent sales results are directly related to inconsistent prospecting efforts.

Many in sales are consistently inconsistent when it comes to prospecting.

Many of your conversations when it comes to prospecting will not fit into a short-term window but will someday.

Authentically prospecting means to balance a short-term sales funnel with a longer-term relationship funnel. Not every opportunity will fit into the 30 day or quarterly window. Let's not ignore them but nurture them.

A true sales professional knows what it means to balance their relationship funnel alongside their sales funnel. With authenticity and a blend of caring they nurture their relationship funnel with education and insight.

“Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let out true selves be seen.”
Brene Brown

Are you being honest with yourself when it comes to diligent and authentic prospecting?

AUTHENTICALLY PROSPECTING, IT'S YOUR CHOICE

Authenticity starts when you set the intention and muster up self-fortitude to be genuine.

You must become keenly aware of what this looks and feels like, along with the willingness to act in accordance with your genuine nature.

In a world full of self-interested salespeople who look at many prospects as dollar signs, an authentic sales professional stands out like a shining star.

An authentic sales professional prospects with the mindset of a sales servant.

They've developed a how can I help mindset. They have a true burning and genuine desire to lend a helping hand.

The time is now to get real and honest with yourself. Take off the mask and adjust your mindset that's hindering you from prospecting. The barrier it's creating will not last forever.

Be the real you, not a prospecting imposter.

Authentic prospecting... the jet fuel to your sales sustainability and long-term success.

With over 30 years of experience in sales and sales management, Gretchen is passionate about helping sales leaders transform their roles and find happiness in their work. She is known for her practical advice and expertise in overcoming common sales management challenges.

SHOW SUMMARY

In this episode, we interview Gretchen Gordon, author of "The Happy Sales Manager." Gretchen shares her insights on how sales managers can find happiness and success in their roles. She emphasizes the importance of adopting a different mindset as a sales manager and focusing on the success of the team rather than individual achievements. Gretchen also discusses the challenges sales leaders face and provides practical advice for overcoming them. Listeners will gain valuable insights into effective sales management and learn how to build a high-performing and happy sales team.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Sales managers need to adopt a different mindset than that of a salesperson. They should focus on coaching, motivating, and inspiring their team members rather than trying to replicate their own success.

It is important for sales managers to recognize that not everyone on their team will be like them. Each salesperson has their own unique strengths and weaknesses, and it is the manager's role to understand and support them individually.

Sales managers should resist the temptation to rescue their team members and instead focus on preparing them for success. By practicing and role-playing different scenarios, managers can build their team's confidence and enable them to handle sales calls effectively.

Sales managers need to be willing to change and grow in their role. They should constantly assess their own strengths and weaknesses and be open to learning new strategies and approaches to sales management.

Building trust and effective communication are key to successful sales management. Sales managers should create an environment where team members feel comfortable sharing their challenges and seeking guidance.

Competitively, we end up single-clicking more often than not. Basically Print Shops have all become privy to this now and for the most part they expect it...not much we can do if we want the business.

Art: Not sure if this would help but there is a setting in the ABBYY componenet for allow pass through. This should allow the original file to pass through. I'm not sure if this would happen before the OCR process or after. If it happened before, the final product could be appended to differentiate the OCR'd document or directed to a different location.

Re: Print Production Pricing

·
I'd like to bring this back...I think a lot of this topic has to do with how specialized the Commercial Printer is. Is this a Printer that offers something unique, or just wants to get the best price on their Digital machine to compete with someone who might still be using offset? I would say the majority of my Commercial Printers want the same thing, good image quality, accurate registration, and responsive support. Does that warrant a discount, no, but in the big picture, we're not providing

We are Konica and Xerox..KM by far is the superior product until you get to Production in which case we are pretty 50-50. Xerox, at least for us, offers some price advantage, especially in the entry-level to mid-range. Also, we are no longer the exclusive dealer of either as Xerox Agents are popping up everywhere.

What Gets Recycled in My Electronic Devices?

Posted By Arcoa

Cell phones, tablets, and laptops are integral parts of our lives yet have a finite lifespan. When they reach the end of their usefulness, it falls on each of us to consider their environmental impact and pave the way to a sustainable future. Recycling these devices is not only a responsible choice but also a crucial step towards reducing electronic waste. There are specific components to these gadgets that can be broken down, recycled, and repurposed for future devices.

The Anatomy of Electronic Devices

Before we dive into the recycling process and what it entails, let’s break down the key components of cell phones, tablets, and laptops.

Batteries: The heart of any mobile device, lithium-ion batteries are the most essential component to cell phones, tablets, and laptops. They contain valuable materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel.

Screens: A device’s display screen often contains glass and other materials that can be recycled. For example, there are three parts of a cell phone screen—the glass, LED, and digitizer—which can be replaced or reused.

Circuit Boards: Cell phones, tablets, and laptops house intricate circuitry on their boards, composed of metals that are both ferrous (containing iron) and non-ferrous (not containing iron) such as copper, gold, silver, steel, and aluminum. Tablets contain more extensive circuitry than cell phones, and laptops have the most complex circuit boards of them all.

Plastics: The outer casing of many cell phones, tablets, or laptops is typically made of plastic, which is recyclable.

Rare Earth Metals: Small quantities of rare earth metals are used in various components like device speakers, screens, magnets, phone or tablet vibration motors, and laptop hard drives.

Now that we understand what’s inside our electronic devices, let’s explore how these components are recycled and repurposed.

The Recycling Process for Electronic Devices

Recycling electronic devices involves a multi-step process designed to recover and reuse valuable materials while minimizing environmental impact. The typical steps are as follows:

Collection: Devices are first collected from various sources, including consumers, businesses, and electronics manufacturers. Recycling centers, as well as some electronic retailers, offer collection services.

Sorting and Dismantling: At recycling facilities, the devices are disassembled into their various components. This includes removing batteries, screens, circuit boards, and plastics. The components are sorted based on material type and can be diverted for reuse.

Shredding: Some devices may go through a shredding process to break them down into smaller pieces. This helps to further separate the materials.

Material Recovery: After dismantling and shredding, valuable materials such as metals (gold, silver, copper, and rare earth elements), glass, and plastics are recovered through various techniques. These materials are then prepared for reuse, and the high-quality outputs are turned into raw materials for manufacturing.

Safe Disposal: Components that can’t be recycled, such as hazardous materials, are disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner to prevent contamination.

How Recycling Repurposes—and Preserves—Our Resources

Recycling electronic devices not only conserves valuable resources but also reduces the environmental impact of electronic waste. The recycled materials from our old devices are repurposed for future devices and other applications.

Metals: The metals recovered from electronic devices, including gold, silver, copper, and rare earth elements, are used in the manufacturing of new electronic components. These materials are highly sought after in the electronics industry due to their superior conductivity and durability.

Plastics: Recycled plastic from old devices can be used in the production of new casings and components, reducing the demand for new plastic materials and, subsequently, the carbon footprint associated with plastic production.

Glass: The glass from old screens can be melted down and used to make new screens or glass components for other devices.

Batteries: The lithium-ion batteries from old devices can be reconditioned and reused in less demanding applications, such as backup power systems or energy storage solutions.

Rare Earth Elements: The recovery of rare earth elements, although relatively small in quantity, is crucial, as these elements are essential for various high-tech applications. They can be reintegrated into the production of new devices.

Circuit Boards: Recovered circuit boards may be refurbished and used in various electronics, or the metals within them can be extracted and recycled.

By reusing these materials, manufacturers can reduce the need for extracting and processing virgin resources, which conserves energy and reduces the environmental impact associated with mining and manufacturing. This not only makes economic sense but also contributes to a more sustainable and environmentally responsible electronics industry.

The Global Impact of Electronics Recycling

Recycling electronic devices has global significance. Electronic waste, or e-waste, is a growing concern due to the rapid pace of technological advancement and the increasing use of electronic devices worldwide. E-waste often contains hazardous materials that can harm both human health and the environment. Therefore, the responsible disposal and recycling of electronic devices is vital.

In addition to reducing the demand for raw materials, recycling lessens the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing new devices, as it consumes less energy and resources compared to creating new materials from scratch.

The Role of Consumers

As consumers, we play a crucial role in the electronics recycling process. There are several steps we should all take to contribute to a more sustainable electronic ecosystem:

Responsible Disposal: When you no longer need a device, don’t throw it in the trash. Instead, find a certified electronics recycling center or drop-off location.

Erase Personal Data: Before recycling your device, ensure that you’ve wiped all personal data from it or work with a recycler, like ARCOA, that is certified AAA by the National Association of Information Destruction (NAID). This helps protect your privacy.

Upcycling: Consider repurposing your old devices for other uses, such as converting a tablet into a digital photo frame or using an old laptop as a media server.

Support Eco-Friendly Manufacturers: When purchasing new devices, consider companies that prioritize eco-friendly and recyclable materials in their products.

Ready to Recycle? ARCOA Can Help

Understanding what gets recycled in our devices is a crucial step towards promoting responsible e-waste management. As consumers, we have the power to make eco-conscious choices, support recycling initiatives, and contribute to a more sustainable electronic ecosystem. In doing so, we can play a significant role in preserving our planet for future generations.
