Real Copier Sales
Interesting topic came up today while I was out knocking on doors again! Most of us (salespeople) have monthly quotas. For those of us that care, we take pride in striving to meet those monthly and quarterly goals. When we don't hit those quota's we start thinking about what went wrong, did we not prospect enough, was there not enough in the funnel. Most of us do have a sinking feeling when we don't hit our quotas. read more here

Attention Sales World... Are You Downright Irreplaceable? Would You Even Know?
"If you don't make yourself irreplaceable, somebody will replace you. Being different is being remembered. Being the same is being forgotten."
Holly Smale
The sales world is full of mediocrity as unfortunately many are swimming or should I say drowning in the sea of sameness.
Are you being remembered or are you being forgotten?
As we kick off our time together, I must ask... How hard would it be for one of your clients to replace you with an alternative provider?
Simmer on that question for a moment. Because it contains a massively powerful lesson.
Imagine being so utterly valuable to your clients that they send competitors away, uninterested in hearing about their lower prices, better deals or pearls of wisdom.
I must ask you...
What are you doing to become downright irreplaceable?
One makes themselves irreplaceable by building trust. They’ve earned that trust by doing phenomenal work over the long haul. They've earned trust by being extremely reliable, someone their clients can count on, and most of all, they are heart centered.
I believe you earn and re-earn being irreplaceable. Yes, you heard me correctly. You re-earn it. If you earn trust and then lackadaisically assume you’re permanently irreplaceable, you’ll soon be replaced by someone who out maneuvers you.
Taking a casual approach to your clients causes client casualties.
Therefore, every interaction with your clients should be viewed as an opportunity to increase your value and status.
IRREPLACEABLE
As we continue this journey together, you become irreplaceable by getting to the heart of what matters with your clients.
You become irreplaceable by getting crystal clear on your client's vision. You make this a commitment. You do this so you can get out in front of them and be ready when they get there.
This Coco Chanel quote is spot on,
"In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different."
In today's sales world where there is more competition, more options, and even more distractions, the question for all of you... How do you continue to maintain your clients’ attention?
I believe you do this by building authentic relationships, bringing meaningful value, and becoming 100% irreplaceable.
WAYS TO BECOME IRREPLACEABLE
To become irreplaceable, you must understand how your clients' business makes money, and then figure out how you can connect the dots and deliver them results.
This all starts with understanding them better.
The best way to understand your clients better is to ask them deep and meaningful questions, then close your mouth and let them talk. Intentionally listen to their responses.
What they share with you becomes your pot of gold.
This allows you to serve them better.
I believe when you create the mindset of serving your clients, then you’ll always have their best interests at heart.
Your client relationships aren’t about a mere transaction. It's about serving, helping, and creating business betterment for them.
To serve is to care, to care is to give a rip.
Giving a rip means you care enough about the relationship to become your client's library of knowledge.
You establish this by creating resources that your clients will value. You become their educator, their teacher, and their go-to when it comes to learning new things.
One huge way you can serve your clients is to stretch their thinking. Help them consider new opportunities that they haven't thought of before.
This means becoming their guide. This means supporting them. And this means serving them at the highest of levels, so they not only see your value, but also their own.
ARE YOU BECOMING IRREPLACEABLE?
The more you know about your clients, the more you grow with your clients.
Business author Roger Von Oech said,
“Things are changing quickly. What worked last week may not be the best way to solve today’s problems or the best way to take advantage of next week’s opportunities. The more we know, the more opportunities we can create."
Focus in on the last sentence for a moment, as I put a bit of a sales twist on it.
The more you know about your clients and their business, the more opportunities you can create for them. The more opportunities you create for them, the more you become irreplaceable.
To know your clients is to grow with your clients.
Helping your clients grow is mission critical to building long-term, mutually beneficial relationships.
When your clients trust that they can rely on you for business growth strategies, they are more likely to invest more with you, give you a larger piece of their business and refer other organizations to you.
Building your client’s business leads to building your business.
Sales professionals intimately know their clients' business. They understand the competitive environment they operate within. They develop powerful strategies along with solutions to help them look forward so they can anticipate and prepare for new business challenges and opportunities.
They are relationship connectors. They go the extra mile by making connections for their clients with other individuals or groups within their network that could be helpful to them.
They do all this because they care.
This is how sales professionals become irreplaceable.
BECOME ENTRENCHED IN YOUR CLIENT'S BUSINESS
How many of you right now are woven into the fabric of your client's business?
Please think about what I just asked you. Deeply stew on it. Curious as to what you're thinking about right now?
Sales professionals become entrenched in their client's business by opening up the business hood.
They gain a deep understanding of what their clients are talking about, and they share their perspectives.
They ask them thought provoking questions encouraging them to investigate the good, the bad and the ugly within their company.
- What is their unique corporate value statement?
- What kinds of headaches are their competitors dishing out?
- What are their client's coming to them to answer?
- What do you see as potential roadblocks to your growth over the next 6 months?
Sales professionals listen, learn and ask deep impactful questions to obtain institutional client knowledge.
Are you a proactive sales professional or a reactive sales rep?
Aristotle famously wrote,
"The more you know, the more you realize you don't know."
Now, think about this statement for a moment...
Who is gathering more internal information about your clients, you or one of your competitors? Would you even know? And worse, would someone even tell you?
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER IN BECOMING IRREPLACEABLE
How can you apply institutional client knowledge to build, grow and enhance your client relationships?
How can you become an integral part of your client's business?
How can you become irreplaceable?
How can you not be viewed as a commodity?
In conclusion, are you willing to take massive action to avoid being viewed as a commodity and start being viewed as being irreplaceable?
Welcome to the Selling From the Heart podcast. This week we welcome Oakland McCulloch, a retired lieutenant colonel and the author of Your Leadership Legacy. Taking from 40 years of leadership, Oakland zeroes in on taking care of people as the number one priority of every organization.
He emphasizes that a culture of trust starts with servant leadership, and you can start this by bridging the professional and personal gap to forge trust with your team. Oakland also points out that leadership development does not happen by accident and how self-discipline is one of the biggest characteristics of leaders.
HIGHLIGHT QUOTES
Everything cascades from taking care of your people - Oakland: "People will always tell me when I tell them about it's not about you, and they say well, Oak, I really want my next promotion and I want my next pay raise."
"And I said, you're going to get it. If you take care of people, they are better, which then makes your organization better, which then makes you better, which means you're going to get your promotion."
Developing new leaders has a twofold benefit - Oakland: "Leadership development doesn't happen by accident. You have to develop a plan in your organization that is developing that next generation of leaders. And here's what I tell people, you get two benefits."
"Not only are you getting better leaders, which then again gives you a better company and more profit if that's the bottomline that you're really looking for, but you also give people in your organization the ability to move up, which then helps their motivation."

Real Copier Sales (Tag Team Prospecting)
All of this leads me to a few moments I had with a former rep in our office a few days ago. That rep had stopped in for a visit and caught me for a few minutes before I was going out for appointments. We spoke about the cool things in life for few minutes, and I then asked to tell me more about what he sells. As he got more into depth I saw that we could share many accounts. In fact there seemed to many existing accounts that we could share with each other. more here

Remote Work Still Preferred – How Print Services Help Offices
When the pandemic hit in 2020, global governments implemented extreme lockdowns. As a result, businesses that weren’t considered “essential” were forced to find new ways to do business. And a large part of that was moving employees to remote workspaces wherever possible.
Both businesses and employees reaped the rewards from this maneuver. Perhaps the most important benefit was that companies were able to stay open despite mandates. As such, employees were able to ditch their daily commutes, spend more time with their families, and generally avoid exposure to COVID, flu, and other common illnesses found around schools and offices.
But now that COVID-19 is not a big concern, some employers are starting to change their tune about remote work. Unfortunately, hybrid and remote jobs have dominated listings for the past two years,. Employees have begun to accept that the new workplace norm includes allowing employees more flexibility over time and place of employment.
The contrast between what business leaders want and employee expectations are increasingly stark. For example, recent polls show around 50% of company leaders want their staff back in the office full-time. Yet over 52% of workers have plans to switch to hybrid or fully remote positions. Even more, telling is the number of employees that would actively choose to be in an office forty hours per week – 12%.
But, as the job market continues to favor the worker (at an average of 1.7 positions open for every person looking), employers may want to step back on their demands for in-person appearances at the office. Fortunately, the right printing programs can help any office be a more flexible workspace – providing better options to attract and retain employees, no matter the office format.
Why Aren’t More People Willing To Work On-Site?
The ratio of occupied space to the total available space is known as an occupancy rate. Compared to the pre-pandemic era, office occupancy in the top 10 metros is now over 50%. Yet, many US businesses, including Vanguard, Paycom, Amazon, Salesforce, and Google, are pushing employees to return to the office at least three days a week. Some have begun taking attendance and threatening to fire for those who don’t comply.
But most (75%) of US businesses are still using hybrid work models or are planning to move to that model soon. So despite the end of the government pandemic response and the proliferation of vaccines, experts don’t anticipate office occupancy to get much higher than it is right now.
But why are workers seeming more inclined to the hybrid office than a full return? COVID had a lot to do with that.
During lockdowns and in the years after, when hybrid and remote work continued to be the norm, many workers took the opportunity to move – seeking out locations that had more affordable living and better education or communities for their families. But even those that stuck closer to the office saw added benefits such as:
- More freedom to choose a working model that fits their needs to increase productivity.
- Better work-life balance as employees and their families feel they are home and more and more attuned to what is happening there.
- Spending less on childcare such as before and after school programs.
- Reducing or eliminating the daily commute lets employees spend less on fuel, vehicle maintenance, or public transportation fees. In many municipalities, it also saves a notable amount of time.
It is hardly surprising to discover that most employees don’t want to go back to the office. A Gallup survey in August of last year found that 34% of respondents chose to work remotely full-time, while 60% preferred a hybrid setup Only 6% of respondents indicated they would like to work in the office full-time.
Meeting the Needs of Business and Workers
Acknowledging this new trend toward remote and hybrid work, over half of US jobs that can be performed remotely were officially hybrid as of November 2022. And they are reaping the rewards.
Recent research has shown working from home boosts productivity by thirteen percent. This performance improvement came from more calls being made per minute due to a more comfortable and quiet working environment and by working longer shifts with fewer sick days and breaks.
But what does that mean for printing, something many businesses have struggled to modify to fit the remote workforce? First, printing is a crucial activity for workers, no matter where they are.
Businesses looking to provide real flexibility for their employees can look at leveraging the power of Managed Print Services (MPS) partners. These businesses can provide a wide range of options that fit fully remote, hybrid, and in-person offices.
Even workers with print-heavy jobs have found the flexibility MPS provides an easy way to maintain productivity no matter their office set-up. Mobile printing setuptivity, small-footprint printers, multi-address supply delivery, and service to any location make office printing easy for any office format.
Keep Workers Happy With Flexible Office Printing
Remote employment is here to stay. But, according to a recent survey of more than 1,100 US business executives, only a small fraction of CEOs consider moving workers to a physical office a priority in 2023.
Over ninety-five percent of job postings today are considered flexible, allowing the best candidates to work remotely, hybrid, or entirely on-site potentially. And employers see the option as necessary to tap into talent pools that would otherwise be out of reach.
Office printing partners are the best choice for business in this flexible office environment. These businesses have built options, technology, and service structures designed to fit a variety of office configurations and needs. In addition, most MPS partners include must-have features for any US company, including printer security, print tracking, ongoing remote print software updates, and robust reporting.
With most employees preferring more flexible work options, businesses need the technology and capabilities to accommodate remote, hybrid, and on-site workforces. Fortunately, thanks to managed print services, companies can provide their employees with adequate and reliable printing equipment and solutions.

My Sales Month Just Ended, What about Yours?
I thought this would be a great reminder about how many selling days are available each month.
Since my month ended today I've already calculated that I have 21 selling days for the month of May. May is a most generous month with no Holidays since I'll end my month on the 23rd.
Thus a little more than four weeks to continue the grind and do the planning.
A great sales person always has a plan. The start of each month kinda goes like this for me.
- See how many selling days are in the month, subtract holidays, PTO, and or vacation days. You'll now have a good idea of how many days are available to get what you want
- I'm an old dog, and I'm sure there's an app for this but I prefer to write down (yes it's in my CRM as well) the clients in my 60 day funnel. I'll also include comments for net new, revenue, percentage of closing, type of device and GP. We always want to see our potential GP for each device because this allows me to focus on where I can take from Peter to pay Paul.
- I'll make check marks next to each client when I contact them. The average use to be 7 contacts, but it's more like 10 in recent years.
- Yes, yes I know I have a CRM but I'm fraking old! I make another list of "things to do". It's the list that never ends, however it's the list that continues to reap rewards. No one and I repeat no one can remember everything that needs to be done when you have a book of accounts. If you don't have a book of accounts then get use to keeping one because your "to do list" will make you and model of efficiency. Clients love nothing more than your prompt response when a need or question is posed.
- Yes, I still have an appointment book, but my appointment book is what brings everything together with "to do's", "pipeline", "counting revenue", and counting "GP".
What I love most about the process that I use is that I get a charge out of crossing/completing items on my lists. I guess that's why I still do what I do because I still enjoy the RUSH of it all.
