This Week in the Copier/Office Equipment Industry 10 Years Ago 2nd Week of December 2005

Before posting this, I was on LinkedIn for a few moments to check my account.  I noticed that I've been a LinkedIn user for 10 years come December 27th of this month!  Time really does fly by.  LinkedIn was launched in 2003, thus I guess I'm one of the early adopters. Will be interesting to see what LinkedIn looks like twenty years from now.  Here's a cool web page about the growth of LinkedIn.

If you work for an authorized Ricoh dealer, then it should be no problem getting an ID. I am a systems engineer and they gave me a tech ID without ever having to go to a class. If you have been to a Ricoh class, then they will certainly give you an ID.

Re: DWF & DXF Printing

The KIP 3000 and all new KIPs will have powerprint 6.0 software which allows for batch printing of DWF files. I sell both the KIP and Ricoh wide format products so I can help out with questions regarding KIP.

files (because they have very outdated PCs and a slow internet connection). I've spoken to Ratio Engineers about this and they confirm that the file sizes are what they would expect. There is no fix currently being planned. On the 480 with the "Ricoh Scanning" option this should be bypassed since the Ricoh controller will be doing the compression and not the Plotbase software.

Thanks for the response. Interesting what you said about the 480W Ricoh Scanning option, have you confirmed this? I would not have thought that they would be different - but if so, that's a good thing.

the 480 embedded scsanner option is the same scan as the Ricoh small format systems "GW Architecture". Can scan to TIFF or PDF - not sure what compression level, does anybody know what it is on the small formats?

Hi Jim I'm trying on a AF3025. It works fine with MS Word, but not from Excel. My customer has a Toshiba e-Studio 45 and it works fine with a pcl 6 driver.

The Ricoh's use G4 compression on both TIFF and PDF, the files sizes are almost identical. A 51k TIFF file was a 52k PDF.
