This Week in the Copier Industry Ten Years Ago

Last Week of July 2011

There wont be much typing on this one since I had an accident while do maintenance in my yard.  Seem that good ole trimmer decided to take the tip of my finger off.

Enjoy these great copier threads from 10 years ago this week!

will prove to be interesting where companies like Canon, Ricoh, and Konica Minolta will migrate thier services. We've already seen where Xerox is going. Copier companies that dable in copiers such as Toshiba, Sharp and Kyocera may get out of the industry all together. But I'm thinking Toshiba and Sharp can play a bigger role in this whole "business tablet" services comes to fruition.

We all understand that page volumes are dropping due to the use of scan2email, scan2folder, and LAN fax along with software applications that will allow for markups, notes, and the ability to merge documents from different software applications and create one document. We also understand that there is no growth of the printed page, there's growth for manufacturers to capture additional printed

New Sharp End of lease HDD feature

·
For additional security, Sharp is introducing an “End of Lease” option that deletes all data on a leased machine before it is returned. Data that resides on copiers that have been re-sold after lease has been identified as a major privacy and security threat. Does this mean a Sharp Service tech enters a lease end date and the copier auto formats the HDD at that time?

GIS sure is expanding fast, so I can see where these rumors come from, but I dont see GIS becoming Xerox's only MFP sales arm. GIS is too independent and does not have the international coverage to support Xerox's international clients. Xerox will continue to sell MFPs directly to the largest companies, but it will be a "solutions-led" sales strategy. They will continue to sell production directly too. I could see Xerox relinquish mid-market accounts to the channel and/or agents. The margin on

Xerox turned down some workers' buyout applications

Some Xerox employees in Wilsonville who sought a company buyout last month were apparently turned down and forced to choose between leaving their jobs without severance or going to work for an Indian contractor. In June, Xerox outsourced 600 jobs companywide -- including 120 in Wilsonville -- to HCL Technologies. Some workers didn't want to go, and Xerox said it had offered employees a buyout as an alternative to a transfer to HCL. Wilsonville employees subject to the transfer say that at least

Re: Green not printing correctly on Ricoh MPC4500

John, There is a simple test to figure out if it is the MFD or the Print driver. Put an original on the glass and make a copy of an original that has the correct color green. If it copies OK the copier is OK, and you need to focus on the print controller or print driver. If it copies and the green is bad on the copy then focus on the Copier. If the copier is off on the color you won't get it right on the driver. You need a break fix tech to adjust or fix the copier. as a side note remember that

Could it be that he will soon replace Ed McLaughlin when he leaves SHARP? Or, perhaps Ricoh will tap this executive to save their Dealer channel. Unless there is some type of scandal, such as the one that led to the demise of Mark Hurd at HP, then Michael may have left on his own accord. Where will he wind up becomes the question.

Re: Xerox marketing FREE 120PPM Copiers

This method of procurement has been standard in our country for quite some time. Here all the major copier manufacturers deal direct and have substantial finance books to play around with. We see this on almost 100% of 20+ device deals and sometimes filtering down to single 25ppm colour devices. What we have learnt is they recover as much as they can during that term and then offset any potential losses by re-signing them either at the same customer or shifting them down to small business deals

Re: Xerox marketing FREE 120PPM Copiers

Given how cheap hardware is from the brokers this could easily be profitable for even the independants. Especially if you are taking a machine you previously leased and made good money on in the first go around. Why not get it back in the field and make service revenue and build a relationship with a new client. Got to admit though this is just making it harder for the guy working based on hardware sales commissions. The dealership can be profitable doing this though.

Is there a charge or fee built into the lease? How will the data be erased? Will it at least meet the DOD standard? Most specs like HIPPA & The Mass Privacy laws reference a government standard Like the DOD (Dept. of Defense) standard. While this will NOT satisfy your most security conscience customers it is at least defensible in court that you did what the DOD recommends to meet your due diligence requirement. If all that Sharp is doing is a format, that data can be recovered by someone with
