This Week in the Copier Industry Ten Years Ago
First Week of March 2012
It's hard to fathom that in 9 months I'll be able to post 20 solid years of what's happened in our industry. Press releases are a dime a dozen, but it's the conversations and the content that keeps us engaged. Why? Because we are still learning after all these years.

Ricoh urges businesses to intergrate mobile printing

By David Richardson Ricoh Europe has urged European businesses to more closely integrate mobile printing strategies into their overall mobility plans. The advice follows a recent study by Quocirca which shows that almost 60% of businesses agree that employees would like to print from mobile devices, yet just 5% of organisations have the facility available. Research by the Economist Intelligence Unit, sponsored by Ricoh, which included senior Irish executives, also reported that the workplace

Could Epson finally be ready to join the managed print services party? Most of the other big printer companies have already been there for quite some time – HP, Lexmark and Xerox to name a few that have enjoyed considerable success. Konica Minolta launched its own managed print service in January after acquiring the large and acquisitive managed services provider (MSP) All Covered. So where does Epson fit in? Epson has been slow to embrace this path and showed no interest in it as 2011 began

In the case of being a successful production print sales person there's no separation between a consultative approach, industry (including product)knowledge and being a subject matter expert. It's not a small task and should be reserved for someone who truly enjoys the production print arena. Fortunately

I agree totally with the previous post. I recently went on an appt. with someone who is specifically trained on the production units by Ricoh. Any of us who have been selling Ricoh or Savin for a number of years, knows how to point out the features and benefits of any of our devices. The success of this appt, was based on relating to the pains of a commercial printer. This person knew what buzz words to use, and what buttons to push. Due to aggressive intro promos, the copier crooks in my territory are already promoting the product in hopes of big commission cheques. The crooks often cannot get any other new A3 product line

A single user license costs $99.00 and there is a 30 day free trial. I am not sure why MFP dealers would be trying to promote printing less pages thereby reducing their click revenues while increasing the % Toner coverage on each printed page. I see value in the product and like how it reformats documents before you print them. You could definitely save on your paper costs. It does take up to an extra two minutes per print job to figure how you want to use the software. Toner Save would not be

Your teaser headline made me think that Ricoh Canada had sold all of its branches. Not quite the case, just Sasquatch. It reflects the realities of a direct channel - very high infrastructure and management costs, along with the recognition that the mfrs need to focus on the opportunities where they have an advantage, in particular where they are large geographic or global entities. By using the dealers to focus on the SMB market, the costs to support that channel are much less. I can see Ricoh

One thing to think of is Regina where this happened is the provincial capital of Saskatchewan which is currently the strongest economic province in Canada (due to resources being super strong right now) so Ricoh is not going to be doing provincial government, health care etc. direct anymore in this province. That is a significant move and really does show that their direct model cannot cut it in the smaller markets.. They are not corporately dealer friendly so it will be interesting to see

Existing account. Been working on a huge deal with them for over a year to upgrade from plain old copiers that are 8 years old to full blown MFPs. Finance comittee kept putting it off. They finally called last month ready to move forward but doing it in stages instead of doing it all at once. I've delivered and installed 10 units in the past week. The next phase will happen early this summer. My biggest deal in almost 4 years.
