Ah, seems just a little to late to market here. Ricoh may have quite the loser on it hands when compared to the new Canon 1700 series. The key for the Canon low TCO is seperate Drum and toner. NO AIO (All in One) cartridge. I've been saying it for years and finally Canon is in the verge of A4 dominance in the market.

Are they being released late compared to Canon's 1700 series, yes, since they're not supposed to be available in the U.S. until December, but I don't think they're destined for failure. I think Ricoh waited so long to release an A4 system like this for the fear of what it will do to the A3 business. I know my Sr. Management is concerened that reps will start selling A4 systems to replace existing A3 systems and drive revenue down. The perfect spot as everyone has pointed out is in the MPS world. This product will do well to knowck out the HP, Lexmarks, etc... I wish we had it sooner.

The technology was recently purchased by Nuance, the same people who own eCopy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7774XQoRv8 I have been using it on my Toshiba tablet for about a month. Very easy to learn. If one day Swype is available for Linux, I think it will point the way forward for MFPs and perhaps reverse the trend for tactile keyboards on copiers.

MPS Billing Question
GIntel ·
Hey Guys, I have a quick question regarding the most common billing methods for MPS fleets. In general, are all MPS contracts billed with metered clicks for all managed products or are some models' supplies still billed on a per-cartridge basis? For example, if you take over a bunch of HP Laserjets, do you usually bill them per-page like you would for a copier? If so, what percentage of MPS deals are billed like this? Do you maintain separate Metered CPCs for printer-based and copier-based

Unfair practice of providing startup supplies on state and federal contracts
John ·
I have a gripe that I wanted to share with everyone on the hotel. If you sell on any state or federal contracts and you are an independent dealer then you know you must provide the start-up supplies for any of these units you sell minus the printers. Here is a major problem and unfair practice in my opinion. Most of the MFP's have a cost to the dealer for start-up supplies of a couple hundred dollars. However, the MPC6501,7501 units have a start-up cost of $1,400-$1,500. Since the dealer has to

It is interesting. Based on the figures they provided, their cost per page is ~2 cents. I find this hard to believe. Either a large amount of the 200k prints is done on a very efficient device or they are printing pages with very low coverage. They have more 1102w's than any other device. at 5% coverage, that device costs $0.0425 just for toner. I'm doubtful the total expense can be half that.

I think the product will be a hit!!!! Think of how many customers you have that love the scanning capabilities of their full sized Ricoh MFPs. Wouldn't they love to have a compact unit with the same functionallity and the same color touchscreen? How many medical offices would love to have a tabletop MFP with the scanning capabilities of Ricoh's large MFPs??? The key will be the price. If Ricoh prices it too high it will flop.

Re: MPS Billing Question
Printfun ·
As you have already speculated, there are many different ways to charge for MPS. Our most common is CPC(includes consumables, maintenance kits, service and helpdesk) with a minimum based on projected volumes determined by a print assessment. We also do deals that are not CPC, but the customer pays per cartridge for toner, and everything else is covered under a base charge per machine. Again, you must understand their volume for it to be profitable. I have seen some pretty convoluted billing
