July 28, 2014 A little over 3 years a go we lost an account to a Global (Xerox) Branch selling Konica Minolta. It was a school that by all accounts they said that we were doing a good job supporting the equipment, and that our Canon equipment had run well. I think part of the problem was they asked us to include in the bid a price for a Document Management system with an AP Workflow. Our price was about $10K higher than the Global quote. Which I think pissed them off and made them think we were

They don't need to replaced. They are great boxes but need to be made current by making them compatible with new features like OCR & Smart Operations Panel. Update them using firmware. Imagine how much more money Ricoh could make if they only updated monochrome systems half as often (no need to manufacture a new design) but provided new features via firmware update & potential add-ons. Color is presently a different story since the quality keeps improving but not for long.

They won't just update it; I'm just stating my opinion. I predict the next version will feature a single-pass feeder and the additional features. The day may come when a manufacturer only offers color systems, but I hope Ricoh isn't the first one. Whoever that is will lose a lot for several years due to customer resistance unless there are multiple billing tiers in which low coverage is billed at the same rate as mono & higher coverage rates can be completely disabled to overcome objections

Hello Art, Your problem in the start sounds a lot like Buridan’s ass. When faced with options that are too similar many people may decide not to decide at all and starve... And research suggests that if they do decide they may be less satisfied than if they had not seen the competing offers. Dropping all the technical details and focusing on sector expertise is a great idea. Have you pitched this to any of your customers yet?

I can't say that I agree that scan to email or folder are dying in my experience. Scanning to Office 365 should only require a special connector configuration in the hub transport layer. Like traditional scan to email or folder the first time is difficult and it doesn't seem like it's worth the effort but in time it should become more simple. "Scan to Cloud" seems to be a vague term as most people who are looking for a solution like this may be referring to scanning to their application...
