Ricoh MPC 6000 "Color Print Control"

How do you mean control it? You want to use user codes? You want to prevent color copies without codes but leave BW free?

Art, there are ways to rollout just black only drivers. Nothing out of the box that controls color

FWIW:
Printer Bit Switch #8 Bit 3- PCL/PS allow BW jobs to print without requiring User Code. 1= Enable (note its not for RPCS)

admim wants color to be available for them to print and turn off color from every other PC.

They had defaulted the drivers to black, however users changed them back to color.

install the driver on the server and set to BW, the user wont be able to change it.

I do not think that is correct. I may be wrong. I just did an installation with 6 MPC3300SPF and 1 MPC6501SPF. Installed on server to default black. End users can still choose color.

so, who is correct? I read a few things and it seems I may also have to put a vm card in the system, can anyone confirm?

Maybe I'm missing something here, but in this scenario, we usually turn on user codes only for color and then set up one code and give that to the admin.

Users can copy and print in B&W all day with no codes, but cannot copy/print in color without the code.

No sure what you mean by WIM. We set the codes at the copier, then no color prints are allowed without a valid code.

Jason is correct, but you can also default to b/w on the server then remove users from the "manage printers" group and they can no longer make changes, or create two printer shares one with color access but only allow certain people to have access and the other just b/w.

If you do that, wouldn't it remove their ability to make other changes in the driver as well? Such as Duplexing and Stapling?

I agree with IT Dude, you could simply load a "MP6000" driver which doesn't have the color printing option.

Some enterprising person could always download their own MPC6000 driver and print directly to the printer, bypassing all of your restrictions.

The only solution that keeps that from happening is User Codes.
